As most inhabiting an outside world would likely think differently, Daemons are, in all actuality, the physical manifestations of a human soul. To the humans of the new world of New Canada, they simply see and sense them as souls within an animal form. But regular domesticated pets and wild animals sense a human instead of another creature.

Daemons are able to hold different intuitions to their humans and reveal emotional responses to their surroundings that might not otherwise be obvious in their humans. They share the same dreams, as well as often the same thoughts, and they can communicate with their human through verbal and non-verbal means. However, a Daemon is only visible to the eyes of other humans merely due to the fact that the human is allowing another to look upon their Daemon. Humans do have a choice in whether or not they want another to see or talk to their Daemon. True outsiders that are not native to New Canada are unable to see Daemons by default as they have no knowledge on the magic that comes with the technique of seeing a Daemon.

To those who are perhaps not New Canada born, Daemons would seem like creatures consisting of unknown species. Mythological species, even. To the unedcuated mind, it would prove rather easy to mistake a Daemon for, say, a dragon, pegasus, chimera, and so forth. Due to this thought, Daemons are also viewed by outsiders as dangerous and 'of the devil'. However, that is not necessarily the case. Daemons take the form of animals that were and are known to exist at some age in time. From the smallest of insects-- yes, even insects, to a massive wild beast such as a moose or tiger(or bigger-), Daemons come in all shapes, forms, breeds, and sizes.

โ–ช Life Cycle โ–ช

When a human child is born, their Daemon immediately appears on earth in the form of some infant animal. It is then that two souls forge together in one sacred and powerful bond. A human and Daemon literally share a lifeline. They will carry out an entire life together until the end of their days.

The naming of a Daemon is not done by a child's parents or the child itself when it is older, but by the Daemons belonging to the child's parents. During the childhood of a human, from infancy to around the maturing age of eighteen, Daemons shapeshift through a variety of different forms. Reasonings for such behavior could simply be due to emotion, the need for a certain skill such as night vision, or just plainly on a whim. Frequent changes of form throughout a human's childhood is said to be an exceptional indicator of a child's level of intelligence.

When children reach the age of eighteen, their Daemons finally come to settle in a permanent form. Normally, a Daemon's permanent form is a representative of features of the human such as personality, occupation, status, or perhaps even physical attributes. It is a rare occasion when a Daemon represents each listed factor and they normally belong to those of exceptional high status.

As the life of a human and their Daemon are forged to one, they are able to feel what the other is feeling in terms of happiness, sorrow, and pure anger. If a human dies, their Daemon does as well, immediately disappearing into dust. If a Daemon is killed, their human will drop dead right then. One quite literally cannot live without the other. This very idea applies to pain as well. If a Daemon is hurt, then their human feels the exact pain and vice versa. If a Daemon, for example, were to be pinned by another Daemon, the human would literally collapse and could not get back up. They would appear to be struggling under nothing.

โ–ช Gender โ–ช

A person's Daemon is normally the opposite gender. It is quite uncommon, yet not unheard of however, for a Daemon to be of the same gender.

It is not entirely the fact that a human and their Daemon are 'attached at the hip', because they are not-- it is the fact they are quite literally attached at the soul, that keeps the two within a reasonable range of each other. A Daemon cannot venture too far from their human and vice versa.
Let me know you've read this far by commenting your favorite flower. If this happens, then both parties will experience some form of dull chest pain at first and the more distance created, the more the pain grows and emotions such as gloom, despondency, and desolation become present in both human and Daemon. The two beings are each other's literal life source and separation of extreme long distances basically cause forms of depression on both ends.

As for some examples on distance limitations...

When inside a building or large house, the two can separate in terms of being within different rooms at the same time on opposite ends of whatever structure it is without any problems. A human or Daemon can separate down to another block in a city or town but any further would be pushing the limits.

Small Daemons are vulnerable in this situation as it could be snatched up and run with at any given time, which would put both Daemon and human in emotional and physical danger.

Whenever a human consumes any form of alcoholic beverage to the point of intoxication, their Daemon also becomes inebriated. However, in regards to any sexual feelings and pleasure exchanged between humans, Daemons are not effected in any form.

Like any other culture, there are things that are deemed acceptable and others that would prove to be offensive in the culture of Daemons.

Firstly, although a Daemon comes in the form of an animal, be it wild or domesticated, they are not to be mistaken for the actual soulless and voiceless creatures of the world. Daemons are not categorized as 'pets' and are highly likely to take offence at being referred or talked to as such. They are very distasteful and resentful toward actual wildlife and domesticated pets, despite most looking exactly like them. Daemons' intellect is going to be as low or as high as their humans, seeing as a Daemon is a strong representation of a human's personality.

A Daemon is able to choose whether or not they want to be seen by any other eyes that do not belong to their human, who also has this ability.

It is considered extremely taboo for a human to touch another human's Daemon. Often when this occurs, the human whose Daemon has been touched will immediately feel a strong sense of utter repulsion. This is normally the case when two humans are strangers, mere acquaintances, or complete enemies with a burning dislike for each other already premade. The only exception to this concept is when people touch each other's Daemons out of love; a fond stroke or embrace even. Normally two humans must be very close friends or lovers for their Daemons to accept a foreign touch.

In New Canada, within the Syndicate Academy, once a child turns eighteen years of age and completes their sixth and final year of training, a form of 'graduation' ceremony is held that consists of a small ritual. This purpose of the ritual is to finally settle the children's changing Daemons into their permanent forms. Tell me your favorite food. This is quite possibly the only true time the Minister will pay a visit to the Academy, as he is the only one who can settle the Daemons into their final forms.

The code is to be placed in the comments. Guys, I'll know if you didn't actually read, anyway.
