By confirming the whereabouts of Devi Sita, Hanuman had achieved the task assigned to him. But he wasn't just a minor follower who will only do what he was told, he was a man of wisdom.

After bidding farewell to Devi Sita, he decided to make a good assessment of the strength of Ravan's army and commanders because war was a very real possibility. The information about Lanka's war preparedness would come in handy in the war.

This will allow the Vanars to compare their strengths and weaknesses versus that of Ravan and decide their plan of action.

Besides, Hanuman had a keen desire to meet the king of Rakshasas face to face, to gauge the strength of his forces and also to give the people of Lanka a peek of his own powers.

'Yeh Vatika atyant Sundar hai. Yadi mai isko nasht kar du toh Ravan awashya kupit ho apni sena ke saath mujhe bandhi banane aayega. Woh mujhe parajit toh kar nahi sakta kintu mai apne bal aur shakti ka swaad use chakha sakta hu. Ravan bhi toh jaane, kiske saath shatruta paali hai.' Hanuman thought.

And thus he began uprooting trees and shrubs, crushing the hillocks, crushing of huge boulders and destroying the water ponds. In no time, Hanuman lay waste to the entire garden.

The birds and animals began to make terrified noises added to the commotion and alerted the guards. This is what Hanuman had intended and when the Rakshas guards came near, he expanded his body to a mammoth size and scared them away.

The Rakshasi women who were guarding Devi Sita became startled seeing such a massive creature. They remembered seeing something similar looking but smaller, talking with Devi Sita.

They rushed to her and asked her about him, but Devi Sita couldn't endanger Hanuman's life.

"Bata Sita kaun hai yeh !? Tujhse baat kar raha tha na !?" They asked.

"Mai kaise jaanungi ki yeh kaun hai ? Maine aaj se pehle ise kabhi nahi mili. Ise dekh mai bhi bhayebhit ho gayi thi. Mujhe toh yeh swayam koi shaktishaali Rakshas pratit ho raha tha." Devi Sita feigned ignorance.

The guards rushed to Ravan's court to inform him about ravaging of his garden by a gigantic Vanar.

"Kadachit ise Indra, Kuber ya Ram ne bheja hai." They assumed.

Ravan was obviously fuming with rage. He ordered a division of his army to be sent to Ashok Vatika and imprison the offender, who were quick to get on their feet.

Reaching the ravaged Vatika, as they encircled Hanuman to catch him, he roared loudly and purposefully disclosed his identity. It was necessary to break the self-assumed notion of Ravan that he was invincible.

"JAI SHRI RAM ! JAI HO LAKSHMAN KI ! JAI HO SUGREEV KI ! MAI HU VAYU KA PUTRA AUR RAM KA DAAS ! MAI HU HANUMAN, APNE SHATRUO KA KAAL ! DEKHO MAI LANKA KO DHWANSH KAR KAISE NIKALTA HU YAHA SE !" He proclaimed.

Hanuman was more than a match for the soldiers gathered around him. They all died at his hands. Before Ravan could send another set of troops, Hanuman set on fire the sacred area of worship of Lanka.

With clear instructions to either capture or kill him, Ravan sent another set of troop who were also killed by the might of Hanuman. The king of Rakshasas couldn't deny that this Vanar was not an ordinary one.

"Mai atyant shaktishali Vanaro se mila hu jaise Vali aur Sugreev.... Kintu isse adhik shaktishali, buddhimaan aur tejasvi aaj tak nahi mila... Aisa pratit hota hai ki iss vanar ko mere kisi shatru ne bheja hai Lanka ka naash karne ko. Yeh koi Vanachari Vanar nahi ho sakta, iske bal ko halke mei mat lo aur shigreh use pakdo !" Ravan ordered.
