"What you need now is someone to listen to your story. You think and think and think only inside your own mind, and never let it out. No wonder your heart gets heavier and heavier......................."

Things looked blur and extremely impossible. Manjiri had never felt that confused as she was feeling at then. Nothing made sense.

She literally cherished all the tiny pieces of memories weaved with him together. But why those memories were turning into a big question mark for her, she wasn't understanding.

She perfectly knew that all relationships carried a perplexity of uncertainty with them. So maybe she shouldn't pry much. It could be just a phase. Maybe all her self-doubts and bitter feelings were pointless. Perhaps it wasn't like the way she was perceiving.

But what if it was all true? And just she couldn't see and figure it out.

She was the one who used to find comfort in her own silences. But off late, her own silence had began haunting her. It was extremely uncomfortable and overwhelming to be vulnerable and feel lost.

"Where are you all lost, Miru? I'm asking something. Can't you hear?"

Adishri yelled holding her back and walking up to Manjiri. It was then Manjiri realised that she had missed on whatever her sister was telling her.

"Yes. What did you say?"

"I had given you one thing to do but you forgot. When will you learn to be responsible?"

Adishri got worked up. She looked exhausted. Her one hand was on her back and other around her evident baby bump. Her back ache was worst that day.

"I'm sorry, Dii. I don't know how it slipped from my mind..."

Manjiri felt bad at her memory. How could she be so careless with regard to her sister's requirements?

"What sorry now?" Adishri asked taking a seat on the couch. She had sore feet. She added throwing her head back, "You were careless from always. Things have changed now, at least now start learning to take some responsibilities..."

Manjiri ran her hand through her own hair. She was so done with everyone's accusations and complains. What was really her mistake if she wasn't able to meet other's expectations?

"Dii, am I so hopeless that you too are fed up of me now?"

Adishri stared at her sister. She couldn't help but grumble at then.

"Miru, what happened to you? If I'll not tell where you're wrong and where you're right, then who will? I'm your sister..."

Cutting Adishri's words in the middle, Manjiri replied in a weak tone when an overwhelming emotion swept through her.

"That's what I'm saying that you're my sister, my everything. Then why are you treating me like the rest of the world?"

Muttering that Manjiri turned away to leave. She had enough of everything. She was so upset with herself. Why was she creating mess everywhere?

Hardly had she looked up, then her eyes fell on Shaurya who stood in the doorway. She wordlessly left and made her way up the stairs.

"Miru! Listen to me... Miru!"

Ashishri called out behind her but she didn't listen.

Shaurya looked at Adishri with concern. He had heard everything. Manjiri shouldn't have reacted like that. Her reaction obviously made her sister worry unnecessarily. She should have at least thought about her sister's delicate condition, she definitely couldn't climb up the stairs behind her.

It was then the realization hit him hard. He wondered if Manjiri was redirecting the anger and frustration she felt on him to her sister.

He walked in to have a word with Adishri. Maybe he could comfort her by distracting her mind with some other things. If Manjiri's anger was misdirected, as he assumed it was, then Adishri so not deserved it.

"No one will understand you. It is not, ultimately, that important. What is important is that you understand you........................."

"There are darknesses in life and there are lights, and you are one of the lights, the light of all lights....................."

Shaurya's steps faltered as he approached the doorstep of his room. The door was wide open. He could see Manjiri freely speaking with his nephew, Vaidik. That little human was royally sitting on Manjiri's lap with his arms around her neck.

"What do we call this?

"Chin." Vaidik spoke removing Manjiri's finger from his chin. "Now my turn, Miru."

"Ok. Ask!"

"What is this?"

Vaidik asked placing his small finger on his nose. Manjiri smiled exclaiming,

"This is my Vaidik's cute little nose."

"One more."

Vaidik suggested. To which Manjiri made a face.

"But it's my turn now?"

"No, my turn. What's this?"

Vaidik ignored and gestured his finger towards his mouth.

"It is called mouth."

To Manjiri's response, Vaidik shook his head continuously with his index finger dancing in the air. She chuckled at that.

"No, no, no. Miru wrong... Mumma told me this is called lip."

"We can call it mouth too."

Manjiri put forward adjusting him properly on his lap. But Vaidik still didn't look convinced.

