The Umbrella Academy One Shot

Your knees were curled up to your chest as you rested your book on top of them, letting yourself become lost within the pages of the novel. You had lost track of how long you were sat there, but the backroom in the boxing club was surprisingly quiet and peaceful, even if a little smelly. Normally no one but the occupant was allowed in there, but you were the exception.

The door swung up, making a loud bang as it hit the wall, knocking you back into reality. Diego stormed into the room, slamming the door behind him.

You shot up from your seat in the corner of the room, clutching the book to your chest, having been shocked by his sudden entrance into the room.

"What are you doing in here?" Diego snapped.

Your eyes were wide as random syllables escaped your lips as you tried to think clearly. "Do you want me to leave?"

With a sigh, he shook his head. He slipped off his gloves throwing them onto the messy dresser top, likely losing them to the collection of rubbish that had been accumulated on it.

"No," he frowned. "I enjoy your company."

A smile curled onto your lips. "Wait, did you see that?"

He looked around, confused. "See what?"

"The pig flying," you chuckled. "I thought that it had to be a miracle for Diego Hargreeves to enjoy the company of someone."

Diego shot you a glare. To the uninformed, it would have been a terrifying look but having been friends with him for quite some time, you knew it was meant to be playful and relaxed.

"I could change my mind about letting you hide out in my room when you're meant to be training," he stated.

"You'd never subject me to that," you smiled. "I don't even want to train, but my dad thinks that I showed potential, or some shit and I am now stuck coming here every night to appease him and stop my daddy issues from getting worse."

With a smirk on his face, he went to speak but you stopped him from speaking by holding out a hand in front of you.

"No comments on the daddy issues."

He raised his hands at you in defence, unloading all his hidden pockets of knives and other weapons he had used whilst not so secretly running around as the city's vigilante.

"Get much done tonight?" You asked. "Catch any criminals? Stop any crimes? Or did you just drive the batmobile around?"

This time the glare he shot at you wasn't as playful.

"I'd kick batman's ass," he stated.

"I never took you as a comedian, Diego, but now, that was funny."

He threw one of his balled-up gloves at you, hitting you in the shoulder. You attempted to throw it back but missed him completely.

"Sometimes I wonder why I decided to take pity on the weakest fighter in this place and let you treat under my bed as a library."

You plopped back down in the seat you had previously been in, planning to get a couple more chapters read before you headed off.

"It's because you don't know how to make friends."
