MATILDA...

I had a huge pile of paperwork in my arms as I walked into the file room. "H...hello, Miss Kringle." She gives me a polite smile. "Hello Miss Harper. I see you have been a busy bee helping everyone." I hand her the files and dust my hands on my polka dot skirt.

"Go...gotta stay busy here, o...or you'll go insane." I joke. Just then the door opens in there walked in Mr. Nygma. "Hello, Matilda. Miss Kringle." The way he said her name, you could tell he had a thing for her. Which is fine, I'm just trying to keep a low profile while I'm here. Miss Kringle on the other hand tries to avoid him by walking past but he sniffs her.

He's very peculiar..

"So I'm just looking for files on the Blackwater case 20 years ago..." He asks. I step forward. "Oh! Tha...that's in this drawer. That case is strange you know. Why would anyone dump bodies at Blackwater lake? Bodies swell after a while, and float eventually."

He laughs at that and I move my hair back with a small smile on my face. "Right indeed. The water does wash away fingerprints." He points out. "But it doesn't get rid of all of the evidence. R...re...remember the Goat ca...ca...case, Mr. Nygma?" He places his hand on my shoulder. "Remember, just Ed." I nod, biting my bottom lip and he glances at Kristen. "Remember to sign out any evidence you pull." She glares at him and leaves the room. "How does she find anything in this room?" I shrug his question. "B...beats me. I wa...wan...want to organize it, bu...but she says it's perfect the way it is."

"This place is in shambles." I go to speak but my alarm for my lunch break buzzes. "I've got to go for lunch. Wo...would you like to join me, Mr. Nygma?" He shakes his head as he looks around the room. "Rain check, but do you have a splendid lunch break, Matilda." I leave the room and go grab my lunch that my grandmother had prepared.

A chicken salad sandwich, with the crust cut off. Carrot sticks, grapes and a pink lemonade to wash it all down. I say a prayer and dig in. As the others all come in for their breaks, I hear a few of them whisper about me.

"Isn't she?"

"Poor girl..."

"I heard she stabbed the killer with a pen and laughed about it..."

I push my glasses off of my nose and decide to go eat outside.

When my lunch was over, I was heading back inside, I heard a scream. I run towards it and discover it was Kristen. She wasn't screaming from fear, but from anger.

"What have you done? This room was organized perfectly!" She snapped. I peek around her and see Ed surrounded by files on the floor. "This way is much easier. See-"

"What have I ever done to you Nygma! What did I do, that compels you to come here with your endless jokes and suggestions. And those riddles! My God! Those riddles! Are you trying to get me to quit?" She asked. "No, no, no. I want you...to keep your job and to have it here, for working." She glares at him and he fidgets with his glasses. "Okay, I'm getting a sense that this was somehow inappropriate."

"You are so odd." When Kristen called him that, I could see the hurt in his eyes. "I'll just get out of your hair." He walks past us and I look back over at Kristen as she begins to clean up. I go and help her. "Matilda, you don't have to do this. This is all Ed's fault."

"B...but I want to help. Besides, I don't think, Ed was causing any harm. I...I...I think what he was tr...trying to do was sweet."

"Sweet or not, he shouldn't touch other people's things."

Right before our shift was over, I had seen a cupcake with a live bullet in it. I giggle at that and Kristen just sighs. "He is too strange even for me. I'm going to give him a piece of my mind." She snatches the cupcake up and marches out of the room.

I grab my journal and write down my workday. As I write another word, I turn the corner and bump into Ed. My glasses fell off my nose, but he catches them and places them back where they belong. "Sorry-"

He shakes his head. "No, it was my fault. I should be looking where I'm going." He looked sad as he was about to walk away from me. "T...that cupcake was nice." I call out to him. "Than-"

"I...it was a very clever riddle. The cupcake is sweet, the bullet is deadly. Which symbolizes a beautiful woman being a dangerous thing." He smiles wide at my understanding. "It's quite funny, though Kristen didn't think so."

"I did. An-"

"Tilly..."

"An-"

"Tilly, darling. Why don't you invite Eddie over for some milk and cookies, since grandmother isn't home. He looks like he knows his way around a cookie. And he can give you the mil-"

"I'm sorry, Ed but I need to go." I walk away from him abruptly, seeing the confused look on his face before I go.

As I rush home in the car, I look into the mirror and see my reflection is the color grey. "No, no, no, not now. Not now..."

I turn on red and almost floor it into the garage.

"Stop it! Stop having those thoughts! Mr. Nygma is a nice guy."

"Nice guy? He's crazy like you. And you know what they say about crazy men..."

I run to the bathroom and grab my medication. As I go to shake out my pills, I look at my reflection smirking at me.

"Someone forgot a refill..."

I panic and run up to my room for my emergency stash.

"Where is it? Where is it?"

"Looking for these?"

I look at my reflection in my vanity and she had my pills tossing them in the trash. "No!" She laughs at me and I feel my eyes going blurry, even with the glasses on.

So I take them off and toss them on the vanity.

"Wh...what a...a...are you doing?"

I smile now that I'm on the other side of the mirror. "Oh, Tilly. You should know those pills are only temporary. They won't keep me out of your head for long. Now let's see what can we do this evening? Maybe scout out some boys?"

My reflection looks terrified and I've only just started.

"Oh! I know, we can paint the town red. How 'bout it Tilly, old gal?"

"S...s...stop!"

She shrieks. I let my hair down and take off my sweater. "Hmm, lets slip into something a bit more...comfortable..."

EDWARD...

I was in the bathroom washing my hands, feeling nervous.

"I say we get Matilda alone in the supply closet and explore what's under those polka dot skirts of hers."

My reflection says with a smirk. "Shut up." I hiss. Just then Jim Gordon walks in and I try to ignore my reflection, but he keeps taunting me about Matilda.

"Ed?" I turn hearing Jim calling me. "You okay?" He asks. I give him a reassuring smile. "Never better." An announcement goes off which I ignore, since it has nothing to do with me.

"Well see ya' around." Jim leaves the room and I'm alone with my demon.

"Relax, he's gone. Anyways, I say go for her. Lord knows you're not getting anywhere with Kristen."

"Don't you dare open your filthy mouth about either of them. You make me nervous talking when people could be close. Stop doing that!" I snap. "What?"

"That! Coping me!" I point out.

"Dude, it's a mirror, that's how they work."

He's right but I don't have to like it. I turn on the faucet and wash my hands again.

"You know what I think we need? I think that we need a little more fun. Romance..." He says with a smile. "Stop, I know where this is going. Matilda is a nice young wo-"

"Imagine her in our arms. Those big green eyes, looking up at us. Those soft perky lips-"

"Be quiet!" I grab my glasses and leave him behind as he laughs...