"No, you're wrong."

Shaurya shook his head at that duo. Why was he even focussing on such a pointless conversation going on between a 3 year and 23 year old?

Although, he was amazed at his wife's swift changing temperament. A while back she was someone else and now with that little guy she was someone entirely different. How does she manage to maintain several personalities in one body?

"Either get in or out. What's the point of standing here? Coming in other's way uselessly, huh!"

Shaurya had to look behind when his sister's mocking words reached his ears. He offered her a blunt look.

"Excuse me?"

"Excused." Shreya passed him and walked inside the room. She added when she found the other two individuals inside the room peering at her, "Manjiri. Maa asked me to hand this over to you before leaving for the market place."

Shreya laid down a midnight blue silk saree before Manjiri on the bed. But before Manjiri could feel it's fabric, Vaidik jumped out from her lap to reach his mother.

"Mumma, Miru was saying that this is mouth. Tell her this is lip."

"Vaidik, get off this. It's Nani's saree, she'll not talk to you if it gets spoiled." Shreya threatened to make her son get off the sprawled saree. "And how many times do I need to tell you that we don't call elders with their names, huh?"

As soon as Shreya picked up her volume, Vaidik took no time in running out of the room. While Shreya couldn't do anything but to complain to no one in particular.

"He doesn't listen to me these days. Everyone has spoiled him with immense love and attention."

"Like mother, like son."

Shaurya remarked getting inside the room. Manjiri turned her face and made herself look over her mother-in-law's saree. She was glad that this time his mother chose and sent something which she actually liked. It wasn't a bright or gaudy colour. Neither too shimmery nor too flimsy. It was just as she wanted. Simple and sober.

"I think Vaidik requires some serious hammering just like his Shaurya Mama (uncle, mom's brother) does."

Shreya threw an indirect taunt in response to Shaurya's mocking remark and then took a seat besides Manjiri on the bed.

"Wear this one today. It will look so good."

Shaurya rolled his eyes. Previously it was son, and presently that son's mom. He didn't quite understand why that mother-son duo was engaging his wife in their purposeless talks. After all he had got something more important to talk to his wife.

"What's with you? Didn't like?"

Shreya quizzed on finding Manjiri looking lost.

"No, it's not like that. It's pretty, very pretty."

"Alright! Search for the matching accessories then. Get started now cause then only you would be able to get ready on time."

"Yes, I must be having something."

Muttering that Manjiri got up to walk towards her wardrobe. Shreya followed her.

"Okay, but if you don't find anything then you can go through this box. I'd brought it from my place for yesterday's function. I got a nice collection, you can try any if you want."

Shaurya noticed Shreya forwarding a box to Manjiri. No doubt he was liking the fact that his sister warmed up to his wife since their short trip to the temple. He actually had begun admiring Manjiri more ever since she had established a good bond with Shreya despite the rude comments and neglect Shreya had offered her before.

Suddenly the three of them heard a commotion from downstairs. Something must have collapsed. That sound was immediately followed by the noise of Vaidik's shrieking cries.

"Now, what did he do? This boy never lets me sit in peace." Shreya muttered walking out of the room with Manjiri.

Shaurya wanted to stop Manjiri from going but he couldn't speak anything. She was being very unpredictable lately.

_

_

_

Shaurya was searching for something inside his wardrobe and he had just put his phone on charging. Soon it began ringing.

Receiving the call, he put it on speaker and got back to what he was doing.

"Hello! Yes Priyal tell me."

"Hello Shaurya, what's up?"

"Sky!"

With a smug smile, he replied. And that was when he noticed that Manjiri was already inside the room, not bothering to even spare a glance at him.

"Wow! I didn't know that."

In response to Priyal's words, he quizzed.

"You called for?"

"Nothing! I was just asking about your plan for the evening. You're going there, right?"

For a moment, Manjiri went still. If Priyal would be there, then she shouldn't go. After all her presence wouldn't be required. She heard Shaurya replying to Priyal immediately.

"Of course! Don't tell me you're not coming."

"See, I want to but I'm also feeling awkward. You know I didn't meet Arsh in person after that day. Though later we managed to let bygones be bygones through social media. But still... You know, I'm confused."

