Chapter four
Separation
Delilah's POV:
The next morning was something of a panic. We needed to find somewhere else safe. My uncle had heard that there was a ferry that was going to take people to safety. We somehow had the jump on everyone else. Our journey started after some breakfast. There was a heavy weight on everyone's shoulders. I wouldn't be coming back to my home. The house I was raised in. Eric seemed to take note of that as I stood in front of my house, looking up at it. The water from the fountain trickled softly. "It'll be ok." Eric said. I looked up at him and said "you think so?" He nodded and said "we got this, yeah?" I half smiled and Eric did the same. Uncle Harrison led the way out of the front yard. Niko followed, Alice behind him and then Dakota. It was always Eric and I in the back. Eric looked so solemn and I honestly kept wondering if we should keep fighting. It'd only been a little while but I had to keep going. For Dakota. I knew it would take a toll on me and it was a high possibility that we wouldn't make it. But we still had to try. Dakota walked alongside me as we slowly made our way to where the ferry was supposed to be. But unfortunately to our dismay, our journey was cut short. My eyes widened as we had stumbled onto a group of aliens. My uncle was trying to figure out a way around them. We couldn't possibly try to sneak past them without them figuring it out.

I'll distract them

Eric handed me the notepad and I shook my head furiously. Niko and my uncle took it, reading the three words. Niko nodded and Uncle Harrison wrote a response back.

Good luck

Eric nodded curtly and I continued to shake my head. Tears filled my eyes and I threw my arms around Eric. A muffled sob came from my lips and Eric hugged me back. I quickly wrote on the notepad, shaking it at Eric.

We can find a way. Please don't do this. I can't lose you

Eric put his hand on my shoulder and gave me a look that said 'I'll be right back.' I let the tears fall freely and Eric slowly slinked away from us. Glass shattering and thuds entered the air. The group rushed over to the sound and my uncle told us to run. We started to run away from the area we were just in, going to hide and wait until the noise stopped. Luckily a helicopter flew over us. My eyes widened and the screeching of the aliens seemed to get farther away. I took off my bag and headed back towards where we had left Eric. I walked as carefully as I could, not making a sound. I saw the destroyed shop and a car that had been smashed to nothing. I couldn't call out for him. I quickly realized that. I walked into the shop, looking for any traces of him. I didn't even want to think that he could've been killed. I saw dried blood but nothing fresh. I went to go down the street and someone grabbed my arm. I turned around to see my uncle. He held the notepad in my face.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING??

I gestured to the street and the store, giving him a serious look. I grabbed the notepad and wrote down what I needed to say.

I'm looking for Eric. I'm not leaving without him

I pointed to the street and motioned for my uncle to follow me. He shook his head and mouthed "we're going back." I shook my head frantically and mouthed "please. Can we just look? I have to find him." My uncle shook his head. "We're going back." I glared at my uncle and walked away from him. Tears blurred my vision and I grabbed my bag and wouldn't look at him. Dakota approached me and handed me a notepad.

Where's Eric?

I cried softly and shook my head. I gave her a shrug and Alice rubbed my back. Our group started to move again. I didn't want to leave this area. Eric was still alive. I knew he was. I should've went with him. I knew I should've. It's not fair. An announcement was made from the helicopters. The south side ferry would be evacuating people. It was a rescue. All I could hope for at this point was that Eric would go there. I silently prayed he would.

Eric's POV:
After distracting the aliens, I waited a while. I wanted to make sure they were gone. And I was scared. I was absolutely fucking terrified. My heart beat out of my chest and my breathing was erratic. I closed my eyes and tried to calm my breaths. The helicopter had to draw them away. They had to have. I slowly stood up, walking out of the alley I'd ducked into. I gulped and looked around, trying to see where Delilah and the rest had gone. But they were nowhere to be found. I shook my head as I realized they left. "No. No." I whispered. I covered my mouth as I held in the sob that almost left my lips. I didn't know what to do. I was alone. I didn't want to be. How would I survive this? I couldn't do it alone. I needed to be back with Delilah. She'd been keeping me...calm. I looked over my shoulder at people shuffling around. They were heading towards the south side. The docks. The ferry. I noticed an alleyway in the direction the group ran. I made my way over to it, trying to catch up with them. Hopefully. I saw a piece of paper, picking it up.

Eric, please find us. My uncle made us leave. Please know I'd never leave you. I believe we're headed to the ferry. Please, come back to us

I folded the note and put it in my pocket. I slowly started to make my way down the alley. People were everywhere. It had been hours since I'd gotten separated from the group. I was regretting being the decoy. Nobody else volunteered so I figured I had to. The longer I was separated from them, the more I was scared. I didn't know what to do. And that was when I stumbled upon the subway filled with water.

1k??? What did I do to deserve 1k so early?? I know most of these are fillers and there isn't much movie events yet but they'll be happening soon! I gotta make a story and fill in the gaps with certain things. So much was cut from the theatrical release and I just hope that an extended version of the movie will come out later this year! I'm so tempted to dm Michael Sarnoski and ask him😂😂
