AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a recap of all the major events that happened in "001" in case it's been a while since you've read "001" or in case you've forgotten something. It's not necessary to read, but it may be a nice refresher!

★ 𝐕𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐌𝐄 𝐎𝐍𝐄 ☆

1971: Sarah Hopper is pronounced dead and taken away to Hawkins Lab by Dr. Brenner to experiment on her abilities. Sarah begins to develop her ability to open portals and is given the name "One".

1985: One arrives in Hawkins and comes across Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, and Max at the arcade. After finding the "001" tattoo on her left wrist, Eleven takes her to stay at Hopper's cabin.

1970: While playing with her father in the park, Sarah has an episode where she sees into the Upside Down. An employee of Hawkins Lab overhears Hopper's 9-1-1 call and alerts Dr. Brenner. Dr. Brenner informs Mr. Munson of his plan to "diagnose" Sarah with cancer and fake her death. Mr. Munson threatens his job and gives him one year to provide results.

1985: After a shopping trip with Max and Eleven, One reveals to the party that she has the ability to open portals and to make electricity with her hands. She also reveals to them that she had been in the Upside Down for eight years.

1971: One accidentally cuts Mr. Munson's arm off with a portal after showing him her abilities.

1985: One accidentally opens a portal to the Upside Down in Hopper's cabin and a demogorgon nearly kills Hopper. One runs away after hearing a heated exchange between Hopper and Eleven.

1973: Dr. Brenner has One show off her abilities to a crowd of government officials and she opens a portal to the future after trying to get back the volunteer she lost in the previous portal.

1985: One stumbles across Joyce's house after learning that the Lab is located in Hawkins and that her portals won't allow her to leave. During her stay at Joyce's, strange happenings lead One to tear down the wallpaper covering the alphabet and to re-hang the Christmas lights. A message is sent to her from the Upside Down: "COMING".

1974: Dr. Brenner becomes frustrated with One after she fails to open another portal to the future and begins to neglect her. Lonely and distressed, One opens a portal to Dr. Brenner one day and overhears a young boy named Seven.

1985: After One rushes to meet the party and warn them of the message (with assistance from Steve), she opens a portal into the future and witnesses herself and Steve kissing and learns that Dr. Brenner is the one who the message is about from her future self.

1975: One sees Seven for the first time and becomes determined to talk to him. She opens a portal to him and learns that he has the ability to control others. They become close friends.

1985: Joyce and Hopper interrupt the party to take everybody home after finding the lights in Joyce's living room and learning that Dr. Brenner is coming. On the way back to the Byers' house, something overtakes Will and forces him to choke One. On the way back to Hopper's cabin, Eleven recalls that she saw Sarah's blue hair tie on Future One's wrist.

1977: One opens a portal to visit Seven one day and witnesses Dr. Brenner inject Seven with a mind-erasing drug. One attempts to escape through a portal that shows her her childhood home, but Dr. Brenner gets to her before she can get out. While being tortured by Dr. Brenner with electric shocks, One develops a new power: the ability to create electricity. One escapes the Lab with Seven to the Upside Down, but unfortunately Seven doesn't remember who she is.

★ 𝐕𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐖𝐎 ☆

1977: One's portal takes her and Seven to her childhood home in the Upside Down. Seven earns the nickname "James" after watching a James Bond film and a Demogorgon attacks, but the pair are able to fend it off.

1985: One goes on a ride-along with Hopper to explore police work and Hopper discovers that One shares the same birthday as Sarah. They answer a call where they discover that there are demodogs in Hawkins. After Hopper drops One off at the Byers', he finds a VHS left on his front step that has footage from the day Sarah died. Eleven notices that Dr. Brenner is standing outside Sarah's hospital room and Hopper picks up Joyce so that they can find answers to confirm Hopper's theory that One is Sarah.

1980: After trekking through the Upside Down for three years, One and James begin to develop feelings for each other and share a kiss on the beach. One realizes that she loves James.

1985: Hopper and Joyce go to the Lab where they find a secret room that holds Dr. Brenner's old files. They learn that One is Sarah, and also realize that they're not alone. Hopper kills a demodog as Joyce and him flee the Lab before heading back to the Byers' house.

1980: One and James hear and faintly see fireworks from their world, which drives the demo-monsters of the Upside Down crazy and they are soon surrounded by a group of demogorgons.

1985: At the Byers' house, Eleven notices James standing outside the window and One goes to investigate. As she's looking for James, she runs into Steve, who asks her out on a date. She says yes, but they are soon interrupted by Hopper, who has returned from the Lab.

