Jayla pressed the gun harder against Novas skull with a smirk as Nova continued sobbing where she stood.

"N-Nova. What are you talking about?" I asked her desperately as she didn't speak, she only cried out in agony.

"Shit. I'll say it for her!" Jayla huffed in frustration, "She was a weapon. Agent 626... Built to destroy people's lives, homes, commit several murders of innocent people.." Jayla told it as if it were an inspirational story. She looked at Nova with a smile.

Wait what?

"You're lying!" I claimed as Jayla sucked her teeth and rolled her eyes.

"Seriously dude?! Are you that slow?" She asked me as I stared at Nova, her eyes were blood shot red and irritated. "She must have you mind controlled, brain washed... you love her!" She said like it was barely a revaluation.

"Of course I do." I spat.

"Riiiiight!" She dragged out as she paced around a bit, "so you get him to fall in love with you and then you destroy his life! It's quite genius actually. I feel bad I haven't thought of it." She said talking to Nova as her body looked like it had been shaking from all her crying.

"Jayla, you're insane. Is this about us? I'm sorry that I didn't love you-" I said trying to calm her down as she eyed me angrily her face turning serious.

"This isn't about us. It's about her!" She yelled, "Why are you doing this?" I asked her pleading as she rolled her eyes.

"I'm not doing anything. If anything you should be thanking me. For revealing who she really is." She said as I looked at Nova. This whole time she hasn't been saying anything. No words of denial, like she'd been accepting it.

"Nova. What is she talking about?" I demanded as she looked at me. "I'm sorry Brandon. I'm sorry. I tired to tell y-you." She choked on a couple more tears.

"Tell. Me. What?"

"That... that night when I said I was bad... I meant it.. Brandon I'm sorry. I tried to stop this. I did.." she said as I thought back to the night. She kept saying she was bad or that she was evil. But Nova wasn't evil shes the best person I know.

"Stop what?!" I demanded tired of the riddles playing in my head.

"The end of the world." She said grimly with a serious expression, "this... it wasn't supposed to go this way..." she said solemnly.

"Why don't you tell him the story." Jayla said as more of a demand then suggestion as Nova stared at me.

"No wait!" I shouted, "this doesn't make sense at all! If you... you killed all these people... which is I-impossible... what does that have to do with me?" I asked her hesitating to speak. I don't believe anything Jayla was saying but if it were possible it still doesn't make any sense.

"You... you were too close to uncovering the truth.." she said, tears still falling down her face, "I was... they told me I had to get rid of you before it got out." She said sobbing as I stared at her with anger.

"You've been lying this whole time!?" I asked through gritted teeth staring at her with bloodshot eyes. She shook her head. "Wait... I remembered that night.. the night I met you." I said as she looked at me looking sorry.

BRANDON

The lights blared like a heart beat, going on and off as the warning sounds surrounded me from everywhere. I quickly looked around at my fellow workers evacuating but something didn't let my feet move.

My eyes wandered down to the papers that were inside my hands. I was so close to uncovering the mystery. I just had to hand this is to someone in charge like the government or at this moment really anybody.

It was until the building started to crumble that I finally moved my feet, pushing myself as far as I could go. The red lights shone on the rims of my glasses as I quickly caught my breath letting out low pants. I still held the papers tightly in my hands as I looked for a way out.

I let myself take a couple more breaths before I began running again. I saw some of my co-workers running ahead of me into a stairwell as the walls began to shake vigorously. I looked down at the manilla folders in my hands, some of the papers trying to rush out.

I looked at the elevator that was not so far from me and the distance between me and the stairwell. I knew of course I couldn't trust taking the elevator but the stairwell was all the way across the hall. I was unsure i'd make it and if I didn't my life's research would all be for nothing.

The ground underneath me began to shake harder and it made me unstable. The sounds of the blaring were barely heard at this point because of the sounds of the building falling apart.

I kept running and finally the last of his associates that I'd spoken to over the years rushed to the steps.

I was still too far. They had to know the truth, what I found.

