𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐞 of the North was a powerful house in their own right. Unlike the other great houses of Westeros that boast of their rich history dating back to Aegon's conquest or even before, House Herondale had only been a small house at that time, but steadily growing its wealth and lands by trading and building relations, especially with the Starks of the North and the Tyrells of the Reach. Soon, it had become one of the most respected houses in the North with their words " Graceful as ice and turbulent as winter. " Those who would belittle the owl on their banners would be in for a rude awakening.

𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 was founded by Morgan Martell, an Andal adventurer who settled between the mouth of the Greenblood and the Broken Arm during the coming of the Andals to Dorne. Morgan led the defeat of the local First Men, including Houses Wade and Shell, establishing his rule over a strip of land fifty leagues long and ten leagues wide. At the time of the arrival of the Rhoynish warrior queen Nymeria, around 700 BC, the lands of the Martells were dwarfed by those of House Yronwood. Mors Martell, the Lord of the Sandship, saw an opportunity in the arrival of the Rhoynar, and took Nymeria to wife. Combining their strength, the two managed to unite all of Dorne under their rule in Nymeria's War.

𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐧𝐞 is one of the most ancient houses in the Seven Kingdoms, claiming First Men ancestry dating back ten thousand years to the dawn of days. The first Dayne is said to have raised Starfall on an island at the mouth of the Torrentine, having tracked a falling star there and found a stone of magical powers. His descendants became Kings of the Torrentine and Lords of Starfall. Along with the Fowlers and Yronwoods, the Daynes were among the most powerful and prestigious houses of ancient Dorne. The Daynes are also famed for Dawn, their ancestral sword made from the fallen star, and the men who wield it, the Swords of the Morning.

𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐤 was founded by Brandon the Builder, a legendary figure who lived during the Age of Heroes and an ancient house claiming First Men descent. Bran the Builder is said to have raised Winterfell, the seat of the Starks, and the Wall, and other legends connect him with Storm's End and the Hightower. The Starks were Kings of Winter in the north for eight thousand years since the Age of Heroes, possibly beginning with Bran the Builder.
