CHAPTER SIXTEEN.

It's two days later and I still can't stop thinking about Chris. I mean he's everywhere lately but even before I go to sleep.

I'm thinking about him. And us.. in the hot tob.

I told him I wanted Matt but that's because I couldn't just put this contract behind me. Chris couldn't know about our deal because nobody could know.

So I'm letting Chris help me. He says Matt is still hung up on Nailea and I can see that now. The subtle glances, his hand on her shoulder, that look in his eyes.

Everything with us is fake, what they have is real.

Matt wraps both his arms around me as everyone plays Uno. My hair is out a all over the place but he doesn't seem to mind.

"No! You can't put a plus fucking four after I do a plus two!" Nick demands as Thomas and Larray roll their eyes.

We're filming a challenge video. The winner get $100 and food of their choice and the loser has to do the chores in the house.

Me, Chris, Matt and Larray are already out. I think Matt's only being touchy with me because the cameras recording for our episode and I think that Chris is only staring at me because...

Well I don't know.

Another thirty minutes go by and they're still playing while Nick is on his switch, upset to be out. Bea throws cards down suddenly and Thomas stares down in shock.

"Yesssss!" Bea shouts and does a little dance behind Nick sighs,

"I'm not washing any underwear!" He swears and we all laugh.

"I'm getting Burger King!" She says, walking into the kitchen and back to the living room with a cup of water.

"Oh my gosh can I have your crown?! PLEASE?" He begs and she thinks it over. They start negotiating and we all laugh at them.

Nick Chris and Matt do their famous outro and we tell "byeeee!" to the camera until later.

Matt walks away and goes upstairs to grab something and Chris walks over to me immediately.

"C'mere. I'm gonna show you something." He says and I nod, following him around the corner and towards the back of the house.

He smirks and then shows me two cats, sleeping next to each other. I laugh.

"I thought you were a dog person?" I ask just assuming, not many guys I know even like cats.

"Sometimes.. they were just sleeping here." He's watching them rest in satisfaction. I smile at him. We haven't spoke much about our deal and I guess he wanted to forget it. Maybe I did too. Matt's been on his best behavior anyways.

Chris starts gently messing with the cats and picks them up. They relax while he holds them.

I snap a picture of Chris and he laughs. "Lemme see it.." I show him as he lets them down.

I'm posting this, I promise as we walk back outside to let the cats down. "Maybe we should get them some food."

"Yeah we can soon."

I start posting the picture and a silence falls around us.

I laugh at my caption before I stare at him. We both stare at the jacuzzi, thinking about the other night ago. He clears his throat.

"I'm sorry.. for what I did. I thought about it and I got ahead of myself. I should've never... spoken to my brothers girlfriend like that. I'm sorry Naelani." He ranted, apologizing for what happened between us. He held eye contact and I looked away.

"I can't accept your apology." I said because it didn't feel like we did anything wrong. I knew we did but it didn't feel that way. I'm lying to him, about being in a relationship with Matt but maybe that's not all I'm lying about. He looks at me regretfully.

"I'm really sorry." He says honestly and a few seconds pass by, "since you first got here I've been messing stuff up and I'm sorry. I don't know what to do around you I don't know what's the right way to act." He says and I look at him, wanting to meet his eyes while he says what's on his mind.

"I can't accept it because I you didn't do anything wrong. We got a little ahead of ourselves yeah but.. it's not the end of the world." I offer and he shoots me a cheesy smile like he's surprised that I said what I said. "If making Matt jealous is going to work I wanna do it." I offer and he nods with a blank look behind his eyes.

"Okay." He says, agreeing.

It has to work. I wanna say. I need the money for my friend, I just need to pay her hospital bill, she needs me. She has nobody else but me. But I don't say any of that because I refuse to be vulnerable.

"Thank you Chris." I say before wrapping my arms around his neck in a hug. At first he stays stiff but then he calms to my touch and wraps his arms around my waist, breathing me in.

A door slides from behind us, "we're getting ready to go to the beach for the bonfire." I see Matt standing behind us, his grip on the door handle is tight as he stares at the both of us in suspicion.

"Oh okay! We'll be out." I tell Matt and he just stares at Chris and then walks away.

"Accidental W?" Chris says with a smug smile and I laugh and then push him.

"Shut up!" I say and Chris laughs and then pulls me in for another hug. It's unexpected but this time his arms are around my neck instead and I laugh into his hoodie.

"I know you're with him but sometimes... " he says before going silent and so do I, "I like how easy this is. That's all. Forgot I said something." He messes with my curls before going back inside.

Me and Bea got ready to meet everyone else at the beach. Matt, Nai, Thomas, and Larray were already there. Bea and I both took showers before going down because we were in the heat earlier, playing a game of football in the sand with Nick and Chris.

We were done, putting on our bathing suits. Mine was a sunset orange they wrapped around my neck and had a modest bottom. Beas was a pink one piece with holes in it every now and then.

"Do you think you love Matt?" Bea asked as my eyes snapped open and wide.

"Umm whyre you asking?" I asked her and she looked guilty. Like she knew something but she was holding back from saying what she felt.

"I'm gonna be honest. Only because I see that you guys are like connected..." I nod and Bea looks me in the eyes and says, "Nailea said she wanted to get back with him but she doesn't want to get in the way of you guys.. she still loves him."

"Oh..." I say, walking out. Does he even want to help me? Or is he just pretending?

Did he just bring me here to make his ex jealous?

No.

We have a deal and when the show is over we both make profits.

Or we both make profits and he gets his ex back. That would be shitty. And I can't stop thinking about it as we walk to the beach. Chris stares at me, asking me if I'm okay through his concerned glance. I break eye contact.

We get the beach and the moon is shinning through the water, the bonfire is burning bright. Nick runs to Thomas and shouts, they started messing around with the marshmallows and chocolate. They're cute... what they have is serious.

Olivia Rodrigo is ending her song as another artist plays on the speaker they brung to the beach. I walk over to the logs that are set up around the burning fire. And it looks similar to how I feel. The flames dancing with each other, unsure of when they'll burn out, just free and wild.

I pause as I see Matt. He's sitting next to Nai and her head is on his shoulder. He's gazing down at her like she's a princess and she's not even noticing, just eating a s'more.

He's doing this in front of everyone? Does he not know how this looks?

Chris is already sitting and he's watching me watch them. I take a deep breath and sit down but when I land it's softer than a log. I turn around, face to face with waves of brown hair.

Chris.

I'm sitting on his lap and that's all it takes for Matt to realize that I'm here. His anger is clear, directed at Chris and not me. Nailea doesn't even realize the tension so she just keeps eating.

Chris let's his hand rest on my thigh, making sure I'm sitting properly.

"Good job." He laughs because he knows it was an accident. My body is thrumming and the heat of the fire isn't hot, not compared to how face feels, sitting this close to Chris again.

And I realize I don't want his help for Matt. I don't want Matt to be jealous. I don't want Matt to fix his behavior and let go of Nailea so we can complete our contract properly.

I just want Chris to hold me like it's natural. But I don't know if he will if it's not to make his brother jealous and that scares me.