1980: One and James learn that their powers don't work against the crazed demogorgons and the demogorgons take James. One is too injured to follow but makes a promise that she will find him.

1985: Hopper reunites with One and her memories come back to her.

1982: After searching for James for years, One gives up and believes him to be dead. She moves into an abandoned cabin in Minnesota to remain there until she dies.

1985: Eleven learns that One is Sarah and Hopper reveals that One will be moving back in with them. One shares with Joyce, Hopper, and Eleven that she wasn't alone when she escaped the Lab and explains that she believes James may still be alive and that he may have forced Will to choke her.

1985: A mysterious portal opens for One that leads her from Upside Down Minnesota to Snikwah. After it shuts on her, she tries to escape and manages to open a portal to Hawkins.

1985: One moves back into Hopper's cabin and Eleven helps prepare her for her date with Steve. Steve and One go on their date to Enzo's. Meanwhile, Hopper takes Eleven to go spy on their date with him but his truck breaks down on the side of the road and he realizes that somebody syphoned his gas.

1985: Steve and One return from their date to find that Hopper and Eleven are gone. One invites Steve inside and he becomes "possessed" by James who warns One that Dr. Brenner is coming and that he wants her. Steve kisses One and One realizes that this is the moment from the future that she had seen in the portal. One finds the portal from her past self and relays the message that Dr. Brenner is coming as the cabin begins to shake. A portal to the Upside Down opens and Dr. Brenner appears with an injured James. He informs One that in order to save James, she must go with him. Before she can answer, the portal disappears as Eleven forces the door open from the other side. One explains to Hopper and Eleven what happened and realizes that the portal Dr. Brenner opened had been a mirage. They agree to rescue James as a team.

1985: One reveals to the rest of the party that she's Hopper's daughter and that Dr. Brenner has her friend hostage. They strategize on a way to rescue James.

★ 𝐕𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐄𝐄 ☆

1985: At an unidentified point in the future, One finds herself back in Snikwah and stumbles across the Byers' house where she realizes that she has travelled back in time and that she is the one who sent the message, "COMING", through the lights.

1985: The party captures Dr. Brenner by having One open a portal to the Upside Down, Eleven pull him out with her powers, and Mike, Max, Lucas, Dustin, and Will pin him down with a net and nails. During the commotion, One slips into the Upside Down to look for James.

1985: One rescues James from the Upside Down and he meets the party for the first time. Upon One's insistence, Hopper and Joyce lock Dr. Brenner up in her old room at the Lab. James reveals to One that the demogorgons had abandoned him after dragging him away and One fights growing suspicion when certain parts of his story don't seem to add up.

1985: After several nights of trying to sneak into James' room to speak with him in private, One finally succeeds only to find James missing. Meanwhile, Will wakes from a nightmare of the Upside Down and the Mind Flayer to find who he believes to be James standing under the lamp post outside his window before disappearing.

1985: Hopper goes to the Lab to interrogate Dr. Brenner and learns that himself and his ex-wife had been given memory-erasing drugs to help them forget what had happened to Sarah. Before Hopper can leave, the remaining pack of demodogs break into the room and Hopper has to lock himself into the cell with Dr. Brenner in order to survive.

1985: One and Eleven join the rest of the party for a board game night, leaving James back at the cabin because One still isn't sure whether she trusts him. When Hopper is late to pick them up, One realizes that he had gone to the Lab earlier that day and races there with Steve and Eleven to make sure that he's okay.

1970: One opens a portal to the past after sending the message through the lights in the Upside Down. She witnesses her younger self have a fit that results in the culmination of her portal-making abilities.

1985: Trapped in the cage, Hopper learns that James is behind everything and that he's been controlling Dr. Brenner. James uses his abilities to force Hopper to kill Dr. Brenner.

1985: One, Eleven, and Steve come across James after fighting off the rest of the demodogs and James informs One that he tried to stop Hopper from killing Dr. Brenner, but he was too late. One tries to get to Hopper but James uses his abilities to make Steve and Eleven stop her. One confronts James and he forces Eleven and One to use their powers to hurt Steve. One is able to break free of his control with her electricity and sends James through a portal back to the Upside Down. Before the portal can shut, James forces Eleven through the portal with him. One opens another portal to chase after them, but before she leaves, she informs Steve that she loves him.

1985: Steve helps Hopper out of the cell and the two gather the party to determine a way to get to the Upside Down to rescue One and Eleven. The party realizes that they can use compasses to find the rift opened by the demodogs and sets off in teams to track it down.

