You sat down on the field and observed everyone putting a lot of effort into building their boats for the upcoming Poe Cup. You made the decision not to compete in the Edgar Allan Poe Cup, which is approaching fast. Cindy was eating cashews when she sat next to you. "You alright there?"

"It's just..." You huffed. "A lot has been happening. Wednesday stated she saw Rowan was murdered and then this morning... he was here."

"I guess the Addams girl has lost her mind." Cindy shrugged as she took more cashew nuts in her mouth. "Can't blame her, though. Nevermore drives you insane with all of these activities. I mean, seriously, Poe Cup? What does that have to do with our future?"

You chuckled. "I mean... Poe Cup was the reason how my father became a captain of a ship."

For a minute, Cindy pondered. "That is true."

"Even that I couldn't do because I'm not participating in this activity."

"You're overthinking again."

"It's kinda hard not to lately."

Cindy grasped your hand while sighing and dropping her bag of cashew nuts to the ground. "Again, there's still time to think about your future. Don't rush too much." She gasped when she thought of an idea. "You're sharp-eyed and good with archery, maybe you're future is something about that?"

"Shooting something?" You asked curiously. "I could be a hunter and then my father would disown me."

"Well, what does your father want from you?"

You tensely crossed your arms while wrinkling your brow in disdain when you thought about your father. "To sail across the sea like him is what he wants me to do. Because of his work, he hardly ever speaks to me. He might have also wanted me to study to be a doctor. What do I know about medications? I don't even know what mine is." You ranted.

Cindy rubbed your shoulders to keep you calm. "Okay, chill. He may stop placing so much pressure on you and begin to value you more if you've achieved enough success at the job you genuinely enjoy. No te preocupes, I'll help ya."

"Thank you, Cindy." Cindy swiftly followed after you as you smiled and got to your feet. "I should go. Xavier might kill me if I'm late for the club."

Cindy rolled her eyes. "Please, I think he'll do the opposite if you're late or not."

You knit your brows in confusion and interest at what Cindy was saying, but you shook your head and turned to go. You took a moment to scan your surroundings as you walked on. You were relieved to wake up to a sunny day. The day looks normal.

But it wasn't.

Since Wednesday arrived, everything has been difficult to ascertain, and you are unsure whether she is connected to any of the unclear aspects of your life. Perhaps it was just a coincidence, but even if it was, the timing was awful.

You started to get so absorbed in your thoughts that you missed seeing Xavier come around the corner and head straight for you. You two collided with each other, however, Xavier barely stumbled while you fell hard on the ground. He was so tall that you wanted to despise him.

"Jesus, (Y/n)!" Xavier exclaimed as he instantly assisted you in standing up. "You okay? I was just looking for you."

"Mhm." You repliedΒ while stroking your elbows as they had taken the full impact of the blow. "My elbows kinda hurt."

"Can you participate later in the club? I can take you to the infirmary."

"No!" You immediately told him. "Not there, no. I'm done being in the infirmary. I-I think I can handle a few shots."

"I really don't mind taking you. Besides, it will be just the two of us in the club if you still join. The others are too busy with their canoes and plans for the Poe Cup." Xavier explained. "And maybe Wednesday's stopping over. Principal Weems told us that she's going to decide which club she'll be participating in."

While blinking your eyes, you turned to face him. "I'm in." As you started to make your way to the club, you said, leading a perplexed Xavier in your trail.

The two of you headed outside where you discovered three targets set up, two bows resting beside some hay, and arrows to shoot. A red apple was also seen resting on top of the hay. You snatched your bow off the hay and prepared an arrow while Xavier took off his blazer. By using the bow's string to draw your arm back, you were able to grasp the arrow's tip. Your arm and the arrow were steady as you closed one eye.

Once you were pleased with the angle, location, and aim, you let go of the arrow, and it shot straight toward the target's center. While Xavier took his bow, you lowered yours. "You never cease to surprise me." He commented. "And mind you, you aced that with painful elbows."

You rubbed your elbows together and gave Xavier a playful glare. "Stop reminding me that I'm in pain."

With his bow and arrow in hand, Xavier began to shoot at the other target. He released the arrow once he was in place, and it flew to the blue ring. "Damn it, I thought I had it." He muttered under his breath.

"Does that mean I get the bragging rights today?" You asked, your eyes twinkling in excitement.

"You always get the bragging rights. Why don't you teach me how you do it?"

"How can I teach you when you're tall?"

"Then stop being so small."

