CHAPTER 13:
JUST LIKE ANIMALS.
Anna

I rested my hand over my stomach, knowing that our activities had me with child. Although it had only been a fortnight, I had missed my cycle and it confirmed that Daemon and I were going to be a family.

That I would be protected.

And that Rhaenyra would always be in my life.

"You look absolutely beautiful, Princess Rhaenyra."

Rhaenyra saw me from the mirror as the maids finished her braids and tidied up any loose ends on her gown.  I knew that from the longing look in her eyes that she wanted to take me and run to Dragonstone, and ride Syrax to find Daemon.

Just the three of us.

In peace.

"Thank you, Lady Anne," She smiled, fidgeting with her fingers.

"Green earrings?" She questioned, seeing my black and red gown but dawning green upon my ears.

"The Hightowers are coming too, Princess. I must still show some semblance of loyalty, even if they are backstabbing cunts," I said, my hand absent-mindedly resting on my stomach and her eyes stayed there.

"Ladies, you are dismissed. I wish to converse with Lady Anne in private,” And they remained as the ladies exited the room, and I felt a sudden tension in the air.

“You are with child. That day, when you were not here, you were with Daemon,” She turned to me, “how could you go to him? After he abandoned us-”

“I needed to protect myself, Rhae-”

“I would have protected you!” She cut me off, anger burning in her eyes.

“Viserys knows. . .if you put yourself in any further danger, then he would have no choice but to have my head. This way, I know that Viserys will protect me. You know your father, and he would not abandon his family,” Just like Daemon. It had been a long fortnight, and Daemon knew the risk of letters so we have had no contact.

“Are you absolutely sure? That you are with child?” She was hesitant, looking at my stomach.

“I have had no bleeding, and I have had an appetite for strange things,” I confessed, joy filling my heart at the knowledge that this would force Viserys to bring Daemon back to King's Landing, and he could then be with me.

With us.

“But I am to be married. I do not wish to be without you nor Daemon. It’s not fair,” I knew it wasn’t, but that is why I had a dagger sewn into my dress.

“If you wish it, we can say. . .someone snuck in while you slept and-”

“Kill Laenor?” She questioned.

“It is the only way I see us all being together. Kill Laenor, take us all to Dragonstone, and we shall marry just as Aegon married his sisters,” I could see that she was very much conflicted on this matter. Laenor is a good man, but he stood in the way of us.

“I cannot do that to him, Anne. It would be too cruel.”

I knew I was not that type of person, but what other choice do I have? The two people I love most in this world were being taken from me.

I sat by Alicent during the ceremony, watching as Rhaenyra laughed and was having a joyous time with everyone. I was not aware that the drink she had before me was an herbal tea prepared by the maesters until I brought it up to my mouth, and the striking scent caught me off guard.

“What is the matter? Drink up,” Alicent smiled.

“So you know,” I said, looking at her as I set down my cup.

“It is horrid.”

“What choice did I have? You would not even look at me, sister. The fear that you would have me abandoned was too great,” I could not say that I understood her or her pain, but this gave her no excuse to act in such a manner.

“You could have came to me-”

“Knowing that you would have chastised me for it. And now you try to kill my child, all while I do nothing but love and adore your own,” I told her. Aegon and Aemond were little joys, and I absolutely adored them. I saw the pain she held, for she could not connect with her sons so quickly. She loved them, yes, but I could see that there was a very thin line of patience with her.

“Father poisons your mind, sister. For that, I am glad he is gone,” But before she could say much else, screams erupted and a crowd gathered. My eyes darted towards Rhaenyra, who was being cornered and shoved.

“Rhaenyra!” I cried out, seeing her discomfort and pain but luckily, Ser Harwin Strong had muscled his way through the crowd and picked her up. Unfortunately for the groom, there was no sadder day than this.

And for the bride, she had to witness both her lovers being whisked away through politics and love.

I am just thankful that she was there for me when it came time to deliver my child.

Or, should I say, children.
