The party was in full swing with blinding lights in the form of chandeliers and garden lights, sparkling glasses of light alcohol, and one jewel-encrusted banner. Even though it was Tony's birthday party, most guests flocked to his father.

Novalyn was leaning against the wall with a glass of champagne in her hand as she watched the guests mingle. Tony walked over to her, leaning next to her with a glass of wine.

"Are you actually of age or do you just have a baby face?"

She rolled her head to the side in order to make sure he caught her rolling her eyes. "I'm twenty. My birthday's in December."

"Christmas baby?"

"Nah. I'm the baby where people only get me one gift instead of two since it's close to Christmas," she retorted. "December sixteenth."

He hummed. "I'll get started on the birthday party planning."

"If it's a party like this, then count me out."

"What, not your style?" he sarcastically asked.

"Mr. Stank, I wear rainbow jumpsuits, and you miraculously got me into a one-piece black dress tonight. If it's my birthday party, I'm showing up in my pajamas and roller skates," she explained.

"Again I say: all that and a bag of chips." He raised his glass and she clinked them together. "Happy birthday to me."

"Happy birthday, Tony." The two took a sip of their respective glasses. "I'm glad I met you."

"Technically, you asked me to ride your disco stick," he corrected.

She sighed wistfully. "It was a beautiful day."

"That began a beautiful friendship of rainbows and alcohol."

"And the roller rink. Let's not forget about that," she added.

"Of course not."

The two fell into a silence as they glanced out at the crowd of businessmen, models, and distant relatives.

Novalyn brought the glass of champagne to her lips. "Do you think they'll notice if I kidnap you?"

The corner of his mouth turned up. "No, I don't think they will."

Without a word, she grabbed his wine glass and placed their glasses on a passing waiter's tray before grabbing his hand and pulling him away.

The two giggled as they ran away from the extravagant party in a fancy suit and long dress toward a beat down AMC Eagle that stood out in the sea of limousines.
