Previously the Prince of Ikari, Aeris blames himself for what happened to his brother.

Since their parents died before either Aeris or Casio were eligible for the throne, Ikari was ruled by the nobles and other higher-ups within the King's Court. The people were angered at the injustice the current rulers were exuding, and sought to overturn the monarchy once and for all.

When the time came for one of the twins to take the throne, mobs stormed the castle and demanded the new king presented himself. Sensing the danger of the situation, Aeris claimed that he was going to be king. The mob instantly swarmed him with the intentions of forcing him to step down.

Before anything could happen, though, Casio stepped in and revealed that, in fact, he was going to be king, and that he swore to right the wrong done by the rulers before him.

Somewhat satisfied, the people returned home grumbling in disdain. It wasn't long into his rule that Casio fell fatally ill. Aeris searched desperately for a cure, but there was none to be found. As a last resort, he traveled to the lair of a sorceress in a neighboring kingdom. He begged her to help his brother, offering power and riches.

The sorceress said that she couldn't heal him, but she could stall the death until Aeris was able to find a cure. Unaware of her true, dark intentions, a desperate Aeris agreed.

Casio's heart and soul were locked deep within his own being, and a darker being took control.

Now known as Kage, the Prince of Shadows, this darker existence rules with a cruel, iron fist, scaring people into submission. Having no recollection of Aeris, Kage casts his own brother out.

Aeris is now known throughout the kingdom as some sort of vigilante/freedom fighter, fighting back against the oppression, all while still trying to find a cure for his brother.

Aeris is the leader of a resistance group known as Ryuu, and new members are joining all the time.
