Kaito smiled, a warm calm overcoming him as he silently slipped past the Kudo mansion's gate. This place was safe, there was no Aoko to yell or hit him, nor Saguru to attempt to pry out all of his secrets, there was just a lonely but honest detective. The magician would have never imagined that he'd actually become friends with a detective, especially not after meeting Saguru. The blond was just plain up rude, the guy just hid it behind his forceful politeness. Kaito hated it. He was so grateful that Shinichi was nothing like Saguru, except for liking Sherlock Holmes that is.

When he popped his head through the library's window, Kaito felt a sad disappointment fill him when he noted that Shinichi wasn't around. Despite the lack of the sleuth's presence, Kaito still slipped all the way inside, carefully shutting the window behind him. The mansion still felt safe without Shinichi's presence, it was just a bit lonely. That was fine though, Kaito was used to being alone, long hours as Kid had ensured that.

Since he had time to kill, the magician decided that he might as well redress his injuries. That way it wouldn't have to be done once Shinichi returned, it was best to optimize their time together. After all, one never knew when the next serial killer would come around and steal away his friend's attention.

Ah, Kaito shook his head, grimacing at the morbid thought. Poor Shinichi, he really shouldn't think jokingly of such things. He should know better than that, especially after Shinichi broke down after the last serial killer was caught. Great, now he felt guilty and wanted chocolate to cheer himself up. The problem was that he'd eaten the last of the chocolate the last time he was here. Though there was a small chance that Shinichi had already restocked on the chocolatey treats.

Curious, and craving the delicious treat known as chocolate, Kaito left the library and headed towards the kitchen. The magician immediately headed towards the chocolate cupboard and opened it, indigos lit up. It was full. Giddy, Kaito snagged a few solid milk chocolate bars before shutting the precious cupboard. He opened one, putting it in his mouth as he magicked the others into his secret chocolate pockets. The pockets were special, chocolate never melted in them... Except for when he forgets to empty his pockets before using the washer and dryer...

"Chocolate!" Kaito giggled to himself, having forgotten that he'd been planning to redress his injuries. Shinichi really was a great friend especially... The magician hopped over and checked the fridge, nodding at the familiar emptiness. Yup great friend, he remembers to restock the chocolate but not his own food. Kaito's shoulders slumped despite the warm fuzziness he felt inside. Shinichi really worried him sometimes.

Maybe he should restock the sleuth's fridge today, Ran was away on a trip with Sonoko apparently. The odds of Shinichi actually remembering to restock his own fridge were slim. Kaito savoured the taste as the chocolate melted in his mouth, he tilted his head a bit as he stared at the fridge. Why did Shinichi always forget to refill the fridge? He never forgets to refill the chocolate cupboard, it was odd. Shouldn't food be a higher priority than his chocolate?

Kaito checked the time on his phone, it was nearing 6pm... So judging from previous experience, Shinichi was probably working on a more complicated case or another one had just recently popped out and disrupted his journey home. There would be plenty of time to buy Shinichi some nice foods to fill up his fridge with. With plan in mind, Kaito headed off to the grocery store. Thankfully it was within a reasonable walking distance.

The magician ended up selecting lots and lots of things that had fair expiration dates. By his calculations, Shinichi should be able to consume everything before any of the meat or other perishables expired. Since summer was coming up in a few days, Kaito was planning on hanging around more than normal, mainly to escape Aoko.

When he was nearing checkout, Kaito paused spotting something that could make a very unusual gift. Though unusual, it also seemed so perfect. He immediately bought it. It would be the perfect thing to help boost Shinichi's morale when it came to being bad at caring for things. There was no way that his friend would be able to kill a cactus, so it would slowly grow, and Shinichi would feel a bit better about himself. The sleuth really disliked his on inability to care for things that weren't murder related, and had actually recently confided in him about it. Feeling proud of himself, Kaito bought the cactus along with the groceries.

Shinichi blinked, mouth watering a bit as he entered his house. Something was cooking, and whatever it was, it smelt delicious. Feeling a bit nervous, the sleuth peeked into the kitchen, letting out a relieved breath when he saw that it was just Kaito. Was it bad that he always dreaded the times whenever his mom came home? "That smells great" He stepped into the kitchen to greet the magician.

Kaito grinned "The soup should be done in a bit" He'd decided on a chicken and vegetable one for extra nutrients to make up for Shinichi's recent lacklustre diet "Oh" Kaito excitedly bounced over, pulling out a pretty blue pot out from somewhere "A gift"

"A cactus?" The sleuth accepted the pot, feeling a bit confused.

"Yup" Kaito nodded "I figured that taking care of something would be good for you" The magician's smile was soft "Since you're so busy, I figured that a cactus would be a good choice" And he just so happened to see a cactus.

"Oh" Azure softened as Shinichi looked down at the cactus in a new light, Kaito was so kind "Thank you, I'll take good care of it" He was not going to let this gift from Kaito die, it would live a long life, like it was meant to.

Seeing how happy Shinichi was, made Kaito really happy in return "I'm glad"

Me: Writing a book backwards has a certain sort of irony to it... Poor cactus, death via love...

Hmmm maybe another part...

Hope you enjoyed~

Favourite pop/one you tolerate the best?

I can't handle carbonated drinks much, but I like cream soda the most when I do actually drink pop.... Which is very rare
