...AND THAT THERE. The girl strangling Pope...yeah, that's Juniper — or Juno if you're JJ. She's our diamond in the rough. When she's not interning at her dad's law firm, working at her uncle's restaurant with Kie, making friendship bracelets or boring tourons with her conspiracy theories, she's, well, with us. We call her our pogue pigeon. She's the heart and soul of the cut and actually one of the nicest people I know. I met her a year before meeting Pope, and she's been stuck with us ever since.

June's a total freak of nature and I mean that in the best way possible. We all love her — some more than others — she's like this pretty little bird you'd want to protect from all the bad parts of the world (hence the pigeon nickname). I think that's why her art is so good, because she chooses to see the good in everything. Did I mention she's an artist? Yeah, her art is all over the Chateau, it's crazy. One day she's gonna have her own art gal-

         JUNIPER CARRERA WAS EVERYTHING you wanted in a close friend. She was a total freak of nature and a legit conspiracy theory obsessor. But she was also brutally honest, outgoing, vulnerable, funny, compassionate, determined, and she brought life to any party. These were all things JJ Maybank had noticed over the years.

Everyone knew JJ held Juniper on this pedestal with a golden halo looped around her curly head. With every little move she made, JJ fell even harder. He loved how protective she was of him, how she'd laugh at all his jokes, how they could stay up all night together in a comfortable silence and how she'd sneak him food from her uncle's restaurant.

JJ wasn't sure what love truly was, but he knew he felt his chest tighten when she was hurt or when he saw her with someone else. He knew he felt his heart race and his palms clam up when she was around or touching him. He knew that no matter what was going on in his life, when she was around, he was smiling.

But JJ also knew that the girl, since the day she met them, had a crush on the Routledge boy. He knew her heart fluttered at the sound of his name and her knees weakened every time he entered a room.

JJ knew that.

He didn't like it, but he knew it.

But the only thing he didn't know was if she felt the same. And it drove him insane.

Juniper loved the blonde pogue and cherished every moment with him. Of course, she'd thought about them in that way once or twice when they first met but she figured he just liked the chase. She wasn't sure what would happen if he'd actually gotten the prize. Would he keep it or get bored with it? Would he be done and go find the next best thing?

Juniper would rather have him as a friend than nothing at all. And that's what she needed from him.

Friendship.

He was the only person that could make her laugh when she'd been crying or was just angry at the world. He was the only one who would sit with her when she was in one of her moods. He was the only one who actually understood her and her thought process. The only one who would walk her home at night and be there in the morning even though he knew her dad didn't like him.

And the only one that, no matter what, would always be there for her.

He was the only one. And in another life, he would be the one. But, in her eyes, she didn't want to ruin something special. So, he was her friend and nothing more...

But friends don't look at friends that way.
