infested city streets. ╱ season one, episode two.

GEORGIA WALSH HAD a habit of going against her better judgment since she had been put in the hands of her father. There was always a part of Georgie that made her go against anything her father wanted for her. She pulled and pulled at their relationship like a string, waiting for the tension to finally snap it apart. She never enjoyed her father's company, he had always been someone who popped in and out of her life when he pleased. Her mother had been the only stability that she had for most of her life.

It had always been the two from the time she was born all the way until she was ten years old. They were each other's best friends, two peas in a pod. They had no other family left than each other. They were alone in a world full of uncertainty. Georgie was heavily influenced by her mother's genuine kindness and softness. Often the people around them commented how Georgie was just a younger version of her mother. But that wasn't exactly true. There was something darker stirring around in the depths of her brain. That part of her always seemed to lay dormant, but Georgie knew it was there. It was the impulsive and erratic part no one could ever explain. She desperately pushed that part down as much as she could, but it all changed when she met the person who caused those uneasy traits.

Meeting the person behind her last name was something that altered her perception of people forever. From a young age, she knew that the man had deserted her mother when he found out she was pregnant. Georgie never could quite understand how a person could be so cruel, just to leave someone in their time of desperate need. It was selfish and disgraceful, when she learned the truth she no longer asked about her father. She knew exactly what kind of man he was, and she wanted nothing to do with him. But when she was ten years old the man had wandered into her life, yearning to make up for his ten-year disappearance.

But even when her mother begged her to let him in, Georgie resisted with everything in her. The stubbornness was yet another attribute she had gained from him. She hated noticing those things, she hated that she had any part of him in her. It disgusted her. From a young age, she had promised her mother that she would never hate someone, the only thing she should do is love. But it felt so wrong to forgive and come to love someone who ran away like a complete coward. So she hated him on the inside, only bothering to give him fake smiles and surface love that never meant anything to her. The man was none the wiser.

Georgie was grateful that the only time she had to endure his presence was twice a year when she had to go visit him and his family during two weeks of her summer break. And for the rest of the year, she would only dread those two weeks and practically beg her mother not to make her go. But the woman only smiled as she patted her head, telling her that she should appreciate that he wanted to be a part of her life. But Georgie never wanted to appreciate it, and she never will.

Georgie was always able to stomach the two weeks, but as she got older things changed. And those two weeks became a permanent stay in King County, Georgia. When she was thirteen, she learned her mother was diagnosed with stage four cancer. That was the day all the light in her life was snuffed entirely out. She had lost the sole person she depended on most. She felt guilty that she didn't see it sooner, she should've noticed the signs, and she should've known her mother was sick. But the older woman made it a priority to never show her daughter her pain. Up until the diagnosis, that was the point where she couldn't hide it any longer.

Georgie changed as she watched her mother whither away, day by day, the woman became sicker and more frail. It pained Georgie to watch her mother's brightness fade into a dim flicker, there were no more grins of happiness and laughs, only sad smiles and waiting for the final day to come. The only thing that came from Georgie was tears as they dripped down her cheeks. Her life was crumbling around her as she watched the life fade from her mother's eyes.

Things that were once important to her became meaningless. Her social life became unimportant. Friends were no longer sticking around as Georgie unintentionally isolated herself. The constant feeling of heaviness, loss, and pain seeped into her skin like ice-cold water. She didn't care, nothing mattered to her anymore and she didn't know how to find the light she had lost. The moment she witnessed her mother take her final breath felt like an out-of-body experience. Feeling her mother's weak hand finally fall from her grip was something Georgie will never forget. That moment brought the darkness Georgie was desperately trying to fight against. The black void swallowed her whole. She could hear the nurses and doctors flood around her, but she couldn't focus on anything but the darkness finally consuming her. And it only got worse from then on.

Georgie packed up her entire life and moved in with her father. The people around her could tell the girl they knew was no longer there. Georgie became numb to everything around her since she left her mother's hospital room. Time flew by, and Georgie felt like she was watching someone else's life through her eyes. Her father's friends and family became her normalcy as she tried to get accustomed to life in King's County. But nothing ever felt quite right. Not until she was introduced to the Grimes family.

