Erica pov.

It was Saturday morning and I was having breakfast with my parents and older sister. Silence reigned throughout breakfast, my father wasn't a fan of small talk while having breakfast and we kept it that way.

Once we were done with breakfast which was pap and akara. I followed my sister to clear the plate and do the dishes, after we were done we both returned to the dining hall.

"So Erica, how is your friend's health?" My mom asked me and I gave her a brief smile before responding positively. I was indeed glad that Tomiwa was recovering. I was thrilled by that information even though it was shared with me the last time I was at the hospital. I guess it was due to my frequent visit to her ward at the hospital.

"I am glad she is doing alright father. I would like to visit her today"

My dad was surprised at my statement but he was quick to mask it immediately as he said...

"You already visited her yesterday. Why go again today when your NECO exam is less than 72 hours away?"

I just smiled at his response, not knowing how to convince my dad. My mom, knowing me completely understood my dilemma she quickly jumped into the statement  by saying "My husband, give your daughter a break. I am sure she is responsible enough to be back home before sundown."

She said that last part winking at me and I discreetly winked at her as well. Father sighed, raising his hands in a mocking surrender before saying "Fine  but be back before sundown, 4 pm sharp." He concluded with a tone of finality before leaving to tend to his other wives.

Yes, in case you didn't know I am a Muslim and just because I have an English name doesn't downplay my religion or my tribe. I am Hausa as well but that's not the point. Mom squeezed my hand reassuringly before leaving for her room.

" Come sis let's go pay your friend a visit."

My older sister said as she dragged me out of there. Well, maybe she isn't so bad after all I thought smiling at her. We took her car and headed straight for the hospital. The closer we got to the hospital, the more my heart began to tighten in my chest. I was about to cry again but I held the tears in, long enough so I could see Tomiwas face.

The minute I got into her ward  I noticed something different. She looked radiant and the tube around her nose a month ago was gone. I smiled as a tear slipped my eyes, I wiped them away quickly as I got closer. I adjusted my simple knee-length short sleeves gown and took a seat. I watched her for a bit, how her chest was falling and rising, how the air was flowing freely from her nose. How the monitor beeped with ease indicating her heartbeat, how the drip was flowing freely supplying her with nutrients.

I smiled as I watched her natural glow return to her skin. She was always the prettier one out of the two of us.

"You know it's rude to stare right? I'm not your lover girl you should be fawning over." I wasn't shocked. That statement could only come from one person.

" Tomiwa!!! OMG, you are awake!! and sassy as always."

She smiled at me trying to sit up. I quickly helped her so she could sit up properly, my smile never leaving my face and she returned it with one of hers. I didn't know when it start but I just knew that I opened my mouth wanting to ask her questions, questions like when did she wake up? What happened? Does she feel any pain? I wanted to hear all that  and more but I ended up... Singing

I didn't know what you were going through,
I thought that you were fine,
Why did you have to hide?

She smiled, a sad one at that as she sang Mal's part to the song space between the Descendant series.  Her head was down as she sang this part playing with her fingers.

I didn't want to let you down
But the truth is out
It's tearing me apart, not listening to my heart...
I really had to go

"And I would never stop you"

I said instead of singing but  she turned away from me her fist clenched saying  " Even though it changed"

"Nothing has to change" I sang this time giving  her a weak smile as well, she Finally held on to my hand as we both  sang.

She smile at me again and this time I could see the glitter in her eyes. She looked away staring longingly at the door of her ward as she sang.

I interjected her giving her hand a light squeeze before singing Eve's part of the song.

I know you have to stay

At this point, we were both struggling not crying as we kept on singing. We were filled with emotions as memories of all the escapades we'd done filled my head. We really have come a long way On our road to friendship, and to think that the friendship only started 3 years ago. It's incredible how we've grown so fondly of each other.

We sang the chorus one last time before ending the song with a hug, sniffing away the tears as we both said to each other.

I finally let go of her and our hands were still tightly clasped together as I said.

"You can always find me in the space between Tomiwa, no matter where you are"

She smiled at me, a lot brighter this time before saying. "I'll keep that in mind."

phew what a chapter, and on the bright side tomiwa is awakeeee oooo!!! ahhh finally.  i am sure you all were scared to death. but no need to be scare any more, phew.
