The Haunting of Bly Manor One Shot

When you volunteered to help Jamie with work, it seemed like a good idea, now that it was actually happening, you had deep regrets. Normally Jamie was awake long before the sun rose and long before you had any intentions to get up, so having to wake up with Jamie was a very hard thing to do. Your eyes stayed blurred whilst you got dressed in some old clothing that you didn't care about getting dirty and wrapped up in a few layers to cope with the early morning chill. By the time you had stumbled into the kitchen at Bly Manor, you felt as though you were just floating through rather than actively moving yourself.

Jamie was already there making herself a cup of tea, looking far too chipper for anyone to be at that time in the morning.

"Good morning," she said, a sly grin on her face as she saw the dread on your own.

"Is it?" You huffed, too tired to think or speak clearly.

Jamie rolled her eyes at you as she stirred in the milk and sugar to her tea.

"I know you said you weren't a morning person, but this is something else."

You shot her a glare. "This isn't even morning yet."

She ignored your grumpiness, discarding the teabag into the bin and throwing the teaspoon into the sink to be dealt with later, likely by someone else.

"Do you want a drink before we get to work?" She asked.

"I'd kill for a coffee... literally," you became stern on the last word and she certainly didn't need to be told twice to take that threat seriously.

There was enough hot water left for your mug to be filled. The coffee had barely been stirred into the water before you had picked it up, taking a sizeable mouthful, ignoring the scolding that was occurring in your mouth and throat.

"Take it easy," she chuckled, lifting her own mug, only to warm her hands rather than cause lasting damage to her tongue.

"If you want me to be functioning at this time, then I need at least two cups of coffee in me," you frowned.

Jamie couldn't help but smile at you. She enjoyed your company and your normal persona, but she couldn't help but find joy in how grumpy you had become by waking up a few hours before you normally did.

"Don't worry, the cold will wake you," she smiled. "And if that doesn't work, I don't mind hitting you with my shovel."
