The soft sound of the Mamma Mia soundtrack filled the girl's room as she picked out an outfit for school tomorrow. Putting in effort into how she looked made her relax and take time for herself. Leilani Hewitt was as detail-oriented as they come. From meticulously picking out her outfits the night before to color-coordinating everything like her closet and notes, the Hewitt girl made it her priority to know where everything was and to stay organized.

The same could not be said for her brother, Mason, and their best friend, Liam Dunbar. Across the hall, the two boys played video games in Mason's room and discussed Liam's first day at Beacon Hills High School, the local high school that the Hewitt siblings attended. Liam previously attended the prestigious Devenford Prep. Though if you were to ask Leilani, she would refer to the school as Douchebag Academy: Where we turn your child into a royal pain in the ass.

The trio had met the summer of sixth grade and became practically inseparable. Liam and Mason were the ultimate pair of best friends, even though the two boys couldn't be any more different. While Liam enjoyed getting in on the action on the lacrosse field, Mason preferred to sit on the sidelines and point out who he thought was attractive...and cheer on Liam, of course.

Leilani and Liam were like two peas in a pod. Where one went, the other was sure to follow. Granted, they didn't hit off much when they first met, but that was more so of Leilani's doing. She felt as if the Dunbar boy was going to take Mason from her. She always knew she was adopted, but Mason never made her feel like any less of his sister. They were close, doing pretty much everything together, so when Liam came into the picture, it made Leilani a little nervous. But once the ounce of jealousy subsided, she and Liam were basically glued at the hip.

The blue-eyed girl was extremely protective of the people she cared about. Naturally that meant Liam and Mason. She would hear people shit-talking her boys and would lose her shit. If there was one thing to know about Leilani Hewitt: don't fuck with her boys or she'll fuck you up. She was a relatively nice girl, but when it came to her friends and family, she'd go out swinging.

"Hey Liam, can you check on Lani and make sure her closet didn't suck her into Narnia?" Mason asked his best friend. He was too concentrated on the game to want to get up, plus he was extremely comfortable and did not plan on moving. But Mason knew that the moment he'd ask Liam for anything that had to do with Leilani, the boy would drop whatever he was doing and find the Hewitt girl.

"Yeah, of course," Liam said, swiftly getting up before having to stop due to getting hit by a dizzy spell from getting up too fast. "Shit, probably shouldn't have done that."

"Why don't you just man up and tell my sister that you're obsessed with her already?" the dark-skinned boy asked. "That is if she doesn't already know."
"What do you mean? Has she said anything? Do you think she likes me?" Liam rapidly fired questions at his best friend.

"I say this with the utmost love: you are many things Liam...subtle isn't one of them."
"I mean can you blame me? She's the closest thing to perfect there is and then there's me," Liam dejectedly sighed. "There's no way I'd ever have a chance with her."

Mason stayed silent for a moment. He knew what Liam was talking about. He was diagnosed with I.E.D and the Dunbar boy believed that his disorder screwed over any chance he'd have with the auburn haired girl. However, Mason was well aware of how far that was from the truth. Because while Liam spent his days dreaming of the day he grew a pair and told Leilani how he felt, Leilani would constantly mention the blue-eyed boy and whatever he did that day to bring her joy. They were two idiots who were madly in love with each other, yet too blind to see it.

So Mason, being the reasonable person he is, was determined to set his best friend and sister up by the end of the semester. Whatever it took, even if it resorted to slight violence.

Liam swore he could have seen stars with how quickly Mason slapped the back of his head. "Boy if you don't get up and go talk, you're gonna lose her to some douche who can't tell the difference between there, their, and they're."

With the little confidence that his best friend quite literally slapped into him, Liam walked across the hall, knocking on the door with a pink L on it waiting for the girl to answer. Hearing a soft come in, the Dunbar boy walked into the Parisian themed room, adorned with black, gold, and soft pink accents. The room definitely screamed Leilani and was fit for her persona.

"What's up, Li?"
"Mason just wanted me to come check on you," Liam nervously rubbed the back of his neck, looking for a reason to stay in the young girl's company longer. "What're you doing?"
"Just making some final preparations for tomorrow," the Hewitt girl smiled at the boy, signalling for him to sit next to her on the bed. "Speaking of, are you excited? Your first day at a public high school and not a fancy prep school filled to the brim with assholes."

"That's very true," Liam laughed, looking over at the girl next to him. "If I'm being honest, I'm kinda nervous."
"That's understandable," the auburn haired girl smiled. She definitely remembers how she was so nervous the first day that she practically cried to a boy during lunch...ok maybe it was Mason but she still shed a few tears. "It may seem a bit nerve wracking, but at least you'll have Mase and I there every step of the way."

And as the two smiled at each other, they both felt the cliche butterflies that came out to play whenever the two were in the presence of each other or when they were thinking of the other. Yet as always, they were both too scared to do anything about it. They were content with admiring from a distance than not being able to have the other at all.

"Wanna join us? We're gonna watch The Outsiders and thought you might want to join?"
"Oh hell yeah," Leilani laughed, grabbing a pillow and fluffy blanket from the ottoman in the corner of the room. "Gotta take advantage of our last night of freedom somehow."

Little did they know this would be one of the last times they got to hang out like normal teenagers. As we've come to find out,  Beacon Hills is quite literally a beacon for trouble.

𝑬𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝑺𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒔˗ˏˋ꒰ 🍒 ꒱

this is the first kinda unofficial chapter

for those of you who remember, the original prologue was a lot different from this. as someone who reads their own work, i quickly got annoyed by what i wrote...idk why, it just seemed immature and definitely was not my best work.

also quick little disclaimer: i insert little outfits throughout the chapter to show my character's style and how i picture them dresssing. some outfits might not fit your style, and that's totally fine. like i said, it's MY CHARACTER'S STYLE, NOT YOUR STYLE. if you don't like the outfit, that's great for you but please don't start leaving comments like "that's hideous" or "that's so 2010." yes, im aware that looks like something from ten years ago...the show came out in 2011.

anyways, please don't forget to comment, it helps keep me motivated and i like interacting with you guys

make sure you eat and drink something if you haven't yet, get some well-deserved rest, and remember you are loved <3

always,
emi 💖
