"Have you heard that Ahmad Sanusi is going back tomorrow?"

Nabeela almost threw out the food she was eating. She looked up from  her plate and asked, "Really?"

"I thought you knew? After all he is your bestfriend right? He didn't tell you?"

"I guess he forgot to mention it" She gulped, but the truth was they haven't talked in the last three months.

"We talked for hours Yesterday," Hafsah continued, Hafsah was her Mom's friend's daughter and was a little bit close with Nabeela. It was the kai lefe of Hafsah's brother. They had just come back from taking the lefe to the to-be wife's house and were eating dinner.

Hafsah continued talking about how close they were with Ahmad all the while breaking Nabeela's heart. Ahmad used to be her bestfriend. In fact, Hafsa started talking to him through her because of how close she used to be with him.

He graduated from the same school as hers last year and went to Cyprus to further his education. That was when she finally believed the saying 'distance spoils relationships'.  Immediately he went, their friendship became strained. They stopped talking daily, it turned  to weekly and so on. She knew he had come for his first summer vacation because she had seen it on snapchat. But can you believe he didn't even look for her at all. He didn't even text her asking where they should meet up. And she just heard from Hafsa that he was going back tomorrow.

The thing that hurt her the most was when she remembered how close she used to be with some people and how she was so sure they didn't even know whether she exists now or not. She felt like that kind of person that always gets replaced after a while.

She swallowed the lump in her throat and continued eating. She was so happy when her mom asked her to tell her brothers to get ready to go home. At least she could stop listening to the blabbers of how Ahmad is so sweet and caring.

He was still on her mind even as she tugged her brothers on the  bed and got ready to sleep. She searched for 'bestfriend' and seeing he was online, she started typing a message to him but soon deleted it when she noticed she was the last one that talked. Going back to her contacts she edited the name from 'bestfriend' to 'Ahmad Sanusi'.

Well, he doesn't derserve the title anymore, does he? A bestfriend is someone that would be with you through thick and thin. Someone that would be there for you no matter what. Someone that would never leave you. Someone that would never replace you.

Not someone that hasn't talked to you in the last couple of months. Nor someone that only talks to you after you talk to him. Nor someone that didn't even wish you a happy birthday.

It hurt like hell when she remembered how close she used to be with him. There was a time that she used to talk to him every day, every hour, every minute. A time when a day won't pass without hearing his voice, but now she hasn't talked to him in the past three months.

No, he wasn't her lover, he was just a close friend that she cared deeply about. She may admit that there was a time she had a tiny crush on him but it was nothing serious. He was just her friend, her bestfriend. Well, not anymore , she thought staring at Ahmad Sanusi's contact who was still online by the way.

She remembered the last time she saw him, he told her she will forever be his bestfriend and gave her a card. Shockingly, a year later he had already replaced her. She pulled a box from under her bed and picked up a card. It read

'My dearest bestfriend. Thank you for being in my life. I will miss you. With love Ahmad. '

And now to think he doesn't even talk to her hurts badly. She swallowed the lump in her throat one more time. Only one thing will stop her from thinking about him, Wattpad. She opened the app and started looking for a book to read. All the books she had in her library were either too boring, incomplete  or she had read them. She was about to close the app when she saw the book she recently added, 'Miss World or Miss Akirah'.

'He should man up and talk to her.
No, he musn't talk to her. She was the one that is supposed to talk to him first. After all, she was the one that broke up with him'. All these thoughts ran through his head.

It was so awkward, sitting exactly opposite her and not talking to her. Maybe talking to her as if everything is okay and they are nothing but friends will make it less awkward. And all his ex-classmates will stop giving them the kind of looks they were giving them. Some were like,  'what's wrong with these two?' others were like 'oh my gosh these two have finally broken up', and others were sympathetic, 'eyyah the cutest couple broke up'.

Urghhhhh! He knew from the very beginning that he would regret coming to this reunion, but after his bestfriend begged him to come, he had no choice but to come.

He looked up and saw her staring back at him then quickly looked down. "This is not going to be easy," he groaned.

"I'm going to kill you Adnan," he muttered to his bestfriend.

"Don't worry man everything will go smoothly you have nothing to worry about," Adnan said, but he was wrong because just then, their best song- 'what is love', started playing.

'What is love?
If you not here with me
What is love
If it is not guaranteed
What is love?'

He looked up again and saw her staring at him. There was a little staring contest between the two of them, none of them saying anything and none of them taking their eyes off  the other. It was when one of Akilu's classmate nudged his shoulders that he finally moved away from those creamy browns eyes that once meant the world to him.

That day was the worst of days for Akilu. He didn't hear a thing nor did he understand a thing. After all, who could understand anything sitting in the same room with the girl you thought you were going to marry but broke up with you two weeks ago? His mind was completely somewhere else; Those dates , those adventures, those messages, those night calls.

"Talk to her, you will feel better when you do that, trust me, just go and say hi," Adnan whispered.

Akilu looked up, seeing Niimah alone next to the food table, he started walking there. He was few feet away from her when he saw a guy, no not a guy, a man walking towards her direction. He stood beside Niimah and was laughing at something she said. It hurt, it really hurt.
Even though Akilu had no intention of eating any food, he had no other choice but to pretend his reason for standing up was food. He put his hands in his pockets, walked past them nonchalantly, nodded his head at the two of them and came back with a plate of food.

"So how did it go?" Adnan asked. Seeing a man and Niimah walking towards them he asked, "who is that man walking with her?"

Before Akilu could answer that question, Niimah beat him to it.

"Hello guys, this is my finaceé. Our wedding is in December In shaa Allah."

"OH My God, Ma shaa Allah,"

" That's so nice."

"Allah sanya alheri"

"Allah bada zaman lafiya,"

"You guys are so cute,"

"I'm so happy for you guys,"

"Our very first wedding,"

"I always knew Niimah will be the first one to get married among us,"

The whole hall roared up with those kind of words. But Akilu also didn't miss comments like,

"I thought she was going to marry Akeel, I can't believe it,"

At that moment Akilu's last piece of heart broke off. She was no longer his. She was getting married in a few months. He felt like running away from all this, but he was not a coward. He couldn't do that.

You know, that moment when you are just not yourself and everyone is looking at you trying to get a reaction from you. Akilu did the only thing he could think of, he just picked up his phone. He didn't even know what to do with the phone but he had nothing else to do. He started roaming through it and saw a little orange app he downloaded last two weeks. He didn't even know how to use it. He dialled his cousin's number. "How do you use this stupid app?"

After all the explanation, he opened an account with the name Baffamaitama and tried adding one book to his library. What's the tittle again?

Miss Duniya or Miss Akhirah?
Mrs Duniya or Mrs Akhirah?
Mrs World or Mrs Akhirah?

At last he found the book.

Miss world or Miss Akhirah?
