Sawyer loved the sport of lacrosse because it meant he got to let out all the pent up aggression he piled up over the course of the day. It was a good way to knock some guys on their asses if they got too close and helping his team get to another win. The cheers from his fellow classmates and their families — hell, even Devin and Eric were in the stands tonight — always made him feel like he was a performer on stage, their chants and encouragement all the extra boost he needed to show he wasn't a failure.

Sawyer David Bowen wasn't a failure and he had to constantly remind himself of that, even though he never believed it when he said it to himself.

However, that was a thought that Sawyer couldn't even focus on at the moment as this particular game was important. He sat on the bench next to Stiles, having just been sat down by Finstock after he'd gotten a minor penalty for knocking a guy to the ground a little too hard. It was purposely done, of course, so Sawyer could help Stiles sneak into Gerard's office. Scott was off on the filed still while Allison sat in the cheering crowd with her grandfather who they needed to get the book from still. A plan that Stiles, Sawyer, Scott and Allison all intended to get through before the game was over.

Yet another one of the Beacon Hills' players had been slammed to the ground by the monster that was on the field. Finstock blew his whistle obnoxiously as the six foot something menace from the other team stood over the groaning Beacon Hills player. "Is that even a teenager? I want to see a birth certificate! Who or what is that genetic experiment gone wrong?"

"Eddie Obomowitz, Finny-Boy," Sawyer informed his coach, running a hand through his thick hair as he sighed. The kid truly was a whole different entity with his solid muscle, skyscraper type height and power that was able to knock all the Beacon Hills players down like they were a bunch of bowling pins and he was the bowling ball. "They call him The Abomination."

"Oh, that's cute," Finstock grumbled, shoving up from the bench and storming away to go back to screaming at the players on the field.

Sawyer snorted as he watched Finstock point his fingers and scream at the team about how his grandmother could play better than all of them. He had rolled his eyes playfully just as he heard Allison cough, the sound perking his ears up to the signal they'd agreed on once she'd gotten the keys from Gerard. He nudged Stiles in the side subtly for him to sneak off with him and the duo swiftly grabbed the keys from Allison and rushing away from the field before anyone could wonder where they were.

On their way towards the side entrance of the school that was closest to the principal's office, crying could be heard from a blue Prius to the two boys' right. One glance into the back window showed it was Lydia's car and the girls sniffles and sobs could be heard from inside. Even the scent of heartbreak lingered in the air around the car, causing Sawyer's nose to twitch from the scent of it. He noticed Stiles go to continue towards the building but Sawyer grabbed the back of his red track suit jacket.

"Sti, Lydia's crying," Sawyer hissed lowly to Stiles, jerking his finger in the direction of Lydia's car. He only tightened his grip and hauled the buzzcut haired boy over to the car and he flashed Lydia a small smile. "Lydia, hey, you okay?"

Lydia scoffed through another sob, going to close the window when Sawyer quickly shot his hand out to stop the window from going up. If Lydia thought it was weird that Sawyer was able to keep the window down inside the car, she didn't mention it as her dull, green eyes met Sawyers blue ones. "Bowen, just go away! I don't want anyone to see me cry."

Sawyer's lips twitched and he ducked down so he could be eye level with the crying Martin girl. "Well, last time I checked Stiles and I were just nobodies so . . . why don't you tell us what's wrong so we can help? I am always willing to punch someone in the face."

"You're gonna think I sound crazy," Lydia sniffled, slowly dropping her hand from the button that would raise or lower her window. She slumped back against the front seat and rubbed at her red, swollen eyes and blew into the tissue she clutched tightly in her fists.

"Lydia, believe me when I say that anything you tell Sawyer can never, ever sound crazy," Stiles chimed in, ducking next to Sawyer as their arms brushed on the top of the window where they both rested their arms. A jolt went down Sawyer's arm at the touch and he bit the inside of his lip to stop his thoughts as Lydia was crying and she was his main priority. Not the fact that Stiles' elbow was rubbing against his and it made his heart pick up.

The sound of cheers from the field cut off whatever Lydia was about to say and it reminded Sawyer and Stiles that they both actually had a job to do. A job that they only had a limited amount of time to do with the game getting closer and closer to its end with every passing second. Cursing to himself, Sawyer rushed out to Stiles that he should stay and talk to Lydia while he ran off to the school. A swift lie about bathrooms flowed from his lips before he was off without waiting for Stiles' response.

Thankfully, the halls were empty and dark so Sawyer was able to sneak into Gerard's office with no problems. He pushed his way inside and headed straight for the desk, scrambling through each and every one. Stranded paper clips and spare staples lined the bottoms of the drawers and various papers and folders filled the drawers. However, not a single drawer held the book he was looking for.

"You have got to be fucking kidding me," Sawyer huffed to himself, plucking out his phone from the pocket of his red lacrosse shorts. He shot off a quick text to Allison about the book not being in the office and leant back against the wall behind him, rubbing a hand over his face in exasperation.

Nothing could ever go the pack's way, could it?