Manjiri didn't miss to notice the way Shaurya look at his phone when Priyal said those things. His face had a shade of concern. He was concerned for Priyal but didn't even once express his concern for her.

"Priyal, didn't I tell you that day too that..."

"Ok, ok, don't start that again. Do let me know when you leave for there?"

"You want us to pick you up?"

That was it. No sooner did Manjiri hear him putting forward that offer to his friend than she made her way out of the room. It was so damn disheartening to hear both of them talk like that. She never used to feel troubled whenever they both used to talk before, then why was it so torturing at then? Perhaps, she should make an excuse to her mother-in-law for the evening. She was in no mood to go anywhere and especially where she would be nothing but an unwanted third party.

"Us?"

Shaurya heard Priyal quiz him that. He turned around exclaiming,

"Yes, us. Manjiri and I."

He was expecting Manjiri to be present there but she was not there. He wondered why was she avoiding him. They had arguments before as well but she never behaved in the way she was behaving from last two days.

"Oh yeah! Why I always forget that now my best friend comes in a pack of two." Priyal added with a light chuckle, "No, you're not supposed to pick me up. I avoid being the third wheel. Ok?"

"Ok, no problem. See you."

"See you. Bye."

"Bye!"

Shaurya took a sigh as the call got disconnected. Perhaps, he could now only get a chance to talk to Manjiri in the evening. Hopefully, she should not misinterpret his words at then and talk to him freely. And yes, he himself should be very careful with his words since he had made a deal with his grandmother. So he had to oblige.

"You have come too far to still be doubting your own capabilities..................."

_

_

_

"Please be gentle with yourself. you have already been through So much...................."

"Drive safely, Shaurya. And try to be back home timely. Don't make it too late."

Mrs Suniti Mohan instructed his son as they waited for Manjiri in the drawing hall.

"Ok Maa."

Barely had those words slipped from Shaurya's mouth, then he had to look up on hearing the clicks of the heels. He was floored. Blue was his favourite colour already, and blue on her enticed him in the most appealing and honest of ways. He couldn't help but stare at her. He felt captivated.

"You took your phone?" His mother asked Manjiri as she came and stood beside her. "Shawl?"

No matter how long he looked at her, it never seemed enough. She looked pretty, extra pretty to his eyes at then. He was undoubtedly charmed by all means. The slightest of doubt which he had that maybe it wasn't love but only a warm companionship which he shared with her, flew out of the window when she appeared in front of him. He willingly and gladsomely was under her spell.

"Ok, we're leaving."

No sooner did Shaurya declare that, then his mother corrected him.

"Say we'll be back soon in spite of leaving."

"Fine. We'll be back soon."

Shaurya announced making his way out of the house and towards his car. He knew his mother's list of instructions would not end so soon. That was why he didn't wait for Manjiri and got inside the car.

After a few minutes, she approached the car and opened the back door. He turned to look behind, baffled.

"Excuse me! Do you take me as your driver? Why sitting at the back?"

"I'm fine here. It would be more convenient for you to talk to your friend when she'll sit beside you. And after all doing anything for me is useless to you, you said it already."

Shaurya took a deep breath. Her words didn't make any sense and her eyes showed nothing. For sure, she wasn't playing with him. He again turned to look at her.

"Are you coming in the front or shall I go and call Dadi or Maa here?"

On hearing his words, she glanced at him. Was he serious? No, we wasn't. His eyes and expressions were literally challenging her. She exhaled sharply and got out of the car to sit in front.

Shaurya inwardly laughed at that. Flashing a victorious smile, he remarked turning the steering wheel.

"Wow! You're scared of my mother more than me."

"This is called respect. Love and adherence."

Manjiri spoke up, her gaze fixated outside. After a minute and some seconds rolled by, he hopefully asked her.

"You love and respect everyone at home?"

"This is the trial of those things only. Love and respect."

She admitted in a low timid voice, lowering her gaze. She didn't want to speak to him but there her mouth was escaping out a few words on it's own accord. He knew she could barely speak about her actual thoughts. And if now she was gathering some courage to speak up, he should at least encourage her to carry on.

"All reciprocate the same emotions to you as well."

"Not all. Few even say bitter things to me so that I start hating myself. Have got end of number of accusations, complaints and hatred in my share..."

