One Day At A Time One Shot

When you had found out you were pregnant, you were shocked and confused and you had no idea what you were going to do. Financially you were stable, you had a decent job, and your boyfriend was from money, so that wasn't the issue, but since you had known Schneider, he hadn't wanted to settle down and it had already been a shock when you started officially dating. You told him, even if it terrified you and he was over the moon. It wasn't the plan, but he wanted to be a father to your child and the idea of the domestic bliss you could have together, seemed perfect.

He went overboard, as soon as you'd had your first scan, he had disappeared for a few hours and returned with hundreds of dollars' worth of baby things, clothes, toys, diapers, anything you could imagine they could need. It seemed like everything was going to work out- that was until you saw the blood.

You had been experiencing some stomach cramping for a couple of days which didn't concern you at first but when it became far more intense, and you noticed the blood in your underwear, you couldn't imagine it was normal anymore. You told Schneider straight away and he rushed you to the hospital. That's where you found out that you were no longer pregnant, there wasn't a clear explanation, just sometimes pregnancies aren't viable even if you did everything right.

As soon as you heard the words, it felt like the world crashed around you. You may not have planned the pregnancy, but you had both grown to want it, and the sudden loss was unbearable. Briefly you were treated before being sent on your way without anything more but mild pain killers you could have gotten from the pharmacy and the weight of loss and grief upon your shoulders.

Silently Schneider took you home. There was nothing either of you could say to make it better. The tears had seized, and the numbness had taken over. You didn't know how to feel anything anymore, it didn't even feel real. Everything came back as soon as he opened the front door and you saw the assortment of baby things that covered the living room.

With a sob choking you, you headed straight to the bedroom, curling up into a ball on the bed. He followed you, sitting on the edge of the mattress resting a hand on your leg.

"I don't really know what I'm meant to say... and I don't know what you want and need. Just know that no matter what you want, I am here for you. If you want to try again soon... or never again, I won't judge your decision and I will support you no matter your choice."

"I don't know what I want," you whispered, holding a pillow to your chest.

"That's okay too," he assured you. "I know it's too soon to make a real decision, but I just wanted you to know that no matter what I am here for you."

You turned your head slightly to see his tearstained cheeks, his eyes red and puffy behind his glasses.

"I'm sorry," you whispered.

You knew there was nothing you could have done to change the outcome but still it hurt too much to not be consumed by the endless list of 'what if's'.

He let out a gentle sigh, leaning down to envelope you in his arms. "Darling, you had nothing to apologise for."
