HEARING DAMAGE
TEEN NOLA - CHAPTER ELEVEN !

NOLA HAD STUCK TO her word and had refused to climb those steps and enter the attic. The others hadn't taken the young girls warning seriously when she spoke of the unease that the attic provided her every time she thought of it.

Out of them all, only six of them had remained downstairs and away from the stupid seance. Nola, Taissa, Stevie, Javi, Laura Lee, who refused to mess with the 'occult' and Coach Ben who physically couldn't get make his way to the attic. Every so often, a mixture of chuckles and giggles would emit from those in the attic, receiving a roll of the eyes from Taissa, Nola and Stevie.

To distract herself, Nola had taken to reading a random book she had found amongst the dead cabin guys things. Most of his stuff had been absolutely covered in mould and mildew, with only a few things surviving the numerous weather changes that had occurred since his death. That book being one of them though unfortunately for the brunette, it had been written entirely in French leaving her to gaze over its contents and pick out all of the random words she remembered from French class.

So far, in the ten minutes she had sat there, she had only managed to pick up seven words. Seven words in thirteen pages. A deep sigh had rumbled within her chest as she relaxed further into the chair she sat in, curling her legs closer to her chest and welcoming the warmth that her blanket provided.

Stevie had stationed herself on the floor, directly in front of the chair that the Rilke girl had claimed. As the fire burned brightly, emitting a wonderful heat that enveloped her, her head had slowly tilted back as sleep took her, leaving her head to rest upon Nola's blanket covered feet.

When Nola had uttered her concerns for the seance, Stevie had been the only one to truly take her seriously. The fear that had swirled violently in Nola's eyes was enough to convince the McClane girl to remain downstairs and away from dirt and deer blood.

"If you thinking about flying that thing, you're even crazier than those idiots upstairs." Taissa spoke up from across the room. She was glancing over at the blonde beside her who had been perusing the pages of the passenger plane's instruction manual.

Ever since they had found that plane and both Jackie and Van had nearly been decapitated by its spinning propellers, Laura Lee had been pouring herself over that manual every chance she got.

Laura Lee shrugged. "My grandpa used to fly a Cessna and he could barely write his name." A gentle smile tugged at her lips as she continued, "Can't be that hard."

The Turner girls brows furrowed, her lips fixed into a frown and she stared hard at the blonde. Laura Lee let out a reluctant sigh. "Okay, fine. It's probably hard. But there's no harm in reading about it."

Taissa scoffed in disbelief. Her eyes shifted from her fellow Yellowjacket over to Coach Ben, where he sat reclined back in his chair and his eyes shut. "Coach, are you listening to this?" She questioned.

A series of weak pants and sighs escaped the man as his eyes peeled open. He somewhat numbly glanced around the room, at the quiet Javi who had barely spoken a word, to Nola who had glanced up from her book to listen to her friends conversation and softly pat at the sleeping Stevie's hair, before flitting his gaze over at a expectant Taissa and Laura Lee, who had buried her face back into the manual.

After a brief pause, he then just muttered, "No."

Giggles from those upstairs broke through the cabins silence yet again. A heavy sigh fell from Javi as he rushed to his feet. He had seemingly gotten fed up with the laughter as he informed them all, "I'm gonna go see what's so funny."

No sooner had the young Martinez boy climbed his way to the attic did Taissa also rise to her feet, absentmindedly brushing at clothes. "I'll be back."

Despite her worry, Nola couldn't help the tired smirk that grew on her lips as she watched Taissa walk away. "Have fun. Don't do anything I wouldn't do." She quipped sarcastically. A small chuckle fell from her lips when she received a playful middle finger from the Turner girl in response.

A small sniffle from a now awake Stevie caused Nola to glance down just in time to see a pair of big brown eyes peering up at her. "Where's she going?" Stevie asked, her head tilted slightly to the side in curiosity.

Nola quieted her voice in an instant as she replied, "Just upstairs. Go back to sleep." Her hand snuck away from her book once again to pat at Stevie's hair in an attempt to lull the girl back into a slumber. It appeared to work when soft snores escaped from the brunette only seconds later.

The gentle crackling of the fire filled the silence once more. That comforting silence didn't last long however. All of a sudden, a violent and terror gripped scream ripped though the air and echoed through the cabin. Nola jumped to her feet in an instant, her movement and the scream pulling Stevie from her sleep once again. Coach Ben, who had to sit on the sidelines due to his leg and Laura Lee, stayed down the stairs, watching as the two brunette's scrambled up the stairs to the attic.

A gentle buzzing filled Nola's ears the very instant she entered the attic, though she chose to simply ignore it.

Her eyes widened with fear as she scanned the room, taking in the sight. Many of the girls had crowded themselves around a shaking, mumbling Lottie. "What the fuck is going on?" Nola cried out, capturing the attention of a few who all just shook their heads.

None of them seemed to know what had happened. One second they were laughing, having fun and the next, the Matthews girl had screeched out and the window had crashed open.

The Rilke girl's gaze shot over to a wide eyed Taissa. "I told you not to do anything."

Taissa's eyes turned sharp with annoyance instantaneously, her jaw slackened with complete perplexity. Using her hands, she gestured to the still panicked Lottie and exclaimed, "Obviously this wasn't me, Nola."

Lottie's voice had become frantic, her pupils shaking wildly as she shook her body back and forth. "It wants...it wants..." it sounded almost as if the words were being forced out of her mouth, pushed past her lips but some unknown entity.

"Misty, what do we do?" Van cried out for help. Misty stood off to the side, fear and confusion painted across her face. She had no fucking idea what to do in this type of situation.

