chapter seven !
wrong people

START OF THE APOCALYPSE

negan and riley went on their first supply run since they needed to get medicine for lucille. her sickness was getting worse and worse everyday.

riley couldn't stand the thought of losing her mother.

"riles?"

"what."

"you okay?" negan asked, concern filling his face.

"i'm fine." she huffed, but she was lying. her face was hot, sweat continued to spread on her forehead and she felt loopy. her breathing was more faster than usual.

"riley..." negan began but riley interrupted before he could even continue.

"just stop! okay? don't try to act so concern now." riley rolled her eyes. right on perfect timing, they arrived at the pharmacy.

she opened the door, about to step inside but her dad stopped her. "i'm still you're dad." negan stated.

riley stared at him. she didn't know what to think. that was because she felt her legs weakened and her eyes shutting close.

"riley!" her dad called out. he caught her before she can fall to the ground and rubbed the sweat from her forehead. "you're burning up..."

"i'm okay, no need to worry." she murmured.

"no you're not." he shook his head and took them both inside the pharmacy.

negan had his gun in his left hand and riley in his right side, securing the place for any walkers.

he didn't find any infected and sat down riley, her back leaning against the counter. "stay here, i'll find some medicine and come back."

she slowly nodded and watched him leave her sight. her eyes were watering and kept her head down.

NOW

"where the hell did you get this watch?" rick repeated once again, his chokehold getting tighter on the man.

"you want answers? you want anything else? you get 'em when you put down the gun."

"i see your man on the roof with a sniper rifle. how good's his aim?" rick asked, "where'd you get the watch?"

riley still had her gun aimed at the others with weapons of their own that was pointed at her.

"where'd you get the watch?!" rick shouted this time, eager for the man's answer.

"don't do anything! i have this! you just put it down. put it down!" alex yelled at the person on the roof. the man put down his weapon, "you want to listen to me. there's a lot of us."

"where did you get the watch?"

"i got it off a dead one. i didn't think he'd need it." alex said but rick didn't believe him.

"what about the riot gear? the poncho?"

"got the riot gear off a dead cop." gareth spoke up from behind them. riley turned around and now was aiming her gun at him.

"found the poncho on a clothesline." he answered.

"gareth, we can wait." alex called out.

"shut up, alex."

"you talk to me." rick stated, keeping his gun tip on alex's head.

"what's there left to say?" gareth shrugged, "you don't trust us anymore."

he stepped forward with his hand up, "rick, what do you want?"

"where are our people?"

"you didn't answer the question."

"and you still haven't answered ours." riley hissed at him. gareth glared at her and then folded his hand, signaling for his men to start attacking.

rick turned around to the lady just as she pulled the trigger, the bullet that was supposed to be for him, going into alex.

the place erupted into gunshots flying around and riley ducked down as rick pushed her back protectively, "get down, now! go!"

rick led the way to an alley but every corner had an ending point. gunshots were attempted to hit their feet but the group turned the opposite direction quickly.

they made it into the garage and ran towards the garage door that was closing, it closed before the five could even escape. the group found another door that had a big letter 'A' written above it. riley ran through the alley way with bullets still following behind them.

they passed a gate that you can see the flesh.

human flesh.

riley furrowed her eyebrows but continued to run. sounds came from the large cargo boxes, pleading helps. "help! let us out!"

the group slowed down and looked at the red cargo box that the people were inside in. "what the hell..." daryl murmured.

"keep going!" rick yelled, going into an hallway that was dull.

once they entered, candles were laying around like some kind of ritual. "what the hell is this place?"

"these people, i don't think they're trying to kill us."

"yeah, no shit. they kept aiming at our feet." riley huffed, staring at the words written on the white walls, 'never again, never trust, we first, always.'

"there." rick led us to a door but it was slammed closed.

riley stumbled back and looked around for another exit. her eyes landed on a double door, "go!"

she met the sunlight again as she stepped outside, being met with bullets firing at the ground. the young girl shield her face as the group came to a sudden stop. people were lined up against the fence, guns raised.

"drop you're weapons! now!" gareth shouted from his spot on the roof.

"now!" he screamed louder this time, causing riley to slightly flinch at his tone. she and the other four dropped their weapons on the cement ground.

"ringleader, go to your left. the train car, go."

rick stared at the man, tension rising in the air. "you do what we say, the boy and the girl goes with you. anything else, they die and you end up in there anyway."

carl's dad looked at the two kids for a moment before following gareth's instructions, turning and walking towards the train car.

"now the archer." daryl glanced at riley and gave her a reassuring nod, walking behind rick.

"next, the samurai."

michonne kept her eye contact on gareth and started following daryl.

riley turned to look at carl in worry. "stand at the door, ringleader, archer, samurai, in that order." gareth announced.

rick stared at riley and carl, "my kids!"

gareth looked at riley with a grin, "go." she glared at him before nodding to carl and both started walking at the same pace to the adults.

"ringleader, open the door and go in!"

"i'll go in with them." rick said, he watched as riley and carl got closer to them.

"don't make us kill them now!" gareth threatened, raising his gun.

rick walked up the small steps and slid the door open, daryl walked in and so did michonne. carl and riley looked at each other before going into the cargo box.

the girl was pushed behind daryl while carl stood close to rick and michonne. it was pitch—black dark when the door came to a close.

riley hated the dark.

"rick?" a figure started to approach the group. the smith girl backed away a little, unsure who the stranger was.

"you're here." rick stepped forward.

behind the stranger, there were seven more people that came out of the shadows. "they're our friends." a woman spoke, she had a southern accent. "they helped save us."

"yeah, so did she." daryl shoved riley forward, the girl giving him a sour look.

the group of strangers in front stared at her and riley gave them a little wave, "hello."

"now they're friends of ours." daryl said. riley moved back to her spot.

"for however long that'll be." a male redhead interrupted.

"no," rick shook his head. "they're gonna feel pretty stupid when they find out..."

"find out what?" riley asked, tilting her head.

rick looked through the crack of the door before turning to the others..

"they're screwing with the wrong people."
