Just as Hanuman was thinking of a way to convince Angad to continue the expedition, hope came in the form of an old Gidd attacking them.

The vanars became alert as they raised their weapons at the old bird, who was quick to deduct he was outnumbered and couldn't hunt them. Shaking his head he backed away.

"Rehne do, mai vridh ho chuka hu." He said backing away.

"Dekhne se toh Gidd-raj pratit ho rahe hai aap. Apna parichaye dene ki kripa kare." Nal said.

"Mai Arun-putra Sampati hu." He said.

"Jatayu bhi toh Arun-putra the na ?" Angad asked.

"Jatayu ? Tum Jatayu ko jaante ho ? Woh toh mera chhota bhai hai. Varsho ho gaye usse mile." Sampati said.

At that the Vanars looked at eachother and then at him. He wasn't aware of Jatayu's fate.

"Kaisa hai mera bhai Jatayu ? Kushal toh hai ?" Sampati asked.

"Sampati, atyant dukh ho raha hai yeh baat kehte kintu Jatayu nahi rahe." Jambuvant said.

And hearing this Sampati was taken aback, he loved his younger brother very much and the news shattered his heart.

"Satya ? Jatayu nahi raha ?" Sampati asked.

"Yeh satya hai Mahanubhav. Jab Ravan, Dashrath-nandan Shri Ram ki patni Devi Sita ka haran karke le jaa raha tha, toh unki Raksha hetu aapke Bhai rakshaso ke uss krur raja se lad bhidhe aur veergati ko praapt huye." Jambuvant said.

"Oh Jatayu...." Sampati fell on his knees out of grief.

But soon his grief was turned into rage, as he snapped his head towards the sea, with his vulture vision he could see Devi Sita in Ravan's Lanka. He stood up and addressed the Vanars.

"Jis Ravan ne mere bhai Jatayu ki hatya ki uska naash hoga ! Suno bandhuo, meri gidd-drishti se mai yaha se Devi Sita ko Ravan ki Lanka mei dekh sakta hu." Sampati said.

"Devi Sita Lanka mei hai ?" The Vanars were elated hearing the news. Now the Vanars could go to Kiskindha without the fear of Sugreev.

"Ha. Yaha se 100 yojan dur ek tapu hai. Wahi Ravan ki Swarniya Lanka hai." Sampati said.

Now arose a dilemma, all of them cannot cross the length of 100 yojans over the ocean. The Vanars again became despondent but Angad's spirits were lifted.

"Nirash na ho bandhu-jano, yeh sahas haarne ka nahi dikhane ka samaye hai. Nirash vyakti ko kabhi safalta nahi milti, yeh smaran rakho." Angad said to cheer the Vanars up.

He enquired his contingents how far they all could leap. Some said 60 yojanas, some said 80 yojanas. It was concluded that no one except Angad could cross over 100 yojanas and come back also.

"Mujhe hi jana hoga." Angad said.

"Nahi kumar. Neta ke netritva ke bina, humara dal saath nahi reh payega. Aapki raksha karna humara kartavya hai." Jambuvant said.

"Toh mere alawa kiske paas 100 yojan tak jaane ki aur lautne ki kshamta hai ?" Angad asked.

"Ek vyakti aur hai." Jambuvant said looking at Hanuman who had remained quite till now.
