โ•ฐโ”ˆโžคโœง.* IN WHICH

Lily Evans has a dream about James Potter dying and has to go and check if he's alive

James woke in a sweat.ย

Lily's screams still set a fresh jolt down his spine. he felt his breathing go up. She couldn't have died, it was just a dream. He rolled over to the side, trying to go back to sleep, but her dead body came to mind every time he closed his eyes.

He couldn't sleep, not until he knew she was okay.

Quietly, he crawled out of bed, pulling on a shirt and his glasses on his way out. He walked down the pathway connecting their bedrooms, and knocked on hers, as softly as he could.

When he got no response, dread pooled in his stomach, and he pushed the door open. She was lying on her bed, her hands propped over he head. Another feeling joined the dread.

"Lily?" he whispered, going closer to her. Her eyes opened.

"James?" she asked, groggily. "What happened?"

Suddenly self conscious, James ran a hand through his hair. Her eyes followed the movement.

"I had a weird dream" he mumbled.

Lily slowly sat up, and patted a place on the bed in front of her. "You want to talk about it?"

James sat down. "I just.. I don't know. You'd died."

Lily scooted closer to him and wrapped her arms around his shoulders. "Well I'm quite alive" she said into his ear.

The dread had sort of left his stomach, leaving only the other feeling. It intensified.

"Good to know."

She smiled. She dropped a feather light kiss on his cheek, and lay back down. "Goodnight"

James stood up, brushing a finger over the place where her lips had been. "Goodnight Lils"

A quiet knocking dragged James out of his sleep. He reluctantly rose up, and scrambled on the bedside table for his glasses. Slamming them on his face, he called "Come in"

A head of red hair poked in. She sat down at the foot of his bed, refusing to meet his gaze, looking down at the table in his room.

"Lily? Are you alright?" James asked.

She finally looked at him, and then seemed to instantly regret it. Her cheeks colored considerably at the sight of him. James fought the urge to be smug.

"No, James" she said. "After what you said the other day.. I know it was a dream, but I saw Voldemort and.. I think it may be paranoia, but you're still alive right?"

"'Course I am Lils," James said. "It'll take a lot more than a bald egg to kill me."

Lily choked out a laugh, looking up at him with shiny eyes. suddenly he realized she'd been crying. not caring about his lack of clothing, he swiftly moved over to hug her.ย

"C-can I stay here?" she asked, suddenly. When he didn't respond at first, she took it to mean he didn't want her to. how wrong she was.

He wanted interrupt her spiral of an apology by pressing a kiss to her lips, but chose instead to place a hand on her mouth. "Sure" he grinned.

Relief flooded her eyes as she relaxed into him, crawling away toward his pillows. He followed. She curled up into him, and he thought he would burst at the seams because of the pure undiluted joy he was feeling.

He never thought he would have fallen asleep until his eyes were flickering open the next morning. Lily's arm spread across his bare chest and her head was pressed up against his bicep. he soft red hair fanned out across the back of her head. James was so close he could see the smattering of freckles on her face.

He just woke up next to Lily Evans.

He turned as slowly as he could to the clock on his bedside. His heart dropped as soon as he saw the time because it was time for him to leave, unless he wanted to miss his morning run, and then Quidditch.

He tried to get out of bed, but found himself unable to. "No" Lily whispered softly. James was sure she was still asleep.

"What do you mean 'no'"ย  he asked. she didn't respond, so he tried to get up again. Her arm tightened across him.

"No, don't go" she said, her words pressed into his pillows.

That was literally all it took for James to fall back into his bed. "Well if you say so, Evans" he grinned, trying his best to smother the smug monster inside him.

When Lily shifted closer to him, its safe to say he failed.
