WHO THROWS A PARTY ON A THURSDAY,  Charlie was going to just stay home, snuggling under her warm fluffy blanket but Moon had seen her talking to the trio of friends and decided that they, being her, Moon and Sam should go. So Sam can get her mind off of boys and Charlie could expand her 'horizons', Moon said that she was too closed in with just the two girls being her friends.

  She was not.

  Yes, she was.

Since it was Wednesday, Charlie had a whole day to mentally prepare for the party. The last one she went to was a disaster and she was unprepared for what was to come. Though Macy had told her it was going to be a 'low key' party, teenagers have a way of making the smallest of things into the biggest drama.

An example, before moving back to California, Charlie's old classmate Danny had started a rumor that her best friend Joe had slept with her crush just to get back at her because she saw Joe glance at him. By the end of the school day, students were writing cruel things on Joe's locker. Joe and some of Danny's friends had no idea who the crush even was.

Teenagers were so dramatic, even thinking this, Charlie feels dramatic.

Charlie was cut off from her inner monologue when her phone started ringing, the caller ID showing 'Sam'. She hit the accept button and put Sam on speaker.

"Hey, it's Moon on speaker! Sam wanted me to ask if you wanted a ride to school. She would ask but she was still getting ready," In the background, you could hear Sam singing along to music, "We know you usually go with Ms. Greenfield but we were going to go to Starbucks and thought you might be interested!"

After two weeks of hanging out with Sam and Moon, Charlie was still surprised when they wanted to hang out with her. When she had first met Sam, Charlie thought the only time they would hang out would be when Robby was there. Growing up after moving, girls or guys didn't really like her. They always thought the way she viewed the world was weird, 'the real world is not sunshine and rainbows' they would say or when they did want to become friends, they would say that she was too clingy, 'why are you following me around the playground?', when all she wanted to do was get to know her new friend.

They even encourage her when making new friends, like with Macy, Theo, and Carter. Sam and Moon are great friends and anyone who say otherwise can face the 5' 1" girl. Charlie may be short and not like violence but she does have a mean left hook.

۪۪۫۫

"—space out again?" Sam asked Moon.

"Yeah, just give her a minute." See, they already knew her habit of spacing out, and they waited. Most people wouldn't.

"Sorry!" Charlie finally replied, sheepishly, "But yes, seriously I need some caffeine right now."

"It's fine honey, it's what friends do!" Moon said in her sweet sweet voice, " We'll be there in like fifteen minutes."

"See you!" Charlie hung up and sat in silence for a few seconds. Fifteen minutes is enough time for her.

  Is it?

Looking at the clock, it read 7:10 AM and school starts at 8:30, Charlie jumped into action.

۪۪۫۫

After telling her mom about Sam picking her up, which was great because her mom was feeling sick and called for a substitute, and finishing up getting ready, Charlie had three minutes left to spare so she decided to write a note to the boy who left her notes by her window seal and to leave him a can of chef boyardee ravioli, not the best but something to get him by.

  to the kicker

It's been a while since I saw you, I hope you aren't getting into more trouble but I know you. Just don't get into trouble that attracts attention. I hope we can see each other again soon.
                                     -the crybaby

When leaving notes they never left their name in case someone found the notes, the names were dumb but necessary. This time she used kicker to address Robby because when they were younger, he would always kick adults who annoyed him in the shins and she used to cry when they would both get in trouble when he kicked the adults. They would only use names the others would understand.

Whenever she would get a note she tried not to think about how much she missed him, more than before when she was away, because he was so close but so far away.

  It's not fair.

For everyone involved, it wasn't fair. For Sam who had to choose between two great guys, for Miguel who was in a coma, and for Robby who didn't want to push Miguel but let his anger get the best of him. It wasn't fair for all three who were against each other because of a stupid decades-old rivalry. If only the dumb old men had left their childish rivalry in the past, maybe, just maybe all three would have been friends from the start.

I'm going to kick both Mr. Larusso and Johnny in the shins next time I see them.

Okay so maybe some violence is alright, especially if it's against old dumb men. Definitely, if it's against them. Because of Robby, it won't be her first time kicking shins, and knowing Robby it won't be her last. Now that she knows Sam, she would totally do that for her too. Something about Robby and Sam just makes her want to protect them even if she has no fighting ability at all.

"Charlie, the girls are here!" Her mom tried to yell out with her raspy voice.

This lady does not know when to rest!

"Mom! What did I say about resting?" Charlie stood in front of her mom with her hands on her hips looking down at her.

Her mother looked up from the couch where she was snuggled in a thick warm blanket while watching Gilmore Girls, wow now she wants to stay home.

"I'm fine, really. Just go before you girls are late and the line is longer than it probably is." Liza waved Charlie away with her hand. Charlie rolled her eyes as she leaned down and gave her mom a kiss on the forehead.

"Love you, baby girl!" Was heard as Charlie locked the door.

۪۪۫۫

Charlie greeted the two girls from the back of Sam's car. Before they took off Moon had given Charlie an invite to a girls' sleepover. It was covered in purple glitter and had her name written in white.

Moon must have made these.

"These are so pretty," Charlie opened the card to examine it more, "Should I bring anything?"

"It's optional but usually my parents provide everything," Moon said as she connected to the bluetooth of Sam's car, "But if you are allergic to anything please let me know, the last girls we invi—"

Sam's cough interrupted Moon from continuing, "Oh god, I still get nightmares."

"Was it that bad?" Charlie's wide eyes looked between them. The girls looked at each other and they both shuddered.

"If you want to be able to eat today, it's best we don't say anything." That was all Moon said. Once they arrived at the coffee shop, which wasn't as that busy, Sam parked in the front lot. Moon had been the one to get off and ordered their drinks. Now it was just Sam and Charlie waiting.

"You know you can say no to going to that party right?" Sam rolled the windows down a bit and turned off her car.

"Yeah I know but you guys are also right, I do need to 'expand my horizons' as Moon said, I can't just depend on you guys forever," Charlie looked down as she started to pick at her fingers, "I mean, who knows I might find the 'one' if I get out there."

For some reason, it felt wrong to say that, finding the one wasn't the first thing on her list, it wasn't even in the top twenty. Right now she just wanted to focus on getting through high school with a stable friend group and help Robby.

"Well, I will be here if you ever need someone." Sam turned from the front seat and gently tapped Charlie's thighs.

Do she and Robby have the same type of girls? Maybe that's why they always got along?

But they didn't even talk about girls when they were that young so how would Charlie know his type?

۪۪۫۫

The two girls continued to look into the eyes of each other, the only reason they broke contact was because Moon had come back with their drinks.

Once Moon had settled in, she took in the tense atmosphere, looking at Sam and then at Charlie in the viewfinder, she asked, "Everything okay?".

Charlie nodded and Sam replied, "Yeah we were just talking about the party."

"Oh my god, I'm so excited. Did you know Macy sai—" Moon's voice faded as Charlie's mind drifted off.

Even though she would never do that to Robby, (that being, liking Sam) are Sam and Robby still together? Whenever she got a note from him, he never mentioned Sam and when Sam would ask if she heard from Robby, Charlie doesn't recall her calling him her boyfriend. It's like they were avoiding their togetherness altogether.

۪۪۫۫

Maybe this isn't the time to dwell on their relationship since it wasn't hers, she was just glad that Sam and Robby were both her friends and that they didn't berate her for having friendships with each other.
