Chapter twenty three
Quicksand
Ryssa's POV:
Before we knew it, the First Order and the Knights of Ren were after us. All led by Kylo Ren himself. We were knocked out of the air, falling into a pit of sand. "We're sinking!" Grover said. Finn looked around and Rey struggled to stay above the sand. "Poe! Don't let me go under! Poe!" Coral quickly said before she went under. Coral!" Poe yelled. My eyes widened as Coral disappeared beneath the sand. Finn looked at the spot where she was before. "Nephle?" Sebastian said as he went under. Her eyes widened and she went under. I gasped and Remus said "Ryssa, I'm gonna go under." I reached for him and said "no. No!" Grover went under and Poe reached for Finn but went under. "Poe!" Finn looked at Rey and I noticed Chewbacca, 3PO and BB-8 had gone under. "Remus!" I said as my younger brother went under. Rey looked at me and I felt myself beginning to drown in the sand. "Queen Dartsen!" Rey said as she reached for me, but it was too late. I was already going under. I gasped as I landed in someone's arms. "Gosh, I thought we were goners." Remus said. "Me too." Coral replied. I immediately hugged my brother as he set me down. Finn fell through the sand, landing on the ground. I pulled away from Remus, happy that he was alive. Grover looked around at the cave we were in. Rey squealed as she landed in Poe's arms. "You ok?" He asked her. Rey nodded and said "yeah." "How do we get out of here?" Nephle said. Poe set Rey down and Sebastian said "we're in some cave. We're probably never getting out." Rey looked at him and said "do you have any hope?" "I know death when I see it." Sebastian replied. "I'm not dying in a cave. I'll be getting out of here." Coral said. Poe looked at her and chuckled. "What were you going to tell me?" Rey said. Finn looked at her and said "what?" "Before we went under the sand, you said you had something to tell me." She said. Finn shook his head and said "never mind." "Oh, you can tell your secrets to her and not me?" Poe asked loudly. Coral rolled her eyes and said "it's not a big deal." Rey ignited her lightsaber, the blue hue lighting up the cave. She began to lead the way. Ochi's belongings were in this cave. We then quickly learned that Ochi didn't make it out of this cave. The dagger. It told us where the wayfinder was but 3PO couldn't translate it. "The one time we need you to talk you can't?!" Poe said. Coral shook her head at him and said "is there a way we can translate it? Without him saying it?" Poe nodded and began to explain he knew someone that could help us. And it was at that moment, a creature in the cave emerged. Nephle looked up at it and said "what's our next move?" "Let's kill it." Sebastian suggested. "With what? Blasters?" Grover said. Sebastian shook his head and said "no. Rey and Ryssa. They have lightsabers." Finn looked at him and said "wow." Poe shrugged and said "it'd work." "No. I know something better." Rey replied. She approached the creature slowly, being careful not to make it upset. She stepped over it's long body and said "it's hurt." "Better to put it out of it's misery." Poe quickly said. "Poe!" Finn and Coral said at the same time. Remus stood next to me, observing Rey kneel down in front of this creature. Then the unthinkable happened. Rey began to heal the creature. My eyes widened and Finn said "how? When the creature was healed, it scurried away, making us a way to escape the cave. "I gave some of my energy to it. That's all." Rey said as she stood up. Nobody really questioned it. But everyone wanted to. We all went outside and began to try to make it back to the falcon. "He's coming." I said. Rey looked at me and said "I feel him too." "Start the ship. I'll take care of Kylo." I told the team. I began to walk out in the open. "Ryssa." Remus said. I turned to look at him. "Stay here." He nodded and I continued to go out into the desert, awaiting his presence. What I didn't know was Rey was going to follow me and do the same.
