SHARED EARBUDS ; vicky schmidt

REQUESTED? yes! byย

WARNINGS ; cursing! and probably spoilers for monster camp, i'm unsure djsvdjwhs . also, blood mentions in this one!

Camp Spooky was blanketed by the light and warmth of the sun, emitting a pleasant ambience as it's campers scattered around to do daily activities to pass the time that stretched their days of summer. It was the evening, you had strayed away from the campgrounds to have peace of mind. You loved the shenanigans you found yourself experiencing but for now, you only desired the quaintness of solitude.

You leaned against the oak trunk of the tree, it's tall branches spiralling to the sky as shades of basil covered you from the sun. You would've been laying happily in the less shaded areas of the clearing you found yourself located in, being a vampire was always spectacular though. The sun was limited to you and if you were courageous to walk into its light, it required you to think big. By that, it meant that you apply a ridiculous amount of sunscreen and a sunhat with a fabric visor hanging over the edges of the floppy sunhat.

And there you laid beneath the shade of the large tree, a content look on your face as the music in your headphones was the only noise that you needed to hear. The pleasant melodies rang through your ears, soothing your aching limbs and calming your heartbeat. You felt a sense of placidity surge through yourself and you were glad that you chose to be alone in the woodlands.

Heatwaves of summer intermingled with the occasional breeze of cold wind gave an indistinct feeling one could not describe, you felt satisfied and at peace as the glow of the sun cascaded to touch the plains of green. Flowers untouched by others or Damien's wrath, birds soaring the skies to travel to the place they deemed home and the visage of nature could do miracles that eased a person.

You thought the mellifluous plucking of ukelele strings was what you would be hearing for another hour or so but you hear the muffled unrecognizable chatter approaching from afar interfere with the music playing through your earbuds. You don't bother to investigate who the voice belonged to, you're more inclined to hide away behind the tree trunk you were resting on. But that temptation is forgotten about when you barely move an inch, you only sigh, ready to accept whatever was bound to come your way.

You expected it to be Joy or Damien. If it's Joy, maybe she'll be asking for your assistance on saving the world again or maybe she needs your help with stopping someone from doing moronic shenanigans, maybe something morally wrong too. If it's Damien, well, you're gonna need to bring a larger tub of sunscreen for all you know. That man loves fire with a literal burning passion. Or maybe he needs your help with make-up related things or hairstyling. Either way, whoever it was, it was sure to be interesting.

That's when you notice splotches of royal blue become more distinct the closer the figure adorning the colour becomes. You contemplate if it's Dahlia, but what would she need you for? The warmonger is always on the prowl for ways of conquering summer with the help of others who had a less consistent amount of intelligence in their bodies. Damien and maybe, Aaravi are usually there to aggressively assist her with that though. What could she favour from you? Blood? Maybe, specifically, diet blood? Although you were pretty sure there was the sickening beverage of diet blood stored in the Camp Canteen fridge.ย

Then you see a little light blue spark of electricity come from the figure and your eyes widen, your heart mercilessly pounded in your chest as the realization dawned upon you. What's Vicky doing looking out for you? You thought she was doing something exciting in that haunted manor today? You didn't expect her to finish so early, frankly, even think about the fact that she was in search of you. Your face reddens at the thought that she might wanna spend time with you and you almost wanna punch yourself because of how desperate you are for affection.

"[Y/N]?" Vicky calls as she places a hand near her mouth to hopefully amplify her voice.

You chuckle, begrudgingly taking your earbuds out as you flail your arms around in the hopes that she could see you. "Here!" You shout, a small smile gracing your face.

Vicky perks her head around at the sound of your voice, she's quick to find out about your general whereabouts as she seems deep in thought as she adorably trails in circles until she finally notices your figure shrouded in dark clothing underneath the tall tree. Excitedly, she waves at you and you wave back as you pull out a book from your satchel.

Promptly, Vicky arrives over to the large tree you were relaxed by. Her interest is piqued when she notices the book that seemingly appeared to be a comic book. There's a woman adorning a teal dress, pink mist swirling around her as she poses dramatically, but it maintains a look of urbanity. The teal woman's curly brown hair sway to the side and there a few figures dressed in greek clothing watching her with different expressions on their faces. Imprinted on the cover were the words, "Aphrodite," in a daffodil yellow.

"Why are you reading about Aphrodite?" Vicky inquires, deciding to sit herself down on the grass in front of you so she doesn't have to keep looming above you.

You only shrug in response, "I was bored when I was browsing around in the library, but I did know that I felt fate made me drawn to read something about greek mythology."

Vicky nods, her eyes glimmering with even more curiosity. You can already tell that she wants to join in on what you're reading, maybe learn about the history of greek mythology herself. That topic alone leans more on magical-relations, the concept of fate and destiny aligning together and humans that owned the ability to create things at their fingertips. Vicky was more science, she liked learning about numerics, patterns, data and robotics. Your past self would doubt a lot about the fact that Vicky would wanna be your friend despite your interests being thrown way off. But you somehow managed, it was like fate had dedicated the stars to you and her.

"Well, maybe fate's making me ask this but..." Vicky drawls teasingly, causing you to arch a brow at what her intentions were. "Coach was wondering when you would come back."

Ah, it seems the Coach still has more absurd lessons to teach to the campers. You pretend to contemplate doing so, but there was no chance you were gonna be heading back anytime soon.

"I don't see that as very interesting," You murmured, "I think I'd be more content staying here."

Vicky only shrugs, not bothering on trying to nag you back to camp as she decides to seat herself beside you to peek at the contents of the novel. You don't mind in the slightest. You flip another page of your book, about to place your earbuds back on before Vicky halts you by grasping your wrist gently. The contact is a bit shocking, reddening your face briefly but you cover it up with your brows narrowed at her curiously.

"Can I listen?" Vicky queried, releasing her grasp on your arm.

Your eyes widen, chuckling soon after her at the question as you hand her the right side of your earbuds. You switch the left one to your right and pivot your head back over to the comic book resting on your lap.

"It's not the most exciting of music, but suit yourself, V," You noted.

"I'm sure, it'll be fine! You probably got an amazing taste of music," Vicky compliments making you snort.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," You giggle.

Silence lingers around in the atmosphere, over-taking the both of you as you revel in each other's presence. Vicky seems happy to be around you, her arms are placed behind her head as she stares over the woodland scenery ahead of her. Hell, Vicky seems like she's about to be lulled away into dreamland with how slow her blinks are becoming. A soft bit of laughter parts your lips, you don't intend on bothering her. She probably needs to recharge from all the stupid situations she keeps waltzing into.

So, you continue to spend your evening like this. You're plowing through the pages of the comic, clinging onto every word and illustration with intent as you let the story whisk you away into a world of fantasy. And Vicky lays by your side, inevitably asleep. Most of the time, if it were someone else, you would've swatted them away from the chance of sleeping around with you. Or waking them up in the most comedic way possibly. For once, though, you let Vicky rest on your shoulder as the sun begins to descend the horizon.

A/N ; first oneshot for this book, let's go. hope you enjoyed this one mate! have a good day/night.