For the longest time, Georgie had nothing but darkness swarming around her like a thick fog. But then she found herself greeting the small family. There was something about them, there was this light that reminded her of her mother. The familiarity of them made Georgie become brave enough to step out of the blackness that once consumed her. They were an integral part of her recovery and she thanked them every moment she could.

Her father couldn't believe his eyes as he watched the quiet girl he had been accustomed to grow into a spitting image of her mother. There was a resentment that festered in him, knowing that his best friend and his family pulled her out of the depression she was struggling with.

Georgie had finally felt like she belonged since she had gotten here, the eldest Grimes' child Hayden, quickly became her new friend. People never understood how someone who completely embodied the word sunshine was able to be friends with such a cynical boy.

But Georgie never listened to them, she didn't care that Hayden always had a frown etched on his lips, or was seconds away from snapping at someone. She loved Hayden for exactly those reasons, and she knew the brunette had a soft spot for her the moment they started getting to know each other. Even if he never showed it. The eldest Grimes child felt a need to protect the girl made of sunshine, knowing how people would try to take advantage of her kindness. Georgie was grateful for the constant company of her newfound friend and she loved how accepting the family was.

Hayden was special to her. She knew he had been through a lot just as she had. While he was apart of the Grimes family, he still at times felt like a castaway. He was only meant to stay with his uncle for a few months as his mother was in rehab for her unfortunate pill addiction. He was always taking care of his mom, from such a young age he was in charge of himself. His mother was often passed out on the couch in another universe, so he would have to cook his own meals and do everything his mother was supposed to do for him. But the resentment he felt for his mother for most of his life stopped the moment he found her convulsing on the floor.

She survived but was shipped to rehab quickly after, and that left Hayden to be shipped off to his uncles for the time being. And then he was miserable. He hated the town, he hated how happy everyone was or tried to be. They all just seemed to fake, scared to step into the light for just a second. That was until he met Georgie. She was different from them, she had baggage weighing her shoulders down but she took it with grace. But he avoided her at first. Trying to dodge their every interaction. She was too nice despite all she had gone through. He could see the hurt constantly swirling in her eyes, but she pushed through it trying to make the better of her situation. Because of his family. They helped her.

Which made her stick around more. Hayden hated how much she became a staple of the Grimes household. And he especially hated that he liked her. He hated how she interjected herself into his life without permission. But he knew she needed someone other than just her father, so he pushed down his slight distaste for her and returned her kindness with curtesy. But it didn't take long for him to begin to want her around more and more. To suck up any sunlight she could give to him.

The grimes family was a nice a nice break from Georgie's father's constant demands. After knowing Georgie, many were surprised by how she interacted with her father. The two were constantly at each other's throats, with him demanding something from her and Georgie fighting back every one of his requests. It was clear that Georgie disliked her father and his approach to parenting, and Shane hated how much Georgie pushed back on any little thing he said. He was the single person that Georgie didn't let walk all over her.

She never wanted anything from him, he was just the person she had to live with. And their relationship never changed. Even when the world around them began crumbling down at their feet, Georgie never let that man think of himself as her actual father. They were simply just stuck together, and that's how Georgie needed it to be. She could never let him be her father, because, in her new world, she couldn't stand to watch her parents die in front of her again.

THE CROWDED CITY street seemed more daunting to Georgie as the dead wandered below her. It was no longer filled with the average city bustle but instead littered with the dead coming back to life. Georgie desperately tried to reflect on the decision that brought her to this moment as she overlooked the mobbed streets. She felt stupidity seep into her skin as she realized what her fate would become. She hated that her father was right. This was such an impulsive decision and it was about to cost her life.

This run was supposed to be quick, Glenn had assured them that it would be. But of course, Georgie's luck always has a habit of running out. She made a few months into the end of the world, and look where that got her. She would end it by getting ripped apart by the vile creatures below. She couldn't help but feel annoyance towards her father, hearing his piercing "I told you so" echoing through her ear even if he was miles out of town at the quarry.

