It was that day, the day that brought petrifying nightmares to over three thousand souls that were onboard the Titanic.

Everything about that day was carved into my memories. I will never forget their hollers for help when they were swimming to save their dear lives in the cold Atlantic.  The painful cries of the women and children because of the separation of their lovers and fathers, that painful wails will remain inside remembrances until the day of my last breath.

14th April 1912, the Titanic, the Ship of Dreams, the so-called unsinkable queen tragically hit an iceberg, taking more than a thousand five hundred innocent souls' lives with her to the sea bed of the North Atlantic.

But they didn't have a clue about it, it was such a beautiful day just like the past few days. Who would have guessed the horrifying fate they were about to meet?

Those people may not have had a clue about what was ahead of them. Nonetheless, if it wasn't for the overconfidence of the British White Star line, maybe the Titanic wouldn't have made history as one of the biggest catastrophes in the world.

If some people didn't think that more lifeboats on the ship would scatter the deck, more souls could have been saved that night.

For god damn sake, if those first-class imbeciles were more concerned about the risk they might have rather than how scattered the side view of the ship from their cabin window would look like, well perhaps then those people who didn't survive could have a chance to live.

Of course, they didn't care, they would get alive anyway,  they always get passed everything.

The conversation between the crew and the White Star line was getting steamy. The pressure on their faces made the air even more intense.

"This is absurd, we certainly cannot slow down her knots, she's sailing just fine," the tall man said, not even budging to cooperate with the idea.

His snickering laugh of mockery caught the crew members off guard. This man, Bruce Ismay, had only one thing on his mind.

She should go ahead at full speed, she should break all the records, making history.

"She's sailing just fine for now, but if she keeps up this speed it'll be impossible to stir her away from an iceberg even if we spot them sooner" Captain Smith tried to keep his voice as calm as possible. In the last part of the sentence, his voice became intense and firm.  His jaw was clenching because of the withholding anger boiling inside him.

I held Jungkook's hand which was curved into a tight fist. His irritation was painted all over his face.

"She was built to withstand this Edward, you know that as much as I do, please be careful when you raise your voice against me."  he arrogantly ignored the captain's words of warning.

His limitations of patience crossed the red line at that point.  With a loud slam, his fist hit the wooden table, gaining the attention of everyone towards him.

"We are talking about a freaking iceberg sir! do you even hear yourself when you talk? Steering her at twenty-two knots speed is like signing our death wishes!" he breathed heavily after blurting out. His glare was piercing the white star line former chairman's soul.

The room felt like a pin drop silent with the growl of the furious man. I saw his burning fumes, he was sick of trying to convince the men around him who had only this much of a vision about what kind of risk they were beforehand.

"Jeon, I don't appreciate your tone right now-" the man couldn't cease his sentence because it was cut off by another angry yell from Jungkook.

"Appreciate my tone, my foot, we are talking about innocent people's lives" he didn't lessen the drastic voice even a bit from Ismay's words.

Jungkook was angry, he was disappointed about how they didn't see eye to eye with each other about the problem.

"That's enough Jeon," Captain Smith placed his hand on Jungkook, trying to calm him down. This time he took his foot down, only because he couldn't exceed the captain's words which sounded more like a plead at that time.

Jungkook breathed fast, gritting his teeth. He flopped himself next to me, glueing his eyes to the floor with agony.

I couldn't understand why they couldn't see the simplest thing when even I, a local commoner recognized it as a threat.

Careless much?

The captain cleared his throat before speaking up again.

"What Jeon is trying to say is that it is too risky, even though we slow down a few knots we still can reach land the day you assumed, only a few hours will be the delay"

Ismay took heavy steps towards the window.  He walked up and down a few times before joining us at the table again.

"A few hours my good man, is a loss of a thousand bucks each," I couldn't believe my ears.

All he cared about was this stupid record of fame for his ship, after all of the explanations his heart didn't seem to change in the slightest bit.

Captain Smith turned to Thomas Andrews, who was silent during the time.  He seemed like he was diving into deep thoughts. His facial expressions declared the thoughts running inside his mind.

"Andrews, what's your opinion on this?"

He looked up at us.

"The Titanic,  she's unsinkable..." his voice cracked a bit when he talked. Not like arrogant Ismay's mockery voice, Andrew's was low, more delicate than his.

"She is as nearly perfect as human brains can make her." my last hope was shattered by his words.

For a moment I thought that he had the sense to talk about it. But oh boy who were I kidding?

"So you are also saying that it'll be fine?" Captain asked, desiring a more valid response, a more wise one than the other man.