"Lottie, I swear to god, if you're fucking with us!" Mari was frightened as she shuffled back across the wooden floorboards.

Though Nola knew nought on how to help the Matthews girl, she still bulldozed her way past the fearsome group, basically elbowing them while grumbling on how they should have listened to her as she dropped to her knees in front of Lottie. The girl continued her incoherent mumblings, barely paying Nola any attention.

With a tight grip, Nola continued to ignore the buzzing that had only grown louder the closer to Lottie she got and grabbed hold of Lottie's hands that had fallen flat against the attic floor. She attempted to force an authoritarian tone to her voice as she demanded, "Lottie, talk to me." only to receive more scared mumbles in returned.

At the front of the room, packed close to Mari and Crystal, Akilah piped up. "I think she's like, possessed."

Though she too was scared, Shauna ducked her head lower to try and catch Lottie's eyes. Her voice was gentle, her words calming as she spoke. "Lottie, sweetie. What's going on? What does 'it' want?"

"Hungry." Lottie murmured, her teeth bared at the group whose eyes had grown wider with each passing second. A laugh unlike the ones that had left her lips minutes prior reverberated off the attic walls. It was truly unsettling and lacked all signs of humour.

She smirked over at Shauna, shook her hands free from Nola's grip before almost digging her fingernails into Shauna's hands, burrowing beneath her skin as she shushed her. "It's in you already."

Taissa took an aggressive step forward as her brows furrowed in frustration. She was also scared though she wouldn't admit it. "Lottie, knock it off, this isn't a game." She commanded though her words fell on deaf ears.

The deranged looking girl spun to stare at Nola. "You hear it, don't you?"

She was right. Of course she was right. The buzzing has become a voice yet again. Though now Nola understood why she hadn't been able to comprehend any of the words she had heard previously. She was being spoken to in French.

"You hear it calling for you." Lottie cackled. Soon she began to murmur once again, though this time they all took notice of the lack of English that fell from her lips. Her voice grew deeper and more raspy as she spoke another language seemingly fluently.

           Van stuttered, "Is that French?"

Natalie's black eyeshadow smudged eyes blew wide open as she glanced around in disbelief. "Since when does Lottie speak French?" She then questioned.

Shauna immediately looked over at Jackie. Perhaps someone could translate what she was saying. "Jackie, w-wasn't she in your class?"

Jackie nodded. "Yeah, but she sucks at French."

"Well, what's she saying?"

The Taylor girl aggressively shrugged her shoulders, throwing them high in the air before they collapsed back into her body as she cried back, "I don't know! I suck at French, too!"

Van was quick to snap back at the blonde. "Well, damn it Jackie! Try not to!"

As the same phrase seemed to tumble from Lottie's lips, Jackie's eyes became more narrow as she tried to focus. "Uh 'he-he..it-it' it wants something." She succeeded in translating the beginning of Lottie's words. "Blood? I think shes saying blood."

Mari's bottom lip was practically quivering with fear at this point. Her voice had grown high in pitch. "Not the word I wanna be hearing right now."

They all chose to ignore Mari. In that moment dealing with Lottie was their highest priority. Jackie then suddenly blurted out, "Shit. More blood stuff? I don't know."

Nola slowly started shuffling back from Lottie who was growing more jittery by the second. By now the French speaking man was practically screaming at her, his words matching exactly with those that left Lottie's lips. She winced in pain, her eardrums ringing like crazy. Her shuffling was stopped when her body collided against the scared mass of girls that was Mari, Crystal and Akilah. Each of them reached out an hand to steady her, welcoming Nola into their little group of fear.

Then was another fear enveloped pause as Jackie tried to decipher more of Lottie's French. "Here? Here, she's saying here."

Van attempted to speak to Lottie. "There's blood where, Lottie?"

Taissa's gaze fixed into a glare over at the redhead. With her voice now sounding more annoyed than before, she snapped, "You really have to be encouraging her, Van?"

"Blood here, or out there?"

Without answering, Lottie slowly rose to her feet, her gaze almost menacing as it feasted upon the freaked out expressions of the attics inhabitants. She finally reverted back to speaking English, a warning on her lips. "You must spill blood. Or else..."

"Or else what, Lottie?" Jackie worriedly inquired.

The Matthews girl spun around on her heel, turning away from them all to face the window. Both her hands rose up till they were parallel to her head, gripping the windows frame, fingernails digging in deep at the weathered wood and scrapping up small chunks from the frame. Without a word, Lottie inhaled deeply, pulled back her head before sending it crashing against the glass causing it to break and slice a huge gash across her forehead.

Powerful screams that seemed to crawl their way up Lottie's chest expelled from her lips as blood began to trickle down her face, mapping a line down her nose and mouth where it settled and assaulted her tongue. The horrid taste of copper burdened her tongue. Many of the girls jumped up to pull her away from the window to stop her from harming herself further. As Lottie fell to her knees still screeching, the others fell with her too, each of them trying to sooth and calm the bloodied girl.

Suddenly a voice began to cry out, "The power of Christ compels you! Begone Satan, the power of Christ compels you!" All of them looked up to see Laura Lee looming over Lottie, the bible in her hands. "Lottie! Lottie stop!"

Her pleas fell upon deaf ears as the Matthews girl continued to scream. When her attempts of expelling whatever plagued Lottie didn't work, Laura Lee made a rash decision and tossed her bible down at Lottie, the book hitting her with a loud thud before toppling to the attic floor.

Lottie's screams had ceased, instead being replaced by a whine of pain from the girl as she squinted up at the blonde. "Ow. What the hell, Laura Lee?"

"Seriously?" Mari asked in disbelief. She glanced around the room with panicked eyes. "What the motherfuck just happened?"
