You smiled politely, moving the food on your plate around with your fork, the tension in the room too heavy to be able to actually eat anything. The two men at the table, sat at a standoff, neither of them eating or breaking eye contact determined to crush the other with they disdain. Maybe inviting your boyfriend to have dinner with your father wasn't the best idea. At some point they had to meet, and you doubted things would fair too well if it was at the altar so today was as good a time as any.

"I do not approve," your father said turning to you.

You rolled your eyes. You knew he wouldn't approve. He never approved. No one was ever good enough for Tony Stark's daughter, but even before they met you knew your father would have reservations when it came to your current boyfriend, more than he did with most guys you saw.

"Of course, you don't Stark," Stephen huffed.

You shot him a glare. You did love Stephen dearly, but you knew he would cause arguments with your father and not make this an easy endeavour.

"Well Strange, why would I condone my daughter to date someone old enough to be her father and is a crazy imbecile," your father spat.

"Dad," you groaned, annoyed by his perspective.

Yes, Stephen was older than you, but he made you happy and it certainly helped that it annoyed your father after years of his hellish embarrassment throughout your childhood.

"I forbid you to date him," he stated.

"Luckily you don't get a say in who I date dad," you frowned. "Of course, I want the two of you to get along or to at least be civil but just because you don't like Stephen it doesn't mean I'm going to leave him."

"Don't be stubborn Y/N," he said. "I do not like him."

"I'm not a huge fan of you either," Stephen retorted.

You let out a sigh. Both of them were insufferable but they meant the world to you so one way or another they would have to put up with each other and at least not kill each other. You rose from the table slamming your hands down.

"I love you both, but if you don't get along, I will become an unrelenting force. I am going to leave you to talk. Don't kill or hurt each other and just get along. For me," you huffed heading out of the room, leaving them to have to try and tolerate each other.
