To be honest, Kya missed this, she missed having younger kids come up to her, but right now, it felt more overwhelming than playful.Β

Though she had spoken to them for a minute, Suki, the warrior who had spoken to the leader, had helped her and shooed the kids away. Katara and Aang walked out after her while Sokka had had been waiting for everyone.Β

On their way to one of the halls, Sokka tried to start a conversation with Suki, which in Kya's opinion was a failed attempt but she wasn't going to say anything.

He said, "I get it. I know why you wanted us off your island.Β  I'd have done the same thing. It's a big responsibility, all these people's lives in your hands. Personally, I take that responsibility very seriously."

Suki didn't seem to be listening and kept walking in front of them. Kya looked to the side towards Aang who was fighting to smile at the scene. She nudged him and the two chuckled, though Sokka looked back and glared at them.Β

Β  Β "I, uh. . .I'm the guardian of my village, too, so. . ." Sokka started again only for Suki to interrupt him.Β

Β  Β "You?" she said.Β

Β  Β "Yep."

Β  Β "A guardian?" she continued. "So how are you protecting your people if you're here?"

Sokka answered quickly, not thinking of his answer, "What? I'm not." Then realised and said, "I mean, I am. I may... I may not physically be there, but still... That is, I'm... I have to save the world first."

Suki didn't seem impressed and started walking away again as Sokka turned to Katara and asked, "Katara, how does it go again? I'm protecting Aang, so I'm protecting the village..." Though Katara just smiled amusingly.Β

He turned back only to find Suki already a few metres away from them, "Hey! Hey! Um... The point is we have a lot in common. We're both warriors, right?" He ran up to her as she turned back.

Suki seemed to be triggered by this and said with confidence, "Before she died, Avatar Kyoshi trained an elite force in her image. One ready to protect not only our homes but our way of life. That tradition has been passed down through the generations, and it is now my honour to protect this community and to uphold the values of the Avatar. That is why I'm not just a warrior."

Β  Β "I'm a Kyoshi Warrior." she finished and walked away from him.Β

Kya impressed by that, chuckled at Sokka's expression and walked past him to follow Suki. She mocked Sokka and said, "Come on, warrior. Maybe you should learn a thing or two from Suki."

Sokka rolled his eyes, "Yeah, yeah, very funny," he muttered, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.Β

Kya laughed and walked towards Suki who was waiting for them. Suki showed them where they'd be staying for the days and left for a while. Kya freshened up while the others did their own things and left for the hall where they'd be eating. She eventually arrived at the hall, where Aang, Katara, and Momo were sitting at a long table with food scattered across it.Β

Though she hadn't scanned the room, so she didn't see the sulking Sokka on the side.Β

The woman who had brought her, placed another dish on the already filled table. She smiled at Kya and walked out. Kya turned back to the others and walked to sit next Aang, Katara wasn't very keen on sitting next to her, so she wasn't going to fuel any arguments.Β

Β  Β "This looks so good!" said Kya with a smiled as Aang nodded eagerly. Katara on the other hand looked uneasy, to be fair, she'd never have any other food other than the Southern Water Tribe food.Β

Β  Β "All right! Dessert for breakfast!" exclaimed Aang throwing his hands in the air. Kya chuckled at his excitement.Β

Katara poked one of the squishy looking, orange puffs in front of her. She picked it up and seemed to be not sure whether to try it or not.Β

Aang on the other hand started stuffing his face, two desserts at once while Kya slowly took a small bite from one of the dishes and after tasting it, her eyes widened, and she too began stuffing her face with food.Β

Β  Β "These people sure know . . ." said Aang then ate more and continued,Β "How to treat an Avatar!"

Kya hummed in agreement and closed her eyes, enjoying the food.Β

Aang took another bite and hummed, "Mmm. . . Katara you've got to try these."Β

He offered one of the desserts he is holding to Katara who thought about it for a minute and said, "Well, maybe just a bite." Finally, she accepted the dessert Aang offered her and took a bite.Β

Momo sneaked up on Aang, he snatched the dessert out of his other hand and quickly dashed away, though Aang only smiled at Momo. Katara munched down the piece of cake and reached across the table for the same dessert Aang took. Kya was still eating peacefully on the other side of Aang.Β

Aang glanced towards Katara's side, then leaned back and looked at Sokka who was sitting in a corner, with his arms crossed while frowning. "Sokka, what's your problem? Eat!"

Kya hadn't even realised Sokka was in the room with them, but the moment Aang asked him, Kya jumped up and stared at the grumpy looking Sokka. "Sokka! You have to try these, they're so good!"Β

Β  Β "Not hungry." said Sokka.Β

Aang's eyes widened open in surprise.Β "But you're always hungry!"

Katara glanced amusingly at Aang, and teased Sokka saying, "He's just upset because a bunch of girls kicked his ass."

