Twenty-One. Put A Ring On It

It had been a week. Nevaeh stayed with her boyfriend for that long, before the two took a train to Barcelona. She always celebrated Christmas with Gavi, and she was glad to share the holiday with Jude, too.

Behind her back, though, him and Angela had been planning out this engagement for her. Nevaeh was a bit skeptical, noticing the two had spent an unusual amount of time together. They even tolerated each other, which wasn't normal for the duo. Nevaeh didn't want to jump to conclusions, but there was no doubt that she was fearing the worst.

Despite all of this, she didn't ask questions. Maybe they were just trying to get closer, end the petty fights they constantly had. She prayed that was the case. It didn't stop that uneasy feeling in her stomach, but she tried her hardest to ignore it and put on a bright smile.

Christmas had finally come around, and everyone decided to celebrate at Nevaeh's vacation home. Soon, she'd buy a real home in Spain, and not travel back and forth between New York and here. She adored the state and loved how busy it was, but she was starting a new chapter. New friends, new movies. . . Everything was starting to change.

She had invited João and Angela of course, then Gavi. Lamine and Héctor showed up together with Pau. Alejandro and Pedri had also arrived together. Nevaeh even invited Aubrie and Salma, despite Vaeh and Brie's friendship being a bit rocky at the moment. They had a falling out around the time Nevaeh had met Gabriel (who she had also blocked after he made a strange comment on her body), deciding to take a small break from each other. Once Nevaeh came back to Spain, though, Aubrie had contacted her and they were good again. It wouldn't be the same as it used to be, but at least they were okay.

The group of football players (+ Nevaeh, Angela, and Aubrie) exchanged gifts with each other. Lamine had broken a glass ornament after play-fighting with Héctor near the tree, so Nevaeh made them both sit outside in the cold for ten minutes. Gavi was talking about the possibility of romance sparking in his life with this girl named Kenya. He had showed Nevaeh a photo of her. She had to admit, the girl was gorgeous. She had no idea how Gavi managed to pull her.

Angela had pulled Jude to the side and softly asked, "Why didn't we have Christmas at yours? You were gonna propose to her on the beach."

He quietly replied, "Forgot my place is six hours away and that it's supposed to snow."

"Snow on the beach?" Angela gave him a look of disgust, shocked that he didn't know about it. Vaeh had always talked about wanting to spend Christmas on the beach one day, but Angie assumed that he didn't pay enough attention to her for him to realize.

"I don't know what I'm gonna do," he admitted. "The beach was a good idea, but, it's hours away and I know Vaeh's not gonna want to spend another six hours of her life on a train. You know how travel-sick she gets."

As they came up with another plan, Nevaeh had noticed the two were missing again. She saw them standing together in the kitchen. Vaeh did something impulsive, not realizing what she was doing until after it had already been done. She left Gavi by the tree to stare at his situationship on his screen, and walked into the kitchen. "Don't lie to me."

Angela and Jude stopped their conversation, looking over at an angry and confused Nevaeh. They looked at each other one more time before going back to Vaeh, unsure of what was happening.

"Are you two fucking?" The words just came out of her mouth, but there was no stopping now. "You're always around each other and being so secretive, it's like I don't even know who you guys are anymore."

Angela was the first to speak. "Nevaeh, I hate Jude. His face alone bothers me. You think I want to stare at that thing all the time?"

"Wow, okay," Jude rolled his eyes. "But she's right. I can't stand her, and I'd never do that to João. Most importantly, you."

"Then what's going on?"

Angela and Jude made another face to each other again, unsure of how this was going to go. Jude spoke, "Wait right here." He left the two girls, going into the extra bedroom in Nevaeh's home, and coming back out. Once he was back, nothing had changed. He had mouthed to Angela to go get something, and she, too, left. She went outside to her car, grabbing the gift basket for Nevaeh. She left it next to the door, so Jude could grab it and give it to her.

"Get your coat, let's take a walk."

It was six-thirty, so it was already dark out. Nevaeh hadn't noticed the extravagant basket sitting on the ground next to the front door at all, which Jude was thankful for. They had started walking down the street in silence, before Nevaeh broke it. "So, why'd you bring me out here?" The couple were now at a spot where there was no homes, no cars, nothing. Just the stars and moon in the sky and them. It was a field of different flowers, but most of them were dead by now due to the cold weather.

He stopped in his tracks, making her stop walking as well. "Nevaeh, I. . . I don't even know what to say. From the moment I met you in the tunnels, I knew I liked you. You were just so different from other girls I had met, and you were the only one who drew me in closer. I went home that night and lay in bed just thinking, 'Who is this girl and why is she taking over my thoughts?' I remember you saying 'vibing' there and then we'd start to say it to each other all the time. Then the second time we met at the café. I thought I was being set up when I saw you there, that some god in the sky was teasing and torturing me. But that god sent me an angel-you. When I asked you to be my girlfriend on your couch in New York and you said yes, I thought I was dreaming. That I was in some challenge to win you over between me or that Gabriel guy and I had won."

He continued on, "You are the only woman who has crossed my mind. It's only and always been you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Nevaeh." Nevaeh could feel her eyes stinging with tears, failing at containing a smile while he spoke.

"So, Nevaeh Haven Walker," he got on one knee, pulling a soft, black box out, "Will you marry me?"

She wouldn't have seen it from a mile away. Of course, the spoken love letter had touched her heart and made her fall deeper in love with him, but this? The proposal? She was definitely in too deep now.

"Yes," she exclaimed, tears falling from her face. He even shed a few tears, standing up and giving her a long hug and a passionate kiss. He put the ring on her finger, and she kept looking at it, in awe of how beautiful it was.

"You're gonna be Mr. Walker now," she joked.

"Whatever you say, Mrs. Bellingham."