She finally said it, though it rather came out awfully blunt. But she felt somewhat relieved, keeping that inside was only distressing the walls of her heart. Although that was just one thing from a whole lot of things which were inducing worry within her. She literally was experiencing a variety of emotions.

Her words slowly sank in his head. He looked away almost immediately on feeling guilty.

"What profit does you get after speaking such things?"

In response, she shook her head in negative, even though she knew he wasn't looking at her. It was just a failed attempt of her to hold back herself from pouring.

"Nothing. Just some endurance, patience and hope."

And as told, it was just a failed attempt cause her eyes pooled up just as immediately as she uttered the word 'hope'.

"I'm sorry, I was angry. You had said such things that I..." His words stopped on witnessing her face. "Please, don't be like this now. Don't you dare start crying."

"I'm not crying."

She replied wiping her tears off her eyes with the help of her fingertips.

"You're!"

He chanced a glance at her, his eyes desperately wanting to get locked with hers. However, she didn't allow that. She spoke out irritably.

"It's not your problem if I cry or laugh."

He was dumbfounded. Her state and words were confusing him.

"In what tone you've started talking to me, do you even realise?"

"Tone changes with the change in attitude."

Her voice became a notch louder towards the end. He couldn't help but look at her with a disappointment look.

"I'm still the same, Silly Head. It's you who seems to be changed. These days you just need a chance to shoot daggers at me. I feel like I'm walking on eggshells around you."

"Yes yes! It's me who is the bone of contention. So when are you leaving me?"

She quizzed him directly looking into his eyes. And then he realised that since the time she got seated next him, she hadn't bothered to look at him even for once. But what should he do with her choicest words?

"People should learn the art of talking from you. One would either become a scholar or would lost his all commands at his mental faculties the very next day."

"I'm serious, Shaurya."

She countered softly. She was unable to comprehend her feelings, emotions and ache in her heart. She wanted him to understand her, but not in that way where he only sympathise with her or be pitiful, but in a way where he actually validate and calm the continuous chaos howling within her without even questioning it's cause. As she herself didn't know what was the actual cause.

"I'm also serious, Silly Head. I perfectly know that right now no logic or reasoning will affect you cause you're in no mood to hear anything, only argue and argue." He explained and then added, "Everything can be cleared by talking..."

"Everything is clear, you just have to say it."

"Say what?"

"Nothing."

Manjiri voiced disheartened. Surely she had questions, not just a few but many. She wanted to know everything. However, she wasn't ready for his answers, as yet.

What if he too would admit that she's all wrong for him? Or he had found someone else for himself?

These things would be the last things she wanted to hear from his mouth.

Shaurya never felt that conflicted as he was feeling at then. In her every word, look and manner he could see complains and only complains. And that all in whole had started to make him feel that he was the worst person in the entire world. What did he do? What possibly he could do to undo everything which made her change in that way?

"You better sleep for a while. Be at peace and provide some peace too."

"I don't need fancy ways and shiny things, give me slow hands, honest eyes and full attention with ease... Give me priceless things........................."

_

_

_

"I thought we had a future. But now it's just a faded dream I'm left with only memories. And an emptiness that's hard to leave................"

"I'm so glad to see you."

Voicing that Arsh pulled Shaurya into a friendly hug.

"And I'm so glad to see you in this attire." Shaurya responded pulling back. Then he turned to look at Manjiri and held her hand. Manjiri took that as a cue to come forward, "Congratulations to both of you."

"Thank you!"

Arsh and his bride replied with a huge smile and looked at each other. Arsh instantly looped his arm around his bride's waist. In that moment, Manjiri was in awe. She had never really been a fan of people who are so much in love, except a few of course, but at then she craved that what the couple in front of her had.

But much to her dismay, it looked like her husband had suddenly forgotten that he was there with his wife. He was busy greeting his other school friends who were there on the stage along with the couple. And that was when Manjiri noticed that Priyal too was their in that small group.

For some moments, Manjiri's eyes stopped to regard Priyal's appearance. Much to her discontent, she looked marvellous in a grey coloured indo western attire. Her hair was in a fancy updo.

Her heart winced on realizing that Shaurya and Priyal were actually twinning.

