Running. Running was all I could do to escape the madness that is my family. Born into a lineage that I was never prepared for, I was constantly scrutinized and picked at for any sign of my ability. Sure, I had it. But I liked to keep it hidden. It's dangerous. And if it fell into the wrong hands, anyone could get hurt. Or worse. I kept a locket around my neck that I designed on my own to keep it locked away, only allowing myself access to the power within.

My parents weren't prepared for how smart and efficient I could be with the life I was dealt. And they hated it. They hated not having control. Especially over me. Sirens. That's what we are. But not your typical kind that have fins or tails. Sure, I can survive under water. But I don't sprout anything. Just what you see is what you get. Sirens are typically associated with evil beings. And that part is true. But me? I don't want that life. And my aunt didn't want that life either. So we left in the night when no one would suspect anything, starting our journey somewhere new. And as we passed by the the town sign for Angel Grove, I felt a sense of relief wash over me.

{The Next Morning}
My necklace hummed while the shadow of the power within swirled around, a buzz of excitement being contained in the oh so small locket. It knew we were somewhere new. Somewhere we weren't prisoners. Astral is what the sirens power is called. At least, that's what I named mine. Each siren is different, their abilities coming in different forms and even shapes. Mine is the ability to manipulate, causing anyone to do as I command. Typical. But I can also cause forms of emotion. Anger, Dread, Happiness, Sadness.

"Aria! Hon you'll be late for your first day. Just remember, keep your locket within your shirt okay? Never let it open. And never let anyone handle it. Be careful." Aunt Aurora was the miracle I was thankful I received each day of my life. This woman has protected me at all costs, knowing the circumstances behind our family and just how evil they truly can be. She never wanted this either. Her ability was tame compared to mine. But still powerful.

"I promise I'll be careful. Now let's see how well I fit into Angel Grove High." I smiled a humorous smile, grabbing my backpack with ease and confidence in my tone, but knowing well that I was anything other than that.

Walking into school felt as if I suddenly couldn't breathe, seeing the bustle of other teens coming and going in a rush, some slamming their lockers while others huddled around in conversations and laughter. And then, there was me. The newbie. Great. I approached my locker for the semester, seeing a group of five people standing right next to it in what appeared to be a closed conversation. Two girls, three guys.

"Where is Tommy? He was supposed to meet us here five minutes ago!" A brown haired girl in really cute pink attire looked frantically around the halls for whoever Tommy was, but to no avail.

"He's probably on his way guys. We can't be late for class." The boy in blue with glasses seemed flustered, looking how I felt. Then, their eyes landed on me and I felt like a total creep, just listening and staring. Great first impression Aria.

"Hey! You're the new girl right? I'm Kimberly. This is Billy, Jason, Trini, and Zach. Our other friend is MIA unfortunately." Kimberly smiled at me so warmly, surprising the crap out of me. She looked as if she would be popular, too cool for me anyhow. Billy simply gazed at me with a little shy smile, waving a tiny wave that I did right back. Jason was muscular in a red tank, looking like he could be the cool guy in town. He smiled, seemed lost in thought. Trini was all in yellow, her straight black hair flowing perfectly down her shoulders. Her friendly smile sent a wave of calmness over me. And Zach shook my hand in a quick gesture, but a smile as big as could be.

"I'm Aria. I'm just thankful I found my locker." They laughed, just as the bell suddenly rang, the group waving at me with smiles as they wandered on to their own classes.

"Thank god they're friendly." I quickly opened my locker, throwing in my bag and grabbing my books so I could rush to class, just as I felt a presence come up next to me at the locker next to mine. I gently closed my locker door, when I was greeted with dark brown eyes that seemed to stop me in my tracks. His shoulder length hair was nuzzled behind his neck with a green wrap over his head. My necklace suddenly buzzed, jolting me a bit and surprising the guy in front of me.

"Are you okay? I'm Tommy. I guess we are neighbors." His infectious smile rose upon his face, lighting up his eyes as he looked at me. Man. Angel Grove is already shaping up to be interesting.

"I'm Aria. Just.... first day jitters I guess." I softly covered my hand over my hidden locket, feeling sudden heat coming from within it. That's new.

"I get it. But, if you need help I can do that. I'm usually at The Youth Center for karate classes." I couldn't take my eyes away from him as he took off to get to class. Tommy huh?

Hey guys! So I've had this idea for so long and just never got the chance to actually write it down. But hearing the news about Jason really made me want to do this. Jason David Frank was the nicest man you could possibly meet. I'm so thankful and blessed that I actually got to meet him. And he'll always be missed. RIP Jason. Once a Ranger, always a Ranger. ❤️🖤🤍💚