Though, he wasn't given the chance to wait for Allison's text when a shout was heard from inside the school. It took Sawyer's brain a moment to register that the scream had come from Stiles. It was like a gear was switched on in Sawyer and all he could focus on was Stiles. His feet barreled him away from the office and towards the source of the screams that lead him towards Beacon Hill High School's open swimming pool behind the gym. He skidded a stop inside the heated room, the tiles slick with pool water.

Sawyer's eyes snapped around the area until it fell on Derek and Stiles in the pool. Derek looked like he was using Stiles to keep himself up while Stiles bobbed up and down while he tried to keep them both up and so they wouldn't drown. Erica could be seen knocked out on the other side of the pool, her blonde, curly hair covering her face as her breaths were shallow and slow. He opened his mouth to speak while stepping closer to the pool when he felt a scratch along the back of his neck.

With a hiss, Sawyer gripped the stinging area and whipped around to see the same creature from the mechanic flash past him. He could feel the tingling of numbness begin to spread to his body and he soon dropped to the wet, tiled floor with his eyes focused on Derek and Stiles in the pool.

"Our hero," Derek quipped, his blue eyes narrowing into slits at the Bowen boy. "Why did you just run in here?"

"I heard screaming!" Sawyer argued back, growling in annoyance that Derek was actually yelling at him for trying to come to their rescue. And then people wondered why Sawyer always said he felt like he failed everyone around him. "Next time, I'll leave your werewolf ass to rot, Hale. Not my fault this reptilian dick has a thing for numbing people!"

"Alright, enough!" Stiles called over the arguing werewolves, coughing as water got caught in his throat and continued to keep him and Derek above water. "Look, I don't — I don't see the thing anymore. It must have ran off after it attacked Saw. Maybe I can get to my phone and call Scott."

"Make it snappy because I'm wet in places that shouldn't be wet!" Sawyer complained, wishing he could move and shift off the wet tiles. The water soaked into him annoyingly and the cold from the tiles he laid on didn't make it much better. He swore his dick would freeze off. Was it dramatic thinking? Probably. Did Sawyer care? No.

Stiles grunted as he went to swim him and Derek towards the edge of the pool where Sawyer laid with Stiles' phone not too far from where he laid. The spastic teen had made it a paces before Derek quickly stopped him, alerting Stiles to the fact that the creature was back once again. Its growls could be heard from across the pool and Stiles stopped right where he was in the middle of the pool. "What is it waiting for? Why isn't it attacking us?"

Sawyer tried to move his head and see where the creature was, but was reminded his whole body had been paralyzed so he couldn't turn his head to find where the creature slinked around. "Yeah, I'm not really complaining here on that one."

"Wait, did you see that?" Stiles asked, head turned in the direction that Sawyer couldn't see where a hiss had come from. "He went to touch the water, but pulled back. I don't think it could swim."

"That's fine and dandy for you two, but what about me?!" Sawyer yelled, wishing he could move his arms so he could dramatically gesture to himself for being the odd man out and out in the open. "I'm on dry land here!"

Derek's eyes watched at the creature cowered back against the wall, shaking a bit from what he wanted to assume was fear. "I think he's too scared at the moment to really bother you,Bowen."

"Yeah, be scared, reptilian dick! Once I get my bearings back, I'm tearing into your scaly ass!" Sawyer taunted the creature, which was probably not the smartest idea. Though, Sawyer was never one to make rational decisions, especially not when he was in a tense situation. His mouth was always getting the better of him.

Stiles's hazel eyes drifted from the scared creature and over to his phone that still rested near Sawyer. If he could just get to his phone, he could call Scott and have the werewolf come save him, Erica, Derek and Sawyer. He went to move away from Derek to try and get to the phone, but the alpha quickly snapped at him to not even think of letting him go. "Okay, seriously, can you trust me just this once?! I'm the one keeping you alive here, did you notice that?"

Sawyer let out a laugh and sent Derek a mocking grin. "I say drown him, Sti."

"You know what? When the paralysis wears off, I'm ripping off both of your heads," Derek huffed out in annoyance, his head sinking lower and lower towards the water as Stiles' grip on him begin to slacken a bit. "Who can fight that thing, Stiles? You or Sawyer and I? It doesn't look like Sawyer will be coming out of his paralysis before me so you need me to be alive to save your ass."

"Oh, and that's why I've been holding you up this whole time?"

"Yup. You guys don't trust me and I don't trust you, but you need me to survive, which is why you're not letting me go," Derek barked at Stiles.

Much to Sawyer and Derek's surprise, Stiles glared at Derek before shoving the werewolf off him and sending him floating down to the bottom of the pool. He swim his way quickly over to the side of the pool and grabbed Sawyer instead of his cell phone when he noticed that the creature began to slowly make its way towards Sawyer. Tugging him down into the pool, Stiles gripped to the Bowen boy as his head lolled onto his shoulder.

"I got you, Saw, I got you," Stiles promised, kicking his legs to keep them both afloat. He gave Sawyer a moment before he swam them both down to get Derek from the bottom of the pool. It took a lot of energy from Stiles, but he just able to keep Sawyer and Derek both above the water while his head continued to dip beneath the surface.