Sokka protested as he jumped up, "They snuck up on me! She's not even that good!"

Kya chuckled and mocked him, "Right, of course. AndΒ theyΒ still kicked your ass."

Sokka angrily stood up and started mumbling with protests as he walked away, "Sneak attacks don't count!Β I'll show them a thing or two." He turned around and walked back to the table and faced Katara, Aang and Kya. "I'm not scared of any girls. Who do they think they are anyway?"

He aggressively snatched one of the desserts and shoved it in his mouth while he walked away from them, "Mmm. . .this is tasty."

Kya shrugged and went back to eating, while Aang lifted an eyebrow and said, "What's he so angry about?Β It's great here. They're giving us the royal treatment!"

Β  Β "Hey, don't get too comfortable. It's risky for us to stay in one place for very long." said Katara.Β

Β  Β "I'm sure we'll be fine.Β Besides, did you see how happy I'm making this town? They're even cleaning up that statue in my honour!"

Β  Β "That's true! I mean they look so happy!" added Kya. "Look at the kids!"

Β  Β "Well, it's nice to see you excited about being the Avatar.Β I just hope it doesn't all go to your head." said Katara who was concerned. Kya sighed; she knew that Katara was right.Β

Β  Β "Come on, you know me better than that. I'm just a simple monk." said Aang.Β

Β  Β "Right?" said Kya sarcastically as Aang got up and ran out, he was followed outside by a group of kids and girls running around yelling out his name. Kya smiled at him and sighed. This was going to be a long day.Β

Β  Β "You gotta admit, he has a way with people." said Katara looking out towards Aang who was playing with the kids. "He knows how to connect, to get through to people like he did last night. That's his real power. Connection. Building bridges."

Β  Β "That's how he's gonna be the Avatar." finished Katara, looking back at the two.Β

Kya looked back in front towards Aang who was now on one of his air balls and was going around while the kids tried to get to him that was until he lost balance and rammed straight into a statue. Kya cringed and said, "Ouch."

As she walked around, she heard someone mumbling a few metres away from her, near the river. And so, curiosity took over her and she walked towards said sounds. Kya was not sure if she should go on when she saw who was there in the first place.Β

Katara stood at the edge of the river, frustration evident on her face as she attempted to waterbend. Her movements were clumsy and uncoordinated, and each failed attempt only fuelled her anger even more. She grunted and mumbled to herself.Β

She clenched her fists, her brows furrowing in concentration as she tried again and again to manipulate the water.

Kya watched from a distance, observing Katara's struggles. She felt bad and guilt, she knew that Katara was struggling with her waterbending and maybe her own emotions, and she wished she could find a way to help her.Β

Slowly, Kya approached Katara, treading carefully to avoid startling her which would not be great for Kya.

Β  Β "Hey, Katara," she called out softly, she tried to be as gentle as possible.Β

Katara whipped around, her eyes flashing with anger as she saw Kya approaching. "What do you want?" she snapped.

Kya held up her hands and smiled sadly, "I. . . I just wanted to see if you needed any help," she offered tentatively. "I know you've been struggling with your waterbending, and I thought maybe I could. . . help you. . ."

Katara's expression softened slightly at Kya's words, but her anger got the better of her and she scoffed at Kya.Β

Β  Β  "Why should I accept help from you?" she retorted bitterly. "You've been hiding things from me for years, and now you expect me to just trust you?"

Kya's heart sank at Katara's words, "I understand that you're angry with me," she said quietly. "And I know I don't deserve your trust right now. But please, let me help you. We're supposed to support each other, no matter what."

Tears welled up in Katara's eyes as she looked at Kya, "You don't understand," she whispered hoarsely, her voice trembling with emotion. "I've spent years feeling alone. And now. . . now I find out that you've been hiding this from me all along."

Kya sighed at the pain in Katara's voice, her own eyes filling with tears as she reached out to her and continued.

Β  Β  "I'm so sorry, Katara," she whispered, her voice cracked slightly. "I never meant to hurt you. Please, let me make it right. Let me help you and let me tell you everything."

After a moment of hesitation, she nodded reluctantly, allowing Kya to approach her and she hugged her.Β

Kya and Katara sat together by the riverside, they had spent almost an hour and a half talking about everything. As they talked, Katara's initial shock slowly gave way to a flood of questions and emotions.Β

Kya did her best to answer each one honestly, revealing the truth about her. Katara listened intently, her expression shifting from disbelief to sadness to being weirded out to somewhat understanding.Β

He was basically just throwing around his boomerang towards melons and tree barks, though he did have very good aim, Kya would never admit that. Sokka would have just rubbed it in her face, that he had better aim than her.Β

That was until he threw his boomerang a little too far up the hill, grumbling aggressively as he walked up towards the training hall.Β

Β  Β "I can't believe I got beat up by a bunch of girls." grunted Sokka to himself.Β

Inside the hall, some of the Kyoshi Warriors were training, Suki leading them. They are performing a routing with their fans in perfect unison. Sokka peeked his head around the door to look at them.

