๐•ตune accepts the incoming call scoffing playfully as Trevor's skeptical face fills the screen, the brunet boy bringing the phone closer to give her a narrow eyed stare.

"You know, I wish you'd say the shit you say to me in front of Luke. I would love to see him tell you off", he remarks as a greeting.

June frowns, "What did I do?".

Trevor sighs loudly, shaking his head in disappointment.

"You know it wouldn't be summer without you. So why are you acting like you're an outsider? Hell, I probably like you more than the Hugheses. C'mon, June".

A thin smile stretches over her lips and she shrugs.

"I just sometimes feel like an outsider and I know no one wants me to feel that way but . . . . it is what it is. And okay yeah, I really want to be there but, uhm", she's almost ready to blurt out her biggest fear when she stops herself because saying it out loud would make it real and that's the last thing she wants right now when things are, surprisingly, going well.

"But what?", he pushes on.

She quietly shakes her head, "Nothing. I'll be there, don't worry".

He stares at her silently waiting for her to give in and say whatever it is that she wants to say and when she doesn't, he tilts his head.

"June, are you okay? You wanna talk?".

She abruptly nods making him sigh.

"Well . . . Jack said you're dating again. How's that going?".

The thought of Jack telling Trevor that she's "dating again" is honestly sickening. Because why does he know anything about that and why oh why is he discussing it with one of his best friends?

No, wait. Why are they discussing her love life? This is crazy.

"Does he ever keep his mouth shut?", she mumbles already regretting having to talk about this.

Trevor laughs, "It's actually kinda fun".

June rolls her eyes, smiling as she turns back to him.

"I just went on one date and we've been on friendly terms ever since. Nothing else".

"Huh", he seems to be in thought,"Well, I guess that's good because I'm pretty sure Luke's invited Ethan to hang out at the lake house for a while. Good to know you're free for him".

"Trevor, you dumfuck. We only kissed like, twice one year ago. Would you drop it already?", she fumes because ever since catching them drunkenly making out after the Fourth of July fireworks show, Trevor has been an absolute menace at the very mention of Ethan Edwards.

She admits that he's cute, and hot and like really really fun but they're just friends, you know? They've known each other since Luke got into the Umich ice hockey team and June went to one of his first games after being picked up by a grinning brunet who introduced himself as "Ethan, Luke's teammate" and informed her that her best friend was too nervous about the game, hence justifying his presence.

She likes him, obviously. But that doesn't mean she wants to get involved with him because for starters, he lives in a completely different state.

Also, they were just having some drunken fun. Can a girl not randomly make out with people anymore?

"You two are so cute together though. Please please make this year interesting and date Ethan. Please, June", he pouts dramatically blinking his eyes in fake sadness.

She purses her lips giving him an annoyed yet bored look.

"Date him yourself if you're so fucking bored".

"June", he states in mock seriousness.

She shakes her head.

"No, Z. Absolutely not".

"Butโ€”".

"No".

"It's true love".

"Die", she holds her middle finger up eliciting an exaggerated exhale from him.

They keep bantering back and forth and for a weird few minutes, June actually thinks this summer is going to be a pretty fun and eventful one.

If she only knew.
