The rain fell continually that fateful day. Noises of the bustling city could be heard, even on the most outer reaches of town.

A white-haired female wandered through the streets of Yongenjaya, her rain boots thudding against murky puddles that formed on the asphalt. Her soaked hair stuck to her pale complexion as she groggily stared down the way she was headed.

She stopped in the middle of the street, and hung her head low. The voices only continued to echo in her head, "It's all your fault!" "I wish you were never born!" "You are such a disappointment."

"You should just die already..."

She couldn't even begin to process what happened- the entire scene flashed in her head as she clenched her fists tightly.

Her mother's bloody corpse laid lifeless on the floor, her father unconscious on the demolished couch. And a small but sturdy bat laid a few feet in front of her, the bright sheen of blood was plastered all over it. And nobody else was there.

And blood was found all over her.

She didn't remember what happened. So she did the most unreasonable thing- She ran away. She didn't belong there.

She shut her eyes and ran onward for no apparent reason. It didn't take long before she ran into somebody. They collided with a huge THUD, and she fell to the soaked ground, and the two forms let out an "Oof!"

She rubbed her head gingerly, and opened an eye. "What the-" the other person was right there in front of her... Well, in front is a way to say it.

Apparently her momentum was so great that the other figure fell backwards, and she fell on top of him. And in front of her was a black-haired boy around her age, and she immediately rolled over and sat up. "I-I-I'm sorry!" she apologetically cried out.

The boy sat up before responding "Yeah, no worries... I'm fine." He rubbed the back of his head.

"Okay. Well anyways-"

"Why were you running?" He cut her off abruptly.

"What do you mean by that?"

"Nobody our age runs in the rain, looking ready to cry."

Cry? She placed a hand on her face, only to feel the warmth of her cheeks, with the tears flowing from the eyes. "I-It's nothing."

"It's obviously not nothing if you'll just deny it."

Was this kid serious? Was he not going to leave her alone when she wanted to? "I-"

"Nevermind that. What's with your eye?"

She eyed him suspiciously. "Why you need to know?"

"You've kept it closed the entire time. Besides, you're not wearing an eyepatch, so what is it?"

"If I tell you, you'll be like the rest."

"Why's that?"

"They all give me the same look."

"Try me." He stared into her open eye with pure sincerity. And that made her wonder if he could be different.

After thinking it over a few moments she nodded her head. "O-Okay, but don't be scared please."

"No promises."

She glared at him in return. She then nervously began to slowly open her right eye, revealing a light purple eye to contrast her radiant green eye.

"Huh." was all he said at first.

"I told you you'd be-"

"It's actually really cool."

"Huh?" She was genuinely confused at this boy. First he brushes his pain off, and now he says that her heterochromia is cool.

And she felt her cheeks begin to heat up as blood rushed to them from his genuine comment. He, however didn't seem to notice this, and he changed the topic.

 "Alright then. Let's start over."

"Start over?" She cocked her head to the side, confusion gleaming in her eyes.

"Yeah," the boy stood up, and held his hand to her, "The name's Ryuji Sakamoto, nice to meet you."  He shut his eyes, tilted his head, and gave her a cheeky smile.

She gingerly reached his hand, and clasped it within her own. She stood up, meeting his deep brown orbs.

"The names Kanari," she smiled back, "Kanari Sutsunomi. Nice to meet you Sakamoto-kun!"

"Likewise Sutsunomi-chan. I hope to be great friends with you in the future!"