This couldn't be how it ended, it just couldn't. She gripped the ledge in front of her, taking a moment to herself, trying to breathe out the pure panic that laced her lungs. But it didn't work, nothing could stop the waves of fate washing over her. Everything was going so well, too well.

They got everything that they needed and were about to make their way out of the infested city. But of course, something had to deter their plan. And who knew it would be some stupid guy shooting up the streets near them? Of course, Glenn being the savior he is, was immediately sprinting off to help the man who had found his way into a tank in the middle of the street with rotters crowding around it.

Georgie couldn't help but think the man was a lost cause. She was so close to voicing her opinion, but she knew Glenn would never listen. So she sat idly by with the others as they waited for the older boy to come back with the mystery idiot. Being in this world, it felt so hard to make any innocent decisions anymore, they couldn't just save people left and right, because it could lead to a bad result. It could be something that they would never come back from, and that thought haunts her.

Waiting for Glenn to come back was excruciating, the thought of him not returning made her sick to her stomach. Glenn had become one of her close friends since they found him not even three months ago. His nerdy charm and kind heart made it easy for Georgie to gravitate towards him. Even in the short time that they had become friends, Georgie had felt like she had known Glenn her whole life. At times, he felt like an older brother. He meant a lot to her, and she knew that would never change. She would fight for him and she knew he would do the same for her.

So when she heard the consistent gunshots on the street below, she booked it off of the roof and down the million flights of stairs. Her heart pounded as she thought of the commotion below. Most of the group resided on the main floor the moment Glenn left to retrieve the man. She could hear the panicked chatter from most of their group and she could feel it when she entered the backroom of the department store they were held up in.

"Is Glenn close?" Georgie questioned, her soft yet exasperated voice caught the attention of the four people in the room.

"We're waiting for his signal," T-Dog replied as he tightened the strap of his chest plate.

"This whole thing so stupid," Andrea complained, her fear of the situation shining through her tone. "This stunt is going to get us killed."

"Or it could save someone's life." Jacqui offered, her words gave a slight optimism to the situation, the kind that most of them didn't bother to say.

"I'm back, got a guest. Plus four geeks in the alley."

Subconsciously Georgie's hand snapped to her knife that rested in the sheath attached to the belt of her jeans. Nervousness spilled through the air, making it slightly hard for air to get sucked into Georgie's lungs. She stood idly by watching the older men dash out the door, covered head to toe in body armor and weapons grasped tightly in hand.

She could hear the impact of Morales' bat echo through the air as he swung and swung on the biter, even if he was out of sight. The squelching of the violent hits made Georgie cringe, the noises being so visceral. Glenn's voice came shouting through the attack, as he led the man towards the open door.

The young girl felt a panic knowing that this strange man would be in her vicinity. She had no idea who this man was, or what he was capable of. As she heard the thumping footsteps of the two men, she quickly regretted not stopping Glenn from saving him. The uncertainty of the situation made her anxiety run strong in her veins.

But the moment the two men burst through the door, the girl froze in place. Once the girl's eyes fell on the man, any air in her body was immediately taken away. It felt like time had frozen still, and everyone around her began moving very slowly. She felt like her heart completely halted in her chest, with her face falling in shock, she couldn't help but stare at the man. Georgie felt like she had seen a ghost, a man who she thought was dead, was here, right in front of her.

She thought Rick Grimes died long ago, back when the world went down. But here he was, gulping air like he had never breathed before. She almost let out a laugh seeing him sporting his sheriff's deputy uniform, but she couldn't bring herself to let any noise slip past her lips. Chaos instantly ensued as the door shut behind T-Dog and Morales. Andrea couldn't help her anger bubble over, as she immediately pointed her gun directly at Rick, a look of pure hatred and fear in her eyes. While people around Georgie began yelling at Andrea to put the gun down, the young girl stood behind them all, just staring at the man in uniform.

