You and Willow stood toe to toe, both clutching the stamped and verified envelope in your hands. So many years of pain, stress and tears stuck between schools had culminated in this moment.

"Wait." Willow held her hand over your letter, stopping you from unfurling the edge anymore. "What if we get into different colleges?" Through the strain and excitement of graduating high school you both until this point just expected that you would both get into your first choice and therefore spend the next few years studying alongside each other.

"We both worked hard, we aced our exams. I don't see why we wouldn't both go where we want. Don't worry so much, but we won't know until we open it!" Unsure Willow pulled her hand away and in unison you peeled back the sticky lid and pulled the letter with shaky hands. "I didn't get in..." Willow looked up from her admission with shocked eyes and a shaken lip.

"No, no, what do you mean?" She grabbed the paper from your hand and scanned it up and down, looking for anything that would prove you wrong. "You need to have got in, we need to go together that's how this is all meant to play out. We get into the same school, move in together and then we go and buy a house together."

"This isn't a movie." You folded the future determining letter and rammed it into your pocket, you couldn't do this to her, there was no way that you could abandon the person that you loved so dearly. "Do we try and make long distance work?"

Willow joined you in sitting on the linoleum floor of the high school hallways as you watched and heard the cheers of joy echo throughout the rest of the school.

"We can make it work." You caught an unknowing smile from the corner of your eye and as her cerise lips pressed against your cheek, so did her damp cheek.

"Why are you crying?" She rested a heavy head on your shoulder as she wiped what she could from her face with the sleeve of her sweatshirt. "Don't cry. We'll make it work just like you said. Were only a two-hour drive from each other, we can do that every weekend if we wanted to."

"But what if I need you not on the weekend? That's five more days that I have to go without you."

"If you need me, or I need you, and a phone call just wont do. I'll get in the car and get there as soon as I can. Okay?" You felt a slight nod but for somebody as optimistic as she was, Willow still seemed unsure.