1985: One finds James and Eleven in Snikwah. James reveals to One that his father and her mother come from a different dimension full of super-powered people called "the Diagonal", and that one of these individuals created the Upside Down. James informs One that he needs her portal-making abilities in order to get to the Diagonal through Earth because the link between the Upside Down and the Diagonal has been closed. He explains that the demogorgons had taken him to Snikwah to propose a deal: they'd teach him how to harness the residual powers of the Upside Down left behind by its creator if he helped them to take Earth. James' abilities became much stronger with the power from the Upside Down and One realizes that this was how James was able to appear with Dr. Brenner in a portal, make Hopper's cabin shake, and force Will to choke her from the car. When One asks James why he would try to kill her, he reveals that he wasn't trying to kill her, but rather to scare her away from Will because he didn't want Will to detect him. At this point, he reveals that he is the Mind Flayer.

1985: While driving in search of the rift, the clock in Hopper's truck begins to flash a sequence of numbers, which Steve and Hopper realize are coordinates. They follow the coordinates to the rift left by the demodogs. After jumping through the rift, the rift closes and disappears.

1985: James uses his abilities to force Eleven to fight One so that he can try to merge her and her abilities with the Mind Flayer. One is able to break Eleven free of James' control by zapping her with her electricity and together, the two team up to fight against James. During the fight, James catches Eleven off guard and knocks her unconscious. One combines her portal-making and electric abilities to attack James from several points, but it quickly drains her. Steve and Hopper appear to help and One instructs them to grab Eleven and to leave without her because she doesn't have enough energy for them all to get out of there alive. Against their protests, One says her final goodbyes and forces Hopper, Steve, and an unconscious Eleven through a portal back to Hawkins. As Steve disappears through the portal, he informs One that he loves her too.

1985: After being sent back to Hawkins, Hopper and Steve attempt to go back to the rift to save One, but quickly realize that it's gone and that there's no way to get back to the Upside Down. Three months pass by, and everybody begins to move on and return to their normal lives. Hopper, Eleven, and Steve begin a weekly Waffles & Westerns tradition, oblivious to the fact that One is still alive.

1985: Too weak to continue to fight, One is trapped in one of the Mind Flayer's limbs and the merging process begins. As One merges with the Mind Flayer, she gains access to some of James' memories and learns that his real name is Oliver Towns and that his parents had abandoned him to Dr. Brenner after his powers began to develop. One merges enough with the Mind Flayer to access the power of the Upside Down, and utilizes it to defeat the Mind Flayer, destroying the Upside Down in the process. One is able to escape last minute through a portal and her body lands back in Snikwah at the point where she leaves the message through the lights.

1985: After leaving the message in the lights and watching her younger self develop her powers, One attempts to get back to Hawkins but instead opens a portal to a strange place where her mother, Diane, is waiting for her. Diane reveals to One that she has a few more tasks to complete in order to close the loop and to ensure the destruction of the Upside Down. One asks Diane why she can't just go back in time to warn her past self about James, and Diane explains that if she did so, the Upside Down would continue to exist and wreak havoc on other dimensions. One agrees to complete the loop under the promise that doing so will allow her to see her friends and family again.

1985: One travels back in time to the day that Steve and her went on their date and syphons the gas out of Hopper's truck so that his truck will break down on the side of the road, ensuring that Hopper and Eleven wouldn't be at the cabin when Steve and One returned, allowing James to "possess" Steve and One to inform her past self that Dr. Brenner was coming.

1985: One opens a portal back to the Upside Down at the point of her fight with James and uses the clock in Hopper's truck to pass along the coordinates that will lead Hopper and Steve to the rift so that they can rescue Eleven.

1985: One travels back in time to the day that she went on the ride-along with Hopper and opens a portal to the Lab to grab the VHS with the hospital security footage of Dr. Brenner standing outside her room the day she "passed away". One brings it to Hopper's cabin and leaves it on the front step for him to find.

1985: One opens a portal back to Snikwah to the day that she arrived in Hawkins. She opens a portal for her past self from Upside Down Minnesota to Snikwah, and watches as her past self opens a portal to Hawkins.

1985: After completing the loop, One attempts to open a portal to Hawkins but ends up back in the strange place with her mother. Diane reveals that it is not yet time for her to reunite with Hopper, Eleven, Steve, and the party. A golden rift appears in the sky and Diane invites One to visit the Diagonal with her.
