TWENTY WITNESSES CAME, and they were all willing to help the Cullens, well, except for one, Alistair. Evangeline met the man back in the '90s, and the man still has his broody nature. Nothing changed.

Zafrina and Evangeline have the same gift. However, Evangeline's skill is broader than Zafrina's. She can only control what people see. Evangeline can prevent the body and the senses.

"Edward, you didn't tell me your wife's a shield," Eleazar says.

"What's a shield?" Bella asks him, curiously

"The ones I met are so different. It's a defensive talent," Edward answers her. "It's why I couldn't read your mind, even before. It's why Aro couldn't," he adds.

"You have a very powerful gift," Eleazar tells her.

The other witness went outside after they heard that Bella's a shield and Kate being Kate, grabbed Bella's hand.

"Oh, yeah, she's a shield. All alright," Kate says as she lets go of Bella's hand.

"She would be trembling on the ground if she wasn't. It hurts like a bitch" Evangeline says while looking at Kate, and the other blond just smirks.

"Or your voltage has been exaggerated," Garret comments. Kate turns around and faces him, and lifts her palm. "Maybe it only works on the weak."

So Garret walks towards her, his pointing finger at the ready while Carlisle warns him, "Garret, I wouldn't."

He touched her palm, and the electricity went through his body and sent him to the ground. He looks up at her and says, "You are an amazing woman."

Then suddenly, loud footsteps are coming their way. Jasper immediately stands in front of Evangeline, they see two red-eyed vampires sitting on a stone, and Evangeline recognizes them immediately.

"Vladimir, Stefan, you're a long way from home," Carlisle says while looking at them.

"What are they doing here?" Kate asks, annoyed at the fact that these two showed up.

The platinum-blond male looks at them and smirks once he sees the blond woman. "Hello, vampire blondie."

"Vladimir," Evangeline says while rolling her eyes at the nickname.

"You know them?" Tanya asks her.

"Met them in Rome in mid-80s. It isn't exactly pleasant they want me to join their coven," Evangeline tells them with a scoff.

"And the offer still stands," Stefan says with a smirk.

"And you still know my answer, no," Evangeline says with a fake smile plastering her feature.

The two just scoffs, and they proceed to taunt them telling them that the Volturi has witnesses of their own and are clearly surprised.

"When Aro wants someone from a coven, it's never long before evidence turns up, proving that coven committed some crime," Eleazar tells them.

"So, he's done this before?" Bella asks him.

"It happens so rarely, and I never realized it was a pattern," Eleazar continues.

"Apparently, he always pardons one person whose thoughts he claims are repentant," Carlisle says.

Eleazar continues, "This person always has an ability, and they're always given a place with the Guard."

"This is all about Alice. He has no one like her," Edward tells them.

"Which is why she left," Bella says as the realization hits her.

"Why does he need witnesses?" Emmet asks Eleazar.

And Alistair answers him, "To spread the word that justice has been served. After he slaughters an entire coven."

Amun instantly grabs his wife's arm and heads toward the door. "Benjamin, Tia, we're leaving."

"And where will you go? What makes you think they'll be satisfied with Alice? What's to stop them from going after Benjamin next? Or Evangeline, or Zafrina, or Kate, or anyone else with a gift, anyone they want. Their goal isn't punishment, and it's about power. It's acquisition. Carlisle might not ask you to fight, but I will. For the sake of my family, but also yours, and for the way you wanna live," Edward announces to them, and everyone goes silent.

"The packs will fight. We've never been afraid of vampires," Jacob answers on behalf of his pack.

"We will fight," Tanya says while looking at Evangeline, and the blond just smiles at him gratefully.

"This won't be the first time I've fought a king's rule," Garret says with a smirk.

"We'll join you," Benjamin tells them, and Amun immediately disagrees. "No!"

"I will do the right thing, Amun. You may do as you please," Benjamin tries to convince him to let him stay and fight.

"We will stand with you," Senna says.

"So will we," One of the members of the Irish coven says.

Charlotte, Peter, Athena, and Emilio come forward and nod.

"That didn't take much," Vladimir says with a scoff.

"Let's hope it doesn't come to that," Edward says, clearly reading Alistair's thoughts. The man responds, "We'll see," then leaves.