I screamed until my throat burned and swelled, "WAIIIIIIIT!" I shouted as loud as I could before waiting, but nobody came back for me, "please..." I said in a whisper as anger could be seen in my eyes.

If things weren't bad enough, the papers started toppling out from the side of the manilla folders. They blew briefly on the floor before I rushed to pick them up. Once I finally do I stared at the ripped and dirty pieces of papers in my hands.

"An odd creature was found. It was said that this very creature might not be from Earth. You guess right, ALIENS! Now some people don't believe this myth but the ones who do know the woman was not by herself. She was working with a scientists. That isn't the last of the story though, they had a hybrid daughter. But not one person know where she is..."

"The government likes to lie to us to make sure the human population doesn't freak out but after all these years we may have found something they don't want us to see... 17 years ago a woman came onto this planet from another and had a baby with a man from Earth. There was word that they had a child that was hidden by Area 51. She's been seen multiple places, using her unidentified powers..."

The paper I wrote, two years ago.

I looked at the small paper thinking back to when I first revealed the secrets of Area 51. But I couldn't focus on that anymore either because there were cracks in the walls and all throughout the ceiling. Dust began to fall from the ceiling as it covered me but I didn't stop running holding the papers close to me.

I got closer and closer, ignoring the loud sounds of the alarm and finally reaching the door to the stairs. I looked at the papers one last time, hoping I'd make it out and so would the secret. I was so close this whole time and I finally cracked the case.

I let out a final breath, resting the palm of my hand on the handle of the stairs before a figure neared me. I didn't think to panic as it got even closer, until its eyes glowed and it motioned to the ceiling above me that suddenly collapsed onto my head.

"So... so you were the reason I was in that position in the first place?" I snapped with rage although my tears came even stronger. She was the only constant in my life, the only thing I could trust, the only person I loved.

"Noooo actually that was me!" Jayla shouted with glee as if she were winning some type of award for all of it. "I crashed a rocket into NASA but she.. she did the rest."

"The rest?"

"I... i was ordered to..." she trailed off but didn't finish her sentence.

"ordered to what?..." My voice was in a low whisper, I was tired or yelling. My throat was exhausted and I was tired, I felt like giving up.

"To kill you." She said trying not to look at me but I insisted that she did, stepping closer to her only for Jayla to eye me.

"W-What?"ย  I asked her as she started crying again.

"Brandon... I didn't.. I didn't know you then. I-I didn't know I was going to fall in love with you.." she sobbed stuttering between her crying.

I felt sick, nauseous. I couldn't find the words to describe the empty feeling inside of my chest. I was lied to. It hurt more than anything, I stood there staring at her crying. I hated her. I hated her so much but most of all I hated myself because I still cared about her. I couldn't live with myself if Jayla pulled the trigger...

"Why?" I said coldly as Nova choked back tears.

"Because. Of your research."

"My research..?" I asked as she nodded. "What does that have to do with anything? That was just something I was working on.." I lied as she looked at me, Jayla sending me a sadistic smile.

"Do.. do you remember the baby? The baby between the guy and the-the woman they claimed was from another planet?" She asked as I nodded.

"Yeah.. I do.." I admitted, "But I never found out who it was. The last time I worried about it was before the crash." I told her as she took a deep breath in and then looked at me.

"It was me.. I was the baby." She told me as I gasped under my breath. "When they found out that you knew.. they wanted to kill you. But I offered to do it, I offered to go because I thought maybe you knew my mom and dad. I was never.. I was never going to hurt you, I swear!" She cried as I could feel myself cry too the tears making their way down my face as I tried to hold it in.

"How? How can I believe you after all of this?" I asked as a loud tired sigh came from Jayla.

"You guys are sooooooooo boring. I thought this would be more interesting but y'all are just upsetting." Jayla said dramatically as she pulled Novas hand behind her back and pressing the gun harder on her head.

"Please... wait.. I need to tell him what happened." Nova whimpered begging Jayla as she rolled her eyes, "you have ten minutes." Jayla said as Nova bit her lip and looked at me.
