Hideaki Izuki

Hideaki Izuki (Japanese: 珠 秀秋 Izuki Hideaki) was previously a third-year student at Karasuno High. He was one of the boys' volleyball club's wing spikers and it's ace. As of 2018, he is married to his childhood friend, Tōru Oikawa, changing his name to Hideaki Oikawa (Japanese: 及川 秀秋 Oikawa Hideaki). As of 2021, he is a member of Argentina's National Team and participates in the 2021 Olympics.

He is the older brother of Shun Izuki.

APPEARANCE:
Hideaki has black hair and gray eyes. He is 193 cm (6' 4") which is an above average height for a volleyball player. Hideaki wears the standard black and orange Karasuno High uniform emblazoned with the number zero. He also wears white athletic shoes.

At other times, Hideaki dresses in the Karasuno High uniform, which consists of a classic black gakuran, white collared shirt, and black pants.

PERSONALITY:
Unlike his younger brother, Hideaki is more quiet and reserved. He doesn't make terrible puns and mostly just keeps to himself. He only talked to members on his volleyball team and his two childhood friends, Oikawa and Iwaizumi.

BACKGROUND:
Hideaki grew up with Tōru Oikawa and Hajime Iwaizumi, becoming their glue that stuck them together. He formally went to Kitagawa Daiichi Junior High, and played on their volleyball team as their ace.

After leaving junior high, Hideaki decides to attend Karasuno High, despite his friends attending Aoba Johsai High.

Hideaki is Karasuno's ace, and his spikes are incredibly powerful. Not only is he the ace, but he is also Karasuno's eyes as well. After coming back to his team, he has more faith in his abilities and is not as insecure as he was before.

Jumping Reach: 345 cm.

SKILLS:
• Hawk-Eye: Just like Takao Kazunari, Hideaki can see the court from a different perspective. This way, he can determine the position of the player's immediately. But unlike the Eagle Eye, Hideaki possesses a much wider range. With his Hawk-Eye, he can see the entire court (Eagle Eye can see just a smaller portion of the court), enabling him to make blind spikes. The only way to defeat the Hawk-Eye, is by purposely fixing that attention to oneself so that Hideaki is again focused on that person and his vision is smaller.

• Back Row Attack: After the first practice match against Nekoma, Hideaki learned how to do a back row attack. He is usually seen using this attack in conjunction with Hinata acting as a decoy. With Hinata luring in the blockers, Hideaki would take advantage of the opening to score. Eventually, he learned to perform this attack while syncing with Nishinoya's libero toss.

• Jump Serve: Being childhood friends with Oikawa, Hideaki has taught himself to make a powerful jump serve.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Tōru Oikawa: Oikawa is Hideaki's childhood best friend and has been playing volleyball with him since childhood along with Iwaizumi. The two of them eventually start dating during their second-year of junior high and are shown that they care about one another and don't let volleyball get in the way of their relationship even though they play on different teams. After Karasuno defeats Aoba Johsai in the semi-finals in the Spring Inter-High, Hideaki comforts Oikawa and makes a promise that he'll defeat Ushijima and go to nationals for him. It is revealed that they later get married after high school and play on Argentina's National Team together.

Hajime Iwaizumi: Iwaizumi is Hideaki's childhood friend who he met through Oikawa. Hideaki admires Iwaizumi as a fellow ace and best friend. He often helps Iwaizumi in dealing with Oikawa. After Karasuno defeats Aoba Johsai in the semi-finals in the Spring Inter-High, Hideaki is the one who reassures Iwaizumi that he's an amazing ace and that he shouldn't blame himself for their lost.

Tobio Kageyama: Kageyama is Hideaki's junior from Kitagawa. He recognizes Kageyama's talents as setter and believes that if anyone could surpass Oikawa, it would be him.

Karasuno High: After his return, Hideaki has put a lot more trust into his teammates as well as his underclassman. He cares a lot for his team and thinks that each of his teammates have their own individual talents.

OTHER SCHOOLS:

Wakatoshi Ushijima: Hideaki has known Ushijima since his junior high days when he would go up against him. They would often get into jousts during junior high in which Hideaki would always lose. Hideaki remembers all the times he has lost playing against him which makes Hideaki win the joust that he has with him during Karasuno's match against Shiratorizawa.

FAMILY:

Shun Izuki: Shun is Hideaki's younger brother. He sometimes gets embarrassed due to Shun's pun book. However, he cares a lot for him and it shown that the two have a great sibling bond when Shun shows up to watch the finals between Karasuno and Shiratorizawa and congratulates him and his team on making it to nationals.

❝ This guy is as scary as he was back in junior high. I have to do this for Tōru and Hajime. I have to finish what we started! Even if they're not physically on the court with me! ❞

❝ Ushiwaka... if this was back in junior high, I would've lost to you. But I'm stronger now, and I have my whole team behind me. So I'm going to defeat you, because I made a promise! ❞

❝ I made a promise to Tōru! And that was to defeat you and go to nationals! ❞

❝ Being able to go to nationals with my team is enough for me. I don't need an award. This is your win as much as it is mine. ❞

• His favorite scent is peppermint. (A/N: I read somewhere that Oikawa would smell like peppermint so I'm going with that besties).

• Back in middle school, Hideaki was known as Oikawa's "heart."

• Unlike his younger brother, Hideaki is terrible at making puns.

• During the timeskip, it is shown that Hideaki had moved to Argentina to play on the same side of the court as Oikawa again.