"I'm not small! You're just a giant."

"I'm sure this is the archery club and not the couple's club." Wednesday gave you two a strange look when you and Xavier turned to look at her, but it was hard to tell by looking at her face.

Xavier raised his eyebrows. "Huh. You actually showed up." He said. "Ever shot a bow and arrow before?"

"Only on live targets," Wednesday replied, unfazed.

As you sat down next to the apple on the hay, your lips were tightly sealed, and you didn't say a word. Xavier blinked his eyes before moving away. "Okay." He sighed as he took another arrow. "Do you still want me to teach you or...?"

Wednesday glanced at you. "I prefer her." That made you raise your eyebrows. "She's a better shot than you."

Xavier frowned. "Ouch. But true." He sat down near the blocks of hay and gave you his bow and arrow. You took the bow and arrow, skeptical of your ability to impart any expertise to the Addams girl given your belief that she possesses a high level of skill.

"Okay, um..." You started. "First you do a square stance." You firmly planted your feet on the ground while making sure that your legs were spread apart. "Load the arrow like this in your bow, yellow side out. Three fingers." You pulled your bow and arrow and elevated them, aiming them once more at the target you had just shot. "Pull back and..."

You let go of the arrow and it landed in the middle and next to the one you had shot earlier. "...set it free, I guess."

"Not bad," Wednesday commented before looking at Xavier. "When was the last time you saw your roommate Rowan?"

Hearing his name made you a little tense. Although you knew the guy, you were never really close. There were a few words said between the two of you, but that was it. Of course, the fact that Wednesday claimed he had been murdered before coming back the following morning was still shocking. Then, for reasons that are currently unknown, he has been expelled.

"You mean the one who was killed by a monster?" Xavier questioned. "The Harvest Festival. I haven't talked to him since. But his side of the room was all packed up this morning."

You and Wednesday listened attentively as Xavier spoke as you retreated to your previous position close to the red apple on the hay.

"Rowan's always been a little off, but, uh, the last couple weeks he's been more erratic," Xavier continued as he got to his feet, taking the bow from your hands and picking up an arrow. "You know, telekinesis can mess with your head, you know. He's... well, it started to freak me out."

He aimed the arrow at the target he used a minute ago. "So, what's the deal with you and Tyler?" In spite of missing the center, Xavier was able to hit the target as he asked the question out of the blue while he released the arrow.

Wednesday and you both turned to face him right away. Xavier looked over at Wednesday. "Oh, I'm sorry, were you the only one who got to ask non-archery questions?"

"There's no deal," Wednesday answered. "He was doing me a favor driving me out of town."

Xavier lent the bow and arrow to Wednesday. "Yeah, word of advice. Steer clear." He warned.

"Why? Because he's a normie?"

"Because Tyler and his friends are a bunch of jerks," Xavier said out of spite. "They can't stand the fact that this school is the only one propping up their Podunk town."

"Says the boy whose life was served on a silver platter." As Wednesday set up her stance and bow and arrow, she grumbled.

Xavier looked back at Wednesday. "Hey, girls in glass houses..."

"Shouldn't throw bigger stones." Wednesday finished his sentence as she took the apple beside you. "At least I'm not an elitist snob."

Wednesday drew the bow and pulled the arrow while she threw the apple up high in the air and waited for it to drop. She let go of the arrow as it got close and aimed the apple squarely at the middle of the target. Your mouth fell open while Xavier turned his head away. "Ouch."

After giving you and Xavier a brief glance, Wednesday set the bow down next to you and left. You grabbed the bowβ€”forgetting that you already have your own bow close byβ€”before Xavier could even seize it. You took an arrow and quickly shot it at your target, hitting the same center. Feeling no sense of achievement, you pursed your lips.

"Well, that was abrupt," Xavier stated as he took hold of your bow and grabbed an arrow. "You okay?" He asked the identical query that he had earlier.

You hummed in thought, tapping your finger on the bow. "I don't know." You stole the arrow from Xavier's hand and set up the bow and arrow. To increase the arrow's speed, you pulled the string further.

Even though you made an effort to concentrate, all you could think about was Wednesday and Xavier. After you had everything angled, you let go of the arrow and it flew directly toward the first arrow you had used before, splitting it in half.

Xavier's eyes widened to the point where he nearly dropped the bow he was holding. "Okay, Princess Merida. How did you just do that?"

"I don't know." You simply replied as you both continued to look at the two arrows that had been merged.
