Mira had a happy first few years of her life, growing up in a lower-class household on the edge of Asgard, just her and her parents. That is, until her mother, a Valkyrie, was sent into battle against Hella when Mira was only 5. Her mother never returned from the war, leaving her frequently ill husband to raise a young daughter alone. Mira sadly forgot her memories of her mother as the years went by, and she accepted the simple truth: Her mother was dead, her father was all she had left, and she must try her hardest to learn to care for both herself and him when he was sick (which was very often). Her father frequently caught sore throats, chest sores, and terrible headaches from the mines he worked in. Mira quickly learned how to nurse her father when he was sick, becoming self-sufficient and independent by 10 years old. She apprenticed at a nearby metalsmith shop, soon learning how to craft weapons, jewelry, armor, silverware, and crowns and other accessories for the royal family. She even helped her master forge Prince Loki's staff at age 14. The apprenticeship helped Mira gain access to medicine and food for her ill father, usually neglecting to feed herself in favor of healing him instead. Another tragedy struck only weeks after her 17th birthday, her father's mining cable was so frayed that when he went to work that day, it caused the harness to slip enough so the rope snapped, sending him tumbling down the mineshaft to his death. Other workers watched in fear and horror as the man's body cracked against the stone below, and soon after the incident, the mines were closed for a few years while there were safety measures made and better equipment was given to the miners. Left on her own now, Mira focused her grief as energy toward her metalsmith work, and after only a year more, was promoted to run her master's business when he retired. For years to come, Mira's daily routine became eat, work, sleep, repeat, sometimes forgetting to eat for a few days before her rumbling stomach demanded food. The on her 22nd birthday, she went to a tavern and met a handsome man called York Tibbison. He was charming and kind and Mira fell hard for him, her first love. They courted for almost 2 years, and Mira felt like the holes in her heart left by her parents' deaths was slowly being filled. But, alas, it turned out York had been seeing many other women during their relationship, not staying faithful to Mira. She found out the day before their 2 year anniversary from York's mother, who pitied the poor girl's blind loyalty to her cheating son. Mira was crushed, finally letting herself believe something that had been lingering in the back of her mind for years: She was unlovable by any man, she would never find someone who loved her truly, and she was too broken inside for any love to shine through. Mira, understandably angry, confronted York that evening. He completely freaked, threatening her and even slapping her across the face. Mira was scared and kept quiet, staying unwillingly in the now-abusive relationship for another 3 years before finding the courage to go to the king himself and ask for help. She snuck out of the house one night and traveled by foot to the royal palace and was brought to see Queen Frigga herself by a sympathetic guard. The queen was horrified by the stories of the physical and emotional abuse Mira had been through. The girl herself was scared Her Majesty wouldn't help, and trembled and looked at the floor the whole time she spoke. Queen Frigga surprised her by immediately sending a group of guards to arrest York, then gave the poor girl a room to stay in for the night and a mug of hot tea. Although rarely so emotional, Mira cried that night and thanked the queen over and over. When she curled up in the bed given to her for the night, she cried herself to sleep in relief the painful ordeal was soon over.