If this were any other time, Sawyer would have enjoyed the way Stiles' arm held his waist tightly to him. He could practically feel every inhale and exhale that Stiles took and he swore that his skin burned beneath Stiles' fingertips in every spot he touched beneath the lacrosse jersey. He'd even take the time enjoy the scent of Stiles' cologne that Sawyer had convinced him to get one day when they were messing around at the mall together. He could even hear the way Stiles' heart skipped a beat from the action, but he only chalked that up to the fact that Stiles was currently holding up a whole other person along with his own body.

No way that Stiles could be feeling anything else at the moment with their close proximity, probably the closest the two had ever been. It just . . . it wasn't possible, was it?

However, Sawyer couldn't focus on that and had to help Stiles try not to drown himself and he mumbled about the diving board on the other side of the pool being a good place for Stiles to bring them. It had a handle  and was a bit shallower so Stiles was hopefully able to stand on his tiptoes or something rather than having to keep kicking to keep them afloat. Stiles didn't argue Sawyer's idea and slowly, but surely got them towards the diving board. Though, before Stiles could save any of them, his hands slipped and all three of them slipped beneath the surface.

Sawyer was only met with nothing but water for a moment before he was suddenly hauled from the pool and propped up against the diving board along with Stiles and Derek. The trio all looked up to see that Scott had leapt up onto the diving board, fully shifted into his werewolf form and let out a spine chilling roar that effectively scared off the creature and sent it away.

For now.

Around twenty minutes later, Sawyer was finally able to feel his toes again, but he still had to lean on Stiles as he felt a bit numb in the knees still. Though, Sawyer wasn't sure if he was numb in the knees from the creature still or from the fact that Stiles held him close. It wasn't even in a romantic way and it still sent Sawyer's heart soaring and pounding in his ears. He could barely hear Scott as he explained to Stiles and Sawyer out in the parking lot that he had been at the Argent's house for dinner ( invited by none other than Gerard Argent himself ) to look for the Bestiary when Allison realized that the book on a flash drive attached to Gerard's keys.

Sawyer had never been more glad to have left keys in the principal's office door in his life and Scott had just retrieved the keys when he heard the creature let out a roar. He'd gotten to the pool just as Stiles, Sawyer and Derek slipped beneath the water. Though, their problems seemed to continue while Scott scrolled through the book on Stiles' open laptop and saw that it was some other language. A language that Sawyer couldn't even make out.

"How are we supposed to figure out what this is if we can't even read it?" Scott growled to himself in annoyance, finger still flicking through the pages on the screen.

"It's called the Kanima."

Stiles, Sawyer and Scott turned around to see Erica and Derek approaching them. Derek looked like he had gotten the full motion of his body back and Sawyer was slowly leaning more and more off Stiles by the minute. Though, a part of him kept him clinging to Stiles just to have the boy hold him for just one more second. He wanted the moment to last just a bit longer.

"You knew the whole time, didn't you?" Sawyer snapped at Derek, blue eyes darkening with anger that Derek had possibly kept the information from him. He had snuck into Gerard's office just to find out that Derek had known the whole time? Now Sawyer wished his body had healed as quickly as Derek's had so he could kick the alpha's ass.

"No. Only when it was confused by its reflection. That's why it backed away from the water."

"It doesn't know what it is," Scott noted.

"Or who."

Stiles sighed heavily at Derek's words, the breath fanning across Sawyer's neck slightly from how the boy hung on Stiles for support. Okay, maybe that was Sawyer still couldn't feel his knees. "What else do you know, Derek?"

"Just stories. Rumors. It's a shape shifter, but it's — it's not right. It's like a . . . "

"An abomination," Sawyer supplied for the werewolf, comparing the Kanima to the beast that was out on the field that night from the other team. It earned him a silent nod from Derek in response, the older werewolf seeming satisfied with Sawyer's description for the Kanima.

However, before Derek could turn and drag Erica away from the trio, Scott called out to him. "We need to work together on this. Maybe even tell the Argents what's going on."

Derek let out a bark of a laugh, his blue eyes darkening with disgust over the thought of involving the Argents. "You actually trust them?"

"Nobody trusts anyone and that's the problem! While we're here arguing about who's on what side, there's something scarier, stronger and faster than any of us, and it's killing people!" Scott ranted to Derek, rambling off all the words in one breath that Sawyer was shocked that Scott hadn't knocked himself out. His chest heaved from the anger that Derek ignited in not only Scott, but Sawyer and Stiles as well. Derek tried so hard to go against Scott that Sawyer knew it'd be his downfall one day. "And we still don't even know anything about it!"

Derek's jaw ticked at Scott's rant and his eyes only darkened more from it. "I know one thing. When I find it . . . I'm gonna kill it."

Sawyer huffed as he watched Derek spin on his heels and storm away from the trio, leaving them behind and alone in the parking lot. Not a single part of him was surprised that Derek had quite literally shot down Scott's offer to join together and get rid of the Kanima together. For them to take down something without making it a big dramatic thing and alerting more people to the fact that the supernatural was real in Beacon Hills.

Sometimes Sawyer really despised the Hales.
