Amber's POV:
Hopper and Joyce had been arguing about her magnets falling off her fridge. And we were scouting our different places where this machine could be that made them fall off. Hopper huffed and said "Larry's such an idiot." "Mr. Kline?" I said. "Yeah. Selling those people's land." "Isabelle's dad?" Hopper stopped the car and said "Isabelle? Isabelle Kline? Is Larry's daughter?" I nodded and said "yeah I thought you knew that." Joyce looked at him and said "what's the matter?" "Isabelle. Do you guys remember her going missing? She went missing for like a week?" Joyce thought about it and said "no I don't think so. It wasn't really made public." "I know. They never came to me. Him and Winnie. They came to me after. She was in Hawkins Lab, like El was." "El? Who's El?" I asked. Hopper began to explain who El was and what's happened the last couple of years which is why Joyce was freaking out about her magnets. Isabelle, has some kind of power like El and Larry had it removed. Supposedly. He made me keep quiet about it but still wanted to make a report. I think she knew El and I think El knew her. I noticed it when I found some documents about El. When I adopted her." Joyce took a breath and said "those poor girls." I didn't even know that about my best friend. I don't even think she knew the full meaning behind what happened to her. Hopper resumed driving and we arrived at the last farmhouse. "Once again, Amber, stay here. I can't have you getting hurt. Turn off the car and stay low." Hopper said. I nodded and did as he said. He locked the car as him and Joyce got out. I laid on the floorboards in the backseat so I wouldn't be seen. I had been with them for the majority of the day she sleep eventually took over my body. I woke up to yelling, Hopper's yelling. I sat up and saw him and Joyce with another man running out of the house. "Drive, Joyce!" Hopper said, throwing his keys at her. I quickly hopped in the front seat and everyone began piling on the car. A man with a gun walked out of the house and Hopper said "Joyce, drive." Joyce kept putting the wrong keys into the ignition and said "I'm trying!" "Joyce, drive!!" Hopper screamed. I watched the man aim his gun at the car and Joyce backed out of the driveway. "Get down!" I said. Joyce screamed as bullets hit Hopper's truck and we sped away, driving off into the night. The panic we all endured was so immense that I hadn't even noticed our new passenger. Joyce stopped and Hopper said "I'll drive." I got out of the car and let Joyce sit where I sat. Hopper got into the car and I opened the back door. A loud gasp left my lips as I saw who was sitting in the backseat. "Alexei?" The curly haired man looked over at me, sliding over to the other seat. "Amber? Is it really you?" He said. "Oh my god. Oh my god." I said, not being able to process what was happening. Joyce turned around and said "Amber, are you ok?" "You know him? How do you know someone from Russia?!" Hopper said. Joyce and I both shushed him and he scoffed. "I demand an explanation!" Alexei looked at Hopper and said "why do you deserve an explanation when you kidnapped me?" Hopper turned around to look at him. "Why are you speaking to me? I can't even understand you." Joyce shook her head at Hopper and said "Amber just get in the car." Alexei slid over so I could get in and Hopper sped off once again. Hopper drove like an idiot to be honest. I saw that Alexei was in handcuffs. I touched his wrists and he looked at me. "Do these hurt?" I asked him softly. Alexei shook his head and said "they're just uncomfortable." I nodded and he didn't look any different from the last time I saw him. But he did look like he had been through stuff emotionally, stuff that I could never begin to understand. "You were in Hawkins this whole time?" I said. Alexei nodded and looked down. "I hated lying to you. But that man, at the farmhouse, I did what I did because of him. He would be the one to call on the phone. I didn't want him to ever know you existed." I frowned at him and Hopper said "can you understand him?" "Yes." I replied. "How well?" "I understand the basics and most of the language but not all of it." Hopper sighed and said "then we're going to Murray's." "Who's Murray?" I said. "A friend who will help us understand him." Hopper said as he looked in the mirror at Alexei. Joyce leaned against the window and I assumed we'd be driving all night so I told Alexei to get some sleep.

I woke up to Hopper kicking the side of the truck. Joyce stood outside scolding him for it. Alexei jumped up and looked around, we were in the middle of the woods. Hopper walked over to Alexei's side of the truck and pulled him out. "Come on." He said. He handcuffed him to the tree and I said "don't hurt him, Hop." Hopper turned around and said "I'm not." I nodded and Alexei leaned his head against the tree. Hopper popped the hood to his truck. He was trying to fix it. The heat was getting worse as Hopper couldn't fix the truck. Alexei wiped some sweat off his face and I said "you ok?" He nodded and Joyce walked over. "Hi, Alexei?" He nodded at her and Joyce began talking to him about the magnets. Hopper decided he was not going to call Alexei by his name. He was going to be know as Smirnoff. Joyce was trying to explain to him about everything that's been going on and Alexei adjusted his glasses on his face, nodding to her, letting her know that he was listening.

"You were working on a machine?" "Machina." Alexei said. Joyce smiled really big and said "yes, machina." She imitated the sound of a machine and Alexei said "da. Da. Machina." Joyce nodded and he said "vroom vroom." Joyce turned to look at the car and said "no, not the car."

Alexei furrowed his eyebrows and said "no vroom vroom?" Joyce shook her head and Alexei made a puzzling face, something he did when he was thinking. He was trying to understand her and I smiled while biting my lip. I missed him so much and the whole time he was here in Hawkins. "Smirnoff can't understand you, Joyce." Hopper said. Joyce walked away from Alexei to talk to Hopper. I walked over to Alexei and said "that's Hopper. And Joyce." Alexei looked at the two of them and pointed to Hopper. "Hopper?" I nodded and he pointed to Joyce. "Joyce?" I nodded again and said "yep." He adjusted his glasses again, watching Joyce start up the car.

The truck made a sparking noise and Alexei began to try to tell them it was going to explode. "Stop! Stop!" Alexei said in English. Hopper turned around and said "shut it, Smirnoff." The truck sparked and Joyce said "shit." She jumped out of the truck and Hopper ran away from it. The truck blew up and Hopper ran over to where Alexei stood. I didn't even notice that Alexei had pulled me away from the burning truck. "Stop." He said to Hopper. Who just glared at him. Alexei had his hands on my arm and I looked down at them and he removed his hands. Hopper removed him from the tree and said "we're walking." "To?" Joyce said. "Illinois." Hopper replied. "What?" Joyce and I said at the same time. "Walk it out." Hopper said. I groaned and stayed behind Hopper whole Joyce walked next to him. Alexei began to lag behind and I said "you ok?" "It's hot." He replied. I grabbed his hand and said "I know. But you gotta keep up." He nodded and walked next to me. A few minutes later he lagged behind once again. Hopper grabbed him this time and pulled him up to where he was. Then Joyce said something which caused Hopper to lean down to her level to talk to her. Then I saw Alexei in my peripheral start running. Joyce said "oh." "What?" Hopper said. "He's running." Alexei jumped over logs and all kinds of things to get away from Hopper. I chuckled, knowing he wasn't going to get far. "Son of a bitch!" Hopper said as he took off after Alexei. "Smirnoff! Get back here!" Hopper yelled. I heard Alexei laugh as he continued to run. Joyce and I ran after the two of them and Alexei found a clearing.

A 711 stood in front of us. Joyce sighed in relief and I said "wow." Hopper pointed to it and said "go." We all began to cross the street to the gas station. Little did we know Hopper was about to pull a whole operation.