"We may want to reduce one or two knots, just in case"  his voice was quiet, almost a whisper.

A snort full of chuckles added more anxiety to the air.  I turned to see Mr Harper, laughing as if it was some kind of joke to him.

"I don't see the humour here Harper?" Andrews bolted his question at him.

"You all are fools, if there's any risk the warning signal must reach our ship from other ships" he then turned to Jungkook with a smug look on his face.

"Tell me, Captain Jeon, how many have you got so far? You are the one who brought this topic into negotiation," his words strode like piercing daggers.

Jungkook was quiet for a moment.

"None, but- " he bit his lip in frustration as he couldn't beat Harper's words that cut him short.

"You didn't even get a warning signal yet you create such chaos? This is intolerable" My body was fuming from anger. If only I could do the honour of slapping this pretentious man...

Before anyone could continue,  a man barged into the room with a parchment in his hand. He paused for a moment to catch his breath before crying out loud,

"Captain! We got a signal!" he came running towards Jungkook.

Jungkook hastily snatched the paper away from the man with the blue uniform and glanced at him.

"Where is it from? "

"The RMS Caronia, sir! She's reporting of bergs growlers and field ice" A deadly silence ghosted the room.

Jungkook was right all along. And now he got his proof. He turned to Ismay, Andrews and Harper who were struck by astounded by the news. After a minute of silence, Captain Smith was the first to break the ice between them.

"We got a warning,"

"Uhmm," Ismay cleared his throat.

"We'll keep our eye on the wireless signals for now. Tell them to keep updating us" he ordered the man who came running to the room a while ago. Then he turned to us.

"We will maintain her the same speed, it's just one warning and that's not even in her pathway," My eyes widened with unbelief at their insolent act.

"Captain Smith, I like you to take charge of this" Smith's eyebrows knitted with confusion.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that we prefer if this situation can be handled by a more mature one," Ismay said, laying his hawk-like eyes on Jungkook.

Wait, what is he trying to say?

Jungkook's jaw clenched but he didn't speak.

"You simply can't mean that you are banning Jeon from his duty? You have no right to invade the crew management, this is outrageous" Captain Smith didn't dare to tolerate the words of the man.

"I'm not outlawing him, it's like a time-out, until we reach land you should be the one who leads the ship, not him" Ismay pointed his finger at Jungkook who was blankly staring at them.

The amount of fury that made my blood boil was countless. My eyes were burning flames of hostility.

What did he do so wrong? Talking the truth? Was that his crime?

Captain Smith looked in unbelief. He inhaled a deep breath before saying,

"Under two conditions," I flickered at him.

Was he taking their side as well?

"You may present" Harper joined the conversation.  I saw the smile of satisfaction and the pride that dripped down his slithery eyes.

"He remains as the captain of the Titanic, that token won't be taken down. His lockdown of giving commands will be presented only till the ship reaches the lands. "  Captain Smith said with a very stern voice. Other males agreed even though there was a slight reluctance in their act.

"Second is that..." he paused before looking at Jungkook who was quietly and calmly glancing at him, as he was accepting the penalty he was given.

"He should not be involved in any blame if the ship happens to meet any kind of accident. If that happens, he should be out of the responsibility because it's the only way it's fair"

Jungkook's eyes widened as Captain said his final words.

"We agree, it's fair enough " others agreed.

After the three men left the room it was only me, Jungkook and the captain remaining.  I gave them personal space to talk and stepped out to take a deep breath to fill my lungs with fresh air.  My head was spinning with all the episodes that happened.

I felt really bad.

I couldn't bear how those men treated him.

My thoughts shattered as a male voice spoke behind me.

"Miss Park," it was Captain Smith. I offered him a dry look. I wasn't in mind to talk with him.

"You will understand why I did that, you have to promise me something,"  he said taking my hands.  I looked up at him.

"What is it?"

"If this ship ever meets with tragedy,  make sure you live, and keep Jungkook alive. Never let him feel that it was his fault. Don't let him carry the burden do you understand me Y/n?"

"I understand you," but I was still in confusion.

"But why would you do that to him? I still don't understand that part."

"Oh my young y/n, " he squeezed my hands lightly.

"It was the only way I could save him"

"How so?" I abruptly blurted. He chuckled.

"I see why Jungkook likes you...You are a brave girl" he was in a second of silence before he answered me.

"You will understand one day"

It was the only thing he told me. That was the last word I had with Captain J. Edwards Smith. After that moment,  he didn't live to see another sunrise cause he decided to sink with the Titanic.

Damn, that was a long chapter. Do any of you understand why Captain did that? Do you have a clue?

Stay gold lovelies...
