The story of Dinosaurs Don't Dance is set within the year 1880 of the 19th century. In this world, dinosaurs are common residents as well as our old era people of the past. Taking up roles that you may find familiar in today's society. Wagons are led by hadrosaurs. Dinosaur mounts are especially popular with Gallimimus or other rideable mounts. Technology, especially, as well as laws and bounding businesses have been accustomed to include heavy duty dinosaurs to ease their workload, and many other jobs these working dinos could obtain. They were even used to help authorities enforce the law or entertain the crowd!

But if these dinosaurs all that jazz, wouldn't that mean they are exploited? Definitely. Societies have adapted to rely on their dinosaur denizens for a variety of things, and that's first including the workload. Issues of dinosaur cruelty, black market dealings, poaching, excessive hunting, exotic pet trading, live export and import. These are the tensions that our favourite prehistoric lovelies have to face for the economic rat race of this speculative world.

Our trio protagonists introduced are no stranger to this either. Our shrewd businessman, Randall Thompson. The compassionate dinosaur caretaker, Gabrielle Hopewell. And the favourite of most, the reckless dinosaur hunter and wrangler, Tanner Graves.

Together, these three face all the bad and the good. The worst of the cruelty and exploiting nature, to the small wonders of unlikely friendships and compassions towards these specialised lizards. But can they really make the change?

Movies: Jurassic Park franchise, Wild Wild West, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Indiana Jones franchise

Books: Jurassic Park, Black Beauty

Other influences:

Steampunk similarity / Alternate historical influence (technology and societies conforming to dinosaur denizens as everyday influence).

Victorian and Old West aesthetics.

Real world historical events explored differently via dinosaur denizens.

Mark Twain's wit and legendary, satirical commentary.

Dinosaurs Don't Dance is a world (well, mostly Western) reimagined where dinosaurs never went extinct. No, this isn't Jurassic Park nor is the world premise including super accurate detail that intended to spark debate of the "in-depth analysis of dinosaur evolution". To put it clearly for everyone, dinosaurs in this story are simply a fun element to work around with included into the genre of Alternative History and don't need a whole scientific debate. The most accurate extent of dinosaurs as an element are speculative animal behaviour, appearance, and whether a particular species have feathers or not.

But just a due note, I freaking love Jurassic Park (novel by Michael Crinchton) and I just gotta make a quick appreciation for his amazing detail that the films did not touch. Seriously, you guys should read the books and I will defend it with my life!

Dinosaurs Don't Dance is a work of fiction. All names, characters, businesses, events and incidents are the products of the author's imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, companies of any kind is purely coincidental (with exception of brief mentioning real world events or real world businesses).

This novel's story contains slight usage of profane language and an abundance of lovely redneck humour, gunslinging violence, dinosaur labour-slavery, and occasional death.