Why was she herself in blue when he was in grey? Or why was he in grey when he knew she would go for blue?

She wouldn't lie in telling that she was feeling envious of the way he was looking at Priyal while talking.
She was envious of the way Priyal was smiling at him.
She was envious of the every stare and word they were sharing.
She was envious of the accidental touches they shared whilst laughing hard on someone's joke in that group.

She couldn't take that anymore. She murmured and hoped that Shaurya should have heard that.

"Please excuse me for a minute."

And he did hear her. He could see her walking down the stage. He instantly excused himself and followed her down the stage.

She didn't expect him to follow her. She quietly took a seat in the corner of an artificial fountain. He too settled down beside her on a chair.

"A word?"

He asked her and she shook her head in negative vehemently. He sighed heavily. Pulling the leg of Manjiri's chair towards himself, he closed the distance in between their chairs. He then asked again.

"What happened?"

"Nothing."

Her response was still the same. That was the time when she couldn't actually explain it to him that why she felt what she was feeling.

She so wanted to let him know but was unable to find the right amount of words to describe what all things, thoughts and actions were ill-treating her. He too was ill-treating her, whether knowingly or unknowingly, she was getting hurt by him and his doings at the first place.

"Tell me why did you abruptly come here?"

He quizzed trying to meet her eyes. But it seemed that she didn't plan to meet his gaze.

"I didn't feel like standing there. I feel tired."

"Seriously, Manjiri?" He asked turning the arm support of her chair to make her face him, frustration evident in his tone and doing. "Even I've become so tired now. If there's anything that's bothering you then tell."

"Look over here." On his demand, she finally upped her lashes to look at him. On locking his gaze with hers, he kind of begged, "Please speak!"

"Shaurya, I'm... You're..."

Before Manjiri could begin exclaiming, somebody intervened.

"Hello Shaurya. Long time!"

"Indeed! How are you?"

Shaurya got up greeting a lady in red. The lady smiled answering,

"I'm good. You?"

"I'm good too. Meet Manjiri, my wife." Shaurya looked at Manjiri. She got up pulling her lips to form a smile. Shaurya added looking at her, "Manjiri, this is my another school mate Trisha."

"Oh so this is your wife. Nice to meet you, Manjiri."

Trisha smiled at Manjiri. Manjiri exchanged that smile mumbling out.

"Likewise."

"That's what I was wondering you were with Priyal on the stage but talking to someone else here."

Trisha spoke up, focussing her gaze back on Shaurya. Manjiri tried to ignore her words. Suddenly a man approached them in hurry, Manjiri remembered him seeing him on the stage a while back. He particularly informed Shaurya and Trisha and then went to another group to inform.

"What are you guys doing here? Arsh is calling all of us schoolmates for photos. Come on."

"Come. Let's go."

Trisha suggested eyeing Shaurya. To which he shrugged, his eyes fixated on his wife.

"You go. I'll join later."

"Is everything ok?" She asked oscillating her eyes in between Shaurya and Manjiri. And then added, "Come on, Shaurya. We all barely meet once in a year. Don't be such a bore at least now."

"Manjiri, can I borrow your husband for a while?"

Looking at Manjiri, Trisha added with a tease. Manjiri nodded. Who was she to seek permission from? Manjiri thought. Her husband was already borrowed.

"See, she has given permission as well now." Trisha muttered looking at Shaurya and then suggested Manjiri, "You also come, Manjiri."

"No, I'm fine here. You both go."

She replied. Shaurya looked at her with an unsure expression in order to know what was actually going inside her head. But unfortunately, Manjiri just offered him a plain expression.

A very odd feeling consumed Manjiri as she sat alone. She had never felt that abandoned as she was feeling at then. Sitting there and looking at Shaurya posing for pictures with Priyal and several other individuals on the stage, she felt unsettled.

Her ears perked up on hearing his name from a woman's mouth who stood behind her with another woman. They had been chatting from so long whilst having food, but Manjiri didn't bother to give attention to their talks until she heard his name.

"Is that guy in grey Shaurya of A section, besides Priyal?"

"Yes, he is Shaurya. Priyal still looks the same. It seems like when it came to her, time has just paused."

