The Summer I Turned Pretty One Shot

It was strange waking up and not having Conrad next to you, you were so used to him being there that when he wasn't, it sort of unnerved you.

The two of you had gone to the beach house a few days before everyone else; with everything that Susannah had been through since last summer, you wanted to get there early and make sure everything was perfect.

You climbed out of bed and found Conrad's t-shirt, and then ventured downstairs to try and find your boyfriend.

"Connie?" you called out as you walked down the stairs.

You found him in the kitchen, standing over the hob with wet hair and his swim shorts.

"Morning surf?" you quizzed, tucking yourself under his arm and kissing his cheek.

He hummed in agreement as he stirred his eggs about. "I couldn't sleep," he sighed out, kissing the side of your head.

Sensing that something was up, you took his eggs of the heat and then jumped up on the counter so that Conrad would look at you. "What's wrong?"

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I just want my mum to enjoy this summer," he told you as he stood between your legs.

You wrapped your arms around him, and he rested his head against your chest.

"She's been through so much shit, she has been so ill and all I want is for her to have a good summer," he rambled out, his voice muffled due to his position on your chest.

Sighing, you played with his curls with one hand and rubbed his back with the other. "Where is this coming from?"

He shrugged and didn't say anything else, moving his arms so that his hands were splayed on your back.

"Connie, baby, you know your mum will love anything we do," you told him gently. "She is just so excited to be back here with us, she doesn't even know we're here early – only Jer, Steven and Belly know."

He grumbled but stayed where he was, making you sigh but you kept playing with his hair, knowing how much he loved it.

After a few more minutes of sitting there in silence, letting Conrad just stew in his feelings, he looked up at you and tucked a lock of your hair behind your ear.

You smiled at him, and he smiled back. "You make things better," he murmured before kissing you.

The both of you melted into it before you pulled away and smiled at him still. "I think your eggs are cold now."

Conrad laughed, the feelings of earlier melted away, as shrugged, and then picked you up causing you to laugh along with him and wrap your legs around his waist. "Then I guess we're going out for breakfast."
