Kaya's POV

Kaya ran out of school, searching for Chris. Sure she found him at the park, weeping, with a tree supporting his weight, but the image broke her from the inside. It bought back memories of herself from when she was weeping with no one there to hold her.

She hid behind another tree, careful not to make any noise since she didn't want him to notice her, and started typing on her phone.

The only reason she doesn't want him to see her is because she wants him to know that he can do it himself. She wants Chris to realise that he's strong enough to fight his demons. But she wouldn't mind fighting for him. She just wants him to realise he's got potential.

'Stop crying Chris. Stand up and go to the police.' She typed and sent. After a minute of composing himself, she saw as Chris read her text and sobbed again. He held the phone and Kaya could notice, from a few feet away, that Chris's knuckles have turned white from his tight grip on the object. He let out a loud, painful sob that could tear anyone's heart, and threw his phone. Kaya heard the phone hit something hard and break.

She stood behind the tree in shock, feeling her own tears run down her cheek. Can anyone be more broken than Chris?

He looked like an innocent child, no, he is an innocent child craving for care. For affection. For guidance. Craving for love. 'Is that too much for a person to ask?' Kaya thought. She saw herself in Chris. She saw her past in him and no one should have to go through such a stage where they are confused weather to live or die.

Yesterday, Kaya sobbed the whole day as Chris's cries kept replaying in her mind the whole time. They were so heart wrenching, so distressing, it drained her of all energy.

Chris is too innocent to go through all this. He's like the wax that melts once the candle is lit. Chris's candle was lit years ago. Anyone who looks at Chris could decipher that. It's only a matter of time before the flickering candle stops burning and a puddle of useless wax remains behind.

It's only a matter of time before nothing but ashes remain. Nothing but wasted dreams and unattended pleas for help are left to be buried uselessly.

Kaya couldn't sit there anymore. She couldn't sit and see as another person loses his life before her.

She couldn't do anything right the first time and now is a chance to right her wrongs. To save the unsaved. To fix the broken. To attend to the wounds that are too deep to be healed but is worth a try.

She stood straight, wiped all her tears and took in a deep breath before walking.

But what she didn't know was that, what she was doing, what she was about to do, would change her entire life. Mostly for the bad.
