How I Met Your Mother One Shot

It wasn't a lie that things were stressful, and the stress was expected but that didn't mean you wanted the stress.

You were planning a wedding, your own wedding to be more precise – a wedding that people thought would never happen.

Your husband-to-be, was the one and only Barney Stinson.

The womanizer, player, the guy that never called back – yeah, that guy.

Everyone in your lives were surprised when Barney proposed, then again they were surprised when you actually stayed in a relationship past a few months. The engagement hadn't been a long one, and you and Barney weren't in any rush to get married but it wouldn't hurt for it to be soon.

For the past two hours, you had been sat in one of Barney's shirts and a pair of leggings, cross legged on the couch and flipping through magazine after magazine.

It sounded tedious, but every now and then, there was something you loved so you made a note of it by putting a sticky note on the page.

A knock on the door interrupted you, and you got up to open it "Hey Y/N" you were greeted by a smiling Lily, so you invited her in.

"Hey Lils, what brings you here?" you asked as you shut the door behind her.

Lily took off her coat, and turned around to hold up a paper bag "Barney told me you were planning, figured you could use some company and some refreshments" she explained with a smile which caused you to smile back at her.

"Well, I didn't want Barney here as he would tell me to get whatever I wanted and all that" you told her simply, making her laugh.

You sat back down on the couch, and Lily soon joined you with two glasses of wine "Alcohol, already?" you quizzed as you took the glass off of her.

Lily shrugged and curled up on the couch next to you, "It's six at night Y/N/N, it's all good, the boys will want us down at MacLaren's soon" she smiled as she spoke, before taking a sip of her drink.

She placed her drink down on the coffee table, as did you, and she picked up a magazine "I know, Barney texted me an hour ago telling me that he was down there and I was welcome to join" you explained.

Lily nodded as she flicked through the magazine, "You know...none of us ever thought this would happen" Lily spoke up, resting the open magazine on her knees.

You stopped your actions, and looked over at Lily, "What do you mean?" you asked and Lily sighed.

"Barney and marriage were never two words we thought we'd hear together" she told you, "I have known Barney for so long, and you know better than anyone Y/N, he was a player and a heartbreaker" you nodded in agreement with your closest friend "And then you appeared, we never thought you two would get along so well and yet you did" Lily continued to explain things to you, and you smiled "You two are getting married Y/N, it's such an amazing thing and I couldn't be happier for you both" she finished and you pulled her into a hug.

After pulling away from the hug, you picked up another magazine, "That was touching Lils, honest" you commented and she smiled "But please help me get something concrete planned"
