Chapter Four should be up soon too, sorry this took forever

~~~~~
Apparently my parents didn't know about this, but I supposed that was for the best. When Saturday came, they thought they were dropping me off for something school-related. Which wasn't a complete lie...
"Are you sure you'll be alright?" My mother pursed her lips, turning around to look at me. I sat in the backseat, since both my parents were dropping me off. They had insisted on driving me there and picking me up, and I had no idea why.
"I'll be fine. Pick me up at seven," I reassured her, slinging my backpack onto my shoulders and stepping out of the gray metallic car onto the pavement. Or at least, I think I'll be fine... I had no idea what would happen I only knew that I would be a 'test.' I didn't want to be a test, but I had no choice. I walked along the sidewalk that led up to the facility. The windows on the doors were darkened, and I tapped on what looked like a speaker.
"Um, hello? I'm here for the-" the door clicked before I could finish my statement, and a man walked out.
"Follow me, Miss," he gestured inside and I followed him.
Great, now I'm following random strangers into sketchy buildings. The hallways were bleak, and I soon got lost in them.
"In here." We entered a room that was, like the rest of the building, devoid of color. The walls were white, a single table and two chairs were in the room. It seemed like the table was an operating table. The first spring of nervousness struck me. This was actually happening, they were going to operate on me. "The nurse should be in here soon." Then he left.
I slid onto the table to wait. He was right, less than five minutes later, a nurse entered.
"Hello. I'm Dr. Gretel. I assume you are Abigail?"
"Yes."
"Good. Now, I need you to lay down on the table." I did as she asked. I felt her rubbing something cold onto my arm. "This will numb the pain," she explained. I nodded, and she handed me a small glass of purple liquid. "Drink that," she instructed, "and then I'll give you the injection."
I looked into the glass. I liked the color purple, unlike yellow and orange, but this seemed... off. It was an unnatural color, but I raised the glass to my lips anyway and drank. It was cold, but not cold. The liquid seemed to burn my throat, but it didn't hurt. My head went light, and I faintly felt a small prick on my arm as the doctor gave me the shot. Then my vision faded away.
When I came to, the room was empty. I sat up carefully, but my head buzzed. A few minutes later it cleared and I stood up. The room was the same, except for a small handheld mirror that rested upon the table. A white box sat on one of the chairs, but I picked up the mirror first to see if anything had changed about my appearance. Like the room, nothing was different except for one small thing. My eyes had a light in them that wasn't there before. It was odd, as if I was strangely alert. I frowned at that, but discarded it as an effect from the liquid. My body felt more awake and alert, like my eyes.
My gaze was drawn to the box. I opened it, on top of tissue paper was a note. Opening it, it read,
Ms. Davis,
In this box is a suit you can wear. You must not let anyone know your real identity. There is a mask that will cover your mouth so your voice is slightly distorted. You must wear the mask at all times and avoid talking to anyone but your colleagues.
There are five other students your age that will be partnering with you to keep the rate of crime from rising any further.
You will need to make up a name for yourself that is not your own. It can be based on your powers if you wish it to be. Your powers are control of light and/or blending in. It's like a chameleon. Your hair will be covered by a head piece that wraps around your head and over your face.
This building will be the main base of all operations. Usually, it is an office building. Tell people that you have a part-time job here. That will help you cover your disappearances. You will meet here if you are ever injured or need assistance. In your suits, there is an earpiece inside the mask. Use it to communicate with the other heroes.
Exactly a week from today, you will all meet behind this building at 8:00 p.m.. Do not be late.
Remember, you must not know who each other are in real life. It doesn't matter what happens, your identities must stay secret. If your identity is ever exposed, you could potentially be in grave danger. Our enemies could find you and kill you; they will show no mercy.
Now that you have obtained this information, get rid of this letter. Burn it. No one must know about this except you.
Signed,
Maker
"Who the heck is 'Maker?'" I muttered aloud. I placed the note in my backpack and drew the suit out from underneath the tissue paper. Unfolding it, I held it up to me.
The suit shimmered in the light, making me question if it was there or not. It was probably skintight, as most superhero suits were. I turned it from side to side, watching the colors flicker.
"Alright, enough playing around," I muttered, and refolded it. I put the box in my backpack next to the note and slung my backpack over my shoulder. Glancing at my watch, I saw that it was eight minutes until my parents picked me up. "I guess I can just leave." I walked toward the door and pushed it open, closing it behind me.
I was right. The hallways were empty, and after finally finding my way out of the building, I saw the familiar gray car in the parking lot, and I set off toward it.
"How was it?" my mom asked as I sat in the front passenger seat.
"It was fine. I got a job," I added as my mom backed out of the parking space.
"Oh. What is it?"
"It's a sort of internship." I had made up an excuse while I found my way through the endless corridors. I hated lying to her, but I had to do what the note said. I would find out more next week, when we all met together for the first time.