He smiled smugly and walked in to try and intimidate them, though that didn't seem to work at all. He arrogantly said, "Sorry ladies,Β didn't mean to interrupt your dance lesson."

Β Suki and the other warriors stopped their exercise and close their fans, only to stare at Sokka who was stretching, with a serious look.Β

Β  Β "I was just looking for somewhere to get a little workout?" asked Sokka.Β

Β  Β "Well, you're in the right place. Sorry about yesterday. I didn't know that you were friends with the Avatar." said Suki, rather amusingly.Β

Sokka who was stretching his arms, said, "It's all right. I mean, normally I'd hold a grudge, but seeing as you guys are a bunch of girls, I'll make an exception."

Β  Β "I should hope so. A big strong man like you? How could we ever stand a chance?" said Suki sarcastically, as the other warriors tried to suppress their laughs.

Sokka didn't seem to catch that though, and continued to say smugly, "True. But don't feel bad. After all, I am the greatest warrior in my village."

Suki leaned closer to him and continued sarcastically, "Wow! Best warrior, huh? In your whole village? Maybe you'd be kind enough to give us a little demonstration."

Β  Β "Oh. . .Well you know. . .I mean. . .I . . ." stuttered Sokka, not thinking they'd ask him to do so.Β

Though Suki didn't really care as she turned to the other girls and said, "Come on, girls! Wouldn't you like him to show us some moves?"

Β  Β "Well, if that's what you want, I'd be happy to." He placed his hands on Suki's shoulder in order to push her back a little, but she didn't move which didn't faze her. "All right, you stand over there. Now, this may be a little tough, but try to block me., it's okay if it doesn't work."

Sokka took a fighting stance while Suki did not move a muscle from her position. Sokka tried to attack the female warrior by trying to punch her but with no luck because Suki did not move.Β

She easily defended herself by bringing up her left arm and thrusting her closed fan against Sokka's shoulder.Β

Sokka cried out in pain and staggered backward, as he clutched his shoulder. "Aw! Of course, I was going easy on you."

Suki faced him with a confident face and said, "Of course."

πˆπ“ 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄 π“πŽ π’π€π˜ 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 π’πŽπŠπŠπ€Β π‡π€πƒ π‡πˆπ’ 𝐀𝐒𝐒 kicked by Suki. How did Kya know? Well, Suki told her, the girl had gone back to the village after making up with Katara and had met with Suki midway towards the house. The two girls spoke for what felt like hours.Β

It felt good to get along with other people, to make friends, Kya was happy that the day had gone well. Kya smiled as she recalled her conversation with Suki.Β

As they walked back to the village together, Suki had shared stories about her training as a Kyoshi Warrior and how she'd always wanted to leave the island and explore the world.Β

Kya had known what that had felt like and she had asked Suki to come with them when they leave. Though the latter had denied and stated that she had to stay with her village.Β

And so, when Suki changed the subject, Kya let it go.Β

At last Suki mentioned the incident with Sokka, Kya couldn't help but laugh out loud at his failed attempt. She wouldn't tell anyone, but she was happy that someone had put him in his place and had proven him wrong.Β

Now, as Kya made her way back to the house where they'd stayed, she didn't really know where anyone else was at that point though as she passed the market, she'd seen Katara trying to buy a few vegetables and Aang next to her. They looked like they were sort of arguing.

After a while she'd passed the training hall where she'd seen Sokka slowly making his way up towards it with a sullen face. Kya knew at that moment that Sokka had realised how badly he'd behaved.Β

Sokka on the other hand was thinking of his actions, he really had thought about it and when he did realise what he'd done, Sokka couldn't help but feel bad.

As he walked through the doors of the training hall, he saw Suki training on her own, the latter stopped when she saw Sokka walk in.Β  Β

Β  Β "Uh. . .Hey, Suki." said Sokka awkwardly.Β

Β  Β "Hoping for another dance lesson?" asked Suki passive aggressively.Β

Β  Β "No . . . I . . . well, let me explain." tried Sokka, but he really had no clue how to act.Β

Β  Β "Spit it out! What do you want?" said Suki as hostile as she could.Β

Sokka looked hurt at Suki's hostility, but with a heavy heart, he humbly dropped to his knees in front of her.Β "I would be honoured if you would teach me your ways."

Β  Β "Even if I'm a girl?" said Suki.

Sokka averted his eyes and replied, "I'm sorry if I insulted you earlier. I was . . . very wrong."

Suki crossed her arms while looking down at Sokka who stayed still. "We normally don't teach outsiders, let alone boys."

Β  Β "Please make an exception." Sokka raised his head to look at her and bowed again, "I won't let you down."

And he didn't. . .