There were so many thoughts running in her head, of the how or why he showed up here. He looked exactly the same as she last saw him conscious of the world. The person who once accepted her as his own was right in front of her. She thought she had lost him, but he was right there. Georgie couldn't help the happiness, relief, and shock. A surprised cry escaped her lips as she raised a shaky hand to her lips, the noise caught Rick's attention and his eyes jumped to her.

"Rick?"

All voices froze at the sound of Georgie's voice, and all of them slowly turned to her in return. The man in question flashed with a million emotions at once, the slight fear on his face faded away when he saw the teen. "Georgie?"

"You're alive?" The girl said in amazement, her voice cracking lightly. A few tears were running down her cheeks as she hurriedly made her way toward the man.

"I am." Rick let out a shocked laugh at the feeling of the young girl wrapping her arms tightly around his torso. There was such a relief that flooded his bones the moment his eyes fell upon her familiar face, he worried he would never see his family again, but seeing Georgie gave him hope. "Lori...Carl...Hayden...do you know where they are?"

Georgie let go of him, letting out a happy laugh as she wiped away her tears. She nodded instantly, giving him a genuinely relieved smile, "My dad, he got us all out. They're at the camp, we're just outside of the city."

"Georgie..." Glenn broke through their reunion, lightly grabbing her shoulders and pulling her away from Rick. "Maybe we shouldn't tell him-"

"Tell him what? Where his family is?" Georgie snapped back, her tone surprising all of the people around her. Glenn opened his mouth to apologize, but the girl cut him off. "Rick's not a stranger, he's family."

The girl turned around to see a grateful smile resting on the man's lips, and just as she went to speak to the man again, Andrea's voice echoed through the supply room. "Yeah well, your family just got us killed."

The whole energy in the room dropped completely, as they all took in her words. Georgie's light-hearted feeling that thudded in her chest, was now gone, replaced with reality of their situation. Rick looked around at the others around him, "I don't understand,"

"Look, we came into the city to scavenge supplies. You know what the key to scavenging is? Surviving." Morales was quick to grab him by the shoulders, leading him down the hall and toward the storefront. "You know the key to surviving? Sneaking in and out, tiptoeing. Not shooting up the streets like it's the O.K corral."

As they walked into the department store, Georgie's eyes widened at the group of biters that lay just outside the locked glass doors. T-Dog's voice interrupted her terror-filled thoughts, "Every geek for miles around heard you popping off rounds."

Andrea looked between T-Dog and Rick, "You just rang the dinner bell."

"Get the picture now?" Morales questioned, his tone showing how frustrated the man was.

Georgie's eyes couldn't leave the amount of biters that were trying to fight their way in. Her heart pounded heavily in fear at the thought of them breaking through. And her fears were quickly solidified as she watched one of the dead come barreling to the door with a rock in hand. Smashing the stone again and again into the plexiglass, cracks and breaks spider-web through the door. It wouldn't be long until the dead break through. They have to make sure that they aren't there when it happens. But the only question is...how?

HEY LOVEYS!!!! FIRST CHAPTER!!!

not Georgie's reunion with rick! girlie is out her spilling the beans abt his family, but as she should.

I'll dive more into the dynamics of Georgie's relationships with characters as they come up. Her dynamic with rick will be more detailed in the chapters to come.

Also I'm so excited to write abt her and Glenn's dynamic because I just love the best friend/big brother and little sister vibe they have going on.

There are so many dynamics that I'm pumped to write about, especially her and Shane's relationship. because the way they butt heads is literally perfect. I'm obsessed with her hatred for her own father because same, I also hate her father.

You all will meet actually meet Hayden in time, but I'm so excited for you to meet him. and I will PREFACE this, as mentioned before Hayden is NOT Rick's son, he is his nephew. Their relationship will be interesting to write out because of how the book is going to go.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: the book will be a little over the place, and it's for the sake of the plot trust me. So act one will be season one and two and act two will be season six-eight so there will be a significant time jump, so bare with me and see what happens.

I was originally just going to start the book in season six but I thought the back story of the characters would be interesting and important to their characters in season six and on. So act one is used as more of a flashback moment and for you guys to understand who the characters were.