Manjiri couldn't help but agree to that another woman's statement. Priyal literally was looking amazing. More distress awaited Manjiri when she heard something which she shouldn't hear.

"Perhaps that's why Shaurya is still with her. No updates about now but they were definitely a thing in school."

"They were nothing in school. It was just a made up thing. In fact perhaps Arsh and Priyal were in a relationship."

After that, Manjiri was unable to pay attention to those women's any other talks. She made her to look at Shaurya and Priyal feeling raw and hurt. She had been feeling like she was being watched for a while and when she looked up at the stage she understood why. Shaurya was too looking down at her. He was still in between of a few people but his gaze was intended on her.

They shared a history? Romantically?

She didn't know what to believe and what not to believe. Who to believe and who not to believe. She didn't even know whether her thoughts were aligned with reality or not. Maybe he was exploiting her state of mind or maybe she herself was doing so.

She had enough for a day. She so wanted to run away from there. She just wanted to go to bed and forget everything, preferably far away from him.

She hardly acknowledged Shaurya when he came back. Food was set at the table. And but obviously Priyal sat at the same table as them.

Manjiri didn't know if he invited Priyal or if she invited herself, or perhaps it was just Manjiri's crappy luck again. But that didn't even bother her much because what sickened her the most was the disconnection she felt between Shaurya and herself. Even the delicious food in front of her looked unappetizing to her.

She doubted if he sensed anything, but he was too busy having a conversation with Priyal and two of his other friends. A conversation which she wasn't part of and she was pretty sure that she wasn't welcomed there either.

A while later, just Manjiri and Priyal sat on the table. Shaurya was away. Manjiri wasn't sure but maybe he was with Arsh's parents, happily chatting with a older couple.

In order to avoid Priyal's presence near her, Manjiri chose her phone to distract herself. No sooner did she unlock the password of her phone than she heard Priyal's voice.

"I just realised that I don't have your phone number."

"You have his and that's enough."

Manjiri replied with a detached tone. Priyal's smile automatically shrank, she didn't expect that from Manjiri. She had always been sweet and polite with her before. Nonetheless, she smiled whilst asking.

"But what if I say I want yours too then?"

"It's your choice, you can have anything you want. Who am I to stop you?"

Manjiri responded. Priyal's alluring smile had made her wince. But what surprised her was that Priyal's smile had no malice in it. Or was she just faking it when she asked that.

"Are you being insecure?"

"Shouldn't I be?"

It came out from Manjiri's mouth in all honesty even before she herself could know it.

"Not at all!" Priyal muttered placing a hand on Manjiri's shoulder. She added with a smile, "Because who we genuinely like, we like no matter what. And who we don't like, it wouldn't even matter to us if he or she turns into gold."

Manjiri stared at her dumbfounded, confusion evident in her look. Why was it so hard to understand Priyal? What did she want?

"Manjiri, be thankful that someone is there to like you much... to come after you... to care for you... to appease you... to support you..." Priyal mumbled out very softly. Her each word was well-calculated. "He won't go anywhere cause he's for you. Remember Dr Sheena's words, he is a keeper."

All of a sudden Priyal's phone started vibrating. It was kept on the table. Manjiri's eyes inadvertently read the name which was flashing on the screen. It read - Vinay. An heart emoji was too added after it.

"I need to be somewhere. Tell him that I left cause someone was waiting for me." Priyal got up. Manjiri could notice Priyal's face blossoming in sheer happiness. Before Manjiri could ponder over the possible reason behind it, Priyal engulfed her in a goodbye hug. "Bye! Luck and love."

Manjiri nodded at Priyal before she turned and walked away. She stared at her retreating figure for a while perplexed by their conversation. Yet somehow something told her that she was going to need the luck Priyal just wished for her, fake or not.

Few minutes later, she saw Shaurya walking up to her in utter hurry. He was busy on a phone call, lines of worry were marking their presences on his forehead. She heard him utter before disconnecting the call

"Be at ease, Maa. Everything's going to be alright. We'll be there in 15 minutes."

"What's wrong?"

She asked restlessly. To which he first gave her a careful glance and then vocalised,

"They're taking Shri Bhabhi to the hospital. She's experiencing extreme discomfort. Her blood pressure shot up. Condition is serious."

"Be patient with yourself, you're working on it...................."
