BACKSTORY

moana was born on the island of motonui to the chief, tui, and his wife, sina. she is the first and only child of the couple, so she was raised with the mentality that she would someday take over as chief. she always had a longing to discover more, more than just the island, and a curioisity for what lay beyond.

as a child, she would often roam down to the beach, enthralled by watching the waves, or playing with the sand. her father would often scold her, telling her she was not allowed to go there. at the age of 16, she realises that her island's fishermen can't catch any fish and the crops are failing. she learns that the demigod maui caused the blight by stealing the heart of the goddess, te fiti. the only way to heal the island is to persuade maui to return te fiti's heart, so she sets off on an epic journey across the pacific to convince him to do just that, after finding him that is.

she manages to find him after crashing her sailboat, and he reluctantly ends up helping her. together, they face all the challenges that come their way, and they manage to give te fiti her heart back, thus restoring the island's health. moana goes back home, where she is greeted like the hero she is, and she reminds her people about their own ancestors, who were wayfinders. she teaches them how to sail, and how to be able to explore the ocean, and return back home safely.

after a couple of years, people start to randomly go missing from her island, and as chief, moana needs to find out why. she searches for them, and for answers, but she finds nothing, until a wizard by the name of rumplestiltskin comes along, promising to return all her people, and to make sure they all stop vanishing, - at a price, she owes him a favour. she agrees, willing to do anything to get her people back, which she does, and they live happily for a while.

after a bit, rumplestiltskin tells moana he is cashing in on their deal, on the favour she owed him. he wanted her to find something in the enchanted forest, an ancient relic of sorts. she accepts that she has to help him and travels to the enchanted forest and spends months there, meeting some people along the way and making new friends (such as ariel, ruby, snow and charming). when she finally found it, a thick black smoke appeared around her, and she was in storybrooke, with no memories of her fairytale life.

STORYBROOKE CURSE MEMORIES

katelyn was a swimming instructor in storybrooke. she taught children and adults to swim in the city pool. she had a deep fear of the ocean due to a trauma she remembered going through as a teenager, where she had lost both her parents. now she sticks to the pool, and she never dares go near the docks, too scared.

she loves to read, and she would like to travel, and see more of the world, but she does not want to leave the comfort, familiarity and safety that is storybrooke, so she stays there.
