Lucy POV

It has been a few weeks since 5 Seconds of Summer was officially created, but I have not heard anything about a practice.  I decide to ask them today as I enter the caf.  I have long since given up on trying to find someone else to sit with but I realize that I didn't really try to find another person.  The boys feel almost like my friends. Well, if they are your friends, they would tell you about their practice. But you are not really their friend. You are just a girl they let sit with them because they feel sorry for the "new girl".  Soon as second semester comes, they will ditch you the sad voice in my head came through my thoughts. They don't have to tell you everything. You have to ask to let them know you want to know the more optimistic voice fought back.

"Miss?" the lunch cashier interrupted my internal conversation while waiting for me to turn over my payment for my sandwich.

"Sorry" I mumble as I hand him my wad of cash and hurry off towards the boys.

As I approach their table, I decide to ask them right off.

"Sooooo... How's 5SOS comin' along?" I try to ask casually as I sit down.

"5SOS?" Ashton asks as he looks up from his plate.

"Um.. yeah.  It would be a cool way to abbreviate your name. 5SOS is a lot easier to say than 5 S-O-S." I reply.

Luke looks up with a heartwarming smile, "Yeah, that sounds fine."

I force myself to look back at Ashton as he nods and returns to his food with a pleased look on his face. At least he and Luke seem to like the name. I look around the table to see the rest of their reactions.  I giggle as I watch Michael concentrating on absorbing his pizza and I begin to wonder why it seems so quiet.  Then I look at Calum.  He is quietly hunched over his food just moving it around and staring at it, without eating it, and I realize that is why the mood seems so dull.  He is usually the one smiling and joking around, bringing life to their table.  However, today it seems as if he and Luke from a few weeks ago switched places.

"Calum?" I ask.

I look over to Ashton and Luke to see if they know what is going on and they solemnly shake their heads.  They don't have a clue.

"Calum? What's wrong?" I ask again.

He sadly looks up and sighs as his eyes return to his plate.

I looks over to see Michael angrily glaring at Calum and I nervously look over at Luke who is nervously looking at Michael.

"Mikey? What is-"

Michael cuts him off, "I'm sick and tired if this Cal. What the hell is wrong with you?!?!  You have not spoken once all day so far to anybody."

Then tension increases as Calum looks up, "You want to know what the hell is going on?!?! Well its midterms and I got the worst possible partner for my project which is going to last the rest of the fucking semester!"

"Well that is no reason to treat us like shit!" Michael shoots back.

"I haven't done anything like-"

Ashton's face drains of its color as he cuts Calum off, "Oh man, you got Cami."

Michael opens is mouth to say something but then Ashton's statement settles in. "You got Cami? As in that Cami?" he asks.

"Yeah." Calum sighs as he puts his head in his hands.

"That sucks." Luke states as he tries to comfort him.

At this point the tension is gone but now I am utterly confused.

"Who is Cami?" I ask.

"You do NOT want to know" they all reply in unison.

"Oh."

The table falls into silence and now I'm not so sure if this is a good time to ask about their practice, but I decide to ask anyways.  It has been bugging me way too long.

"Well, this may or may not be the best time to ask this, but have you guys like rehearsed as a band at all?"

They all turn and look at me.

"I'm mean... it is ok of you guys haven't, but I'd like to hear you guys sometime. You - you don't have to invite me if you don't want t- to but... hey, it might even cheer y'all up." I finish off with a smile.  Their intense stares are making me nervous.

Ashton is the first one to respond, "Um... yeah. That's a good idea. We should - we are going to hangout this Saturday, so I guess you can come of you want."

We all look at Calum as he nods.

"I guess so." he says sadly.

Luke turns to look at me and smiles as if trying to say thanks for trying.  I smile back, trying to push that feeling in my gut away.

The lunch bell rings, just as I finish up my sandwich.  I look over and see that Calum did not eat any of his lunch still.

"Calum... you gotta-"

He cuts me off, "I know." He looks at me as he dumps all his food in the trash and I can see all the sadness, worry, and fear in his eyes.

Before I begin to walk to English with Luke, I make a funny face at him, trying to make him smile.  I know I'm weird, but I thought that it might help.  Calum's eyes light up for a bit, but as he turns away, they go dull again.  I smile to myself, glad to be able to make him happier for just a moment.  I guess this Cami girl is someone to worry about.

As I join Luke and head off to English I realize that I have no way of knowing when and were they are practicing on Saturday.  I already plan on going for I have literally nothing to do.

"Hey, um Luke?  When are you guys practicing on Saturday?" I turn my head to look up at him as we walk, only to be met with his amazing blue eyes.

He smiles again, "I don't know. Do you want to come? You don't have to."

Now it is my turn to smile, "Of course, I'd love to.  I guess just let me know when you find out."

He chuckles as we walk a few minutes early into our almost empty classroom and I'm immediately captured by it. I don't think I've ever heard him chuckle before.

"Well, we probably won't figure that out until Saturday. Here." he says as he stops at his desk and reaches into his pocket to pull out his phone.

I look at it, unsure as to why he was giving me his phone.  I look up at him questioningly as he tries to  hand his phone to me again with a smile on his face.  He looks as if he is trying not to laugh. Then click! I finally understand.  Embarrassed as I am, I take his phone, punch in my number and create a contact.

"Let me know." I force myself to look up at him and smile in an effort to save myself from this awkward moment.  After I hand him back his phone, he punches his number into mine.

A look for his contact, while deleting some others, as I walk to my desk. I have too many, and most of them are for people I don't really even know. I smile again when I find his name: Luke O>

"Is that an ice cream?" I whisper to him just before the bell rings.

He turns to me again, almost laughing by this point, "No, it's a penguin."

"Oh." I say more to myself as I realize the almost obvious.

Soooo Cami is in the story now. Yay! for the first story crossover :)

Sorry I've been gone from this story for a bit - writers block and school is horrible - so sorry if this one kinda sucks.

I hope you all had great holidays and a Happy New Year! ❤️

Anyway...

What songs do you want them to sing at their first band practice?
