"Incineration?"

The hobbit reading through the contract seemed rather put off by the insinuation that he might be burned into a million bits of ash by a dragon on a dangerous quest.

You, on the other hand, were excited by the idea and so snatched the paper from his hand.

"Oh, come on Bilbo, where's your spirit of adventure! I'll sign it!"

Your husband stared at you in shock as the dwarves clustered around your dinner table gave shouts of approval. You signed the contract with a flourish as Bilbo's face fell. It was clear he hadn't expected this at all, and you felt bad about it but reassured yourself that he knew when he married you that you were not an average hobbit. The dwarves now turned to him in anticipation. He looked to you and you offered him a hug, but he sighed and stepped back.

"As much as I love you, Y/N, I can't do this. And I can't let you do this. Please."

You felt tears spring to your eyes. You stiffened your shoulders and shook your head.

"You cannot stop me, Bilbo. Have you heard what these dwarves have said? They have lost too much for me to stand by. I would never be able to give my word honorably to anyone again if I turned this down, can't you understand? Bilbo, you know how I am. You know I can't let them go without one of us. So what do you say? Either you're coming or not."

Bilbo lowered his head and stepped forward, wrapping you in a tight hug before retreating once more.

Response 1:

"I'll wait for you, Y/N. Just promise you'll come back to me."

"I- I promise, Bilbo. I love you."

You felt the tears stream down your cheeks as he swallowed sadly and headed out of the room. You sunk into a chair beside Bofur, one the dwarves, and he wrapped an arm around your shoulder in sympathy, reassuring;

"Don't worry, lass. We'll get you home to him as sound in body and spirit as the day you left."

OR Response 2:

"Where's the pen?"

You smiled at your husband as he wrapped an arm around your waist, looking at you with love yet exasperation.

"I love you, Y/N, and there's no way I'd let you go out there on your own."
